Background The reproductive division of labor of eusocial insects, whereby one or several queens monopolize reproduction, evolved in a context of high genetic relatedness. However, many extant eusocial species have developed strategies that decrease genetic relatedness in their colonies, suggesting some benefits of the increased diversity. Multiple studies support this hypothesis by showing positive correlations between genetic diversity and colony fitness, as well as finding effects of experimental manipulations of diversity on colony performance. Il saggio “L’ex convento carcere di San Vito di Agrigento. Studi sulle trasformazioni e proposte per la sua conservazione” indaga l’antico convento dei frati Minori di Agrigento, trasformato nel sec. XIX in carcere di Agrigento. Il convento, costruito fuori le mura della città, era costituito dalla chiesa, dal chiostro e dal convento con le celle e gli spazi comuni dei frati. La nuova destinazione a carcere, con i lavori effettuati tra la metà del sec. XIX, primi e metà del sec. XX, ha in parte distrutto e occultato il convento medievale. Analysis of bacterial communities of infected primary teeth in a Mexican population

Background The objective of this study was to describe the bacterial communities associated with pediatric patients with endodontic infections of temporal teeth by targeting the 16S rRNA gene using pyrosequencing. Material and Methods Microbiological samples were obtained from the lower primary molars of thirteen 13 pediatric patients with dental infections. An aspiration method for microbiological sampling was used. The identification of microbiota employing the pyrosequencing method by targeting the 16S gene was performed.
