Screening for Hypochondriasis With the Illness Attitude Scales

2010

The Illness Attitude Scales (IAS; Kellner, 1986, 1987) may prove highly useful for the screening of hypochondriasis. We expected the IAS subscales to be equally as effective as the 7-item short version of the Whiteley Index (Whiteley-7; Fink et al., 1999), which has previously been shown to be useful in screening for somatoform disorders. We investigated participants of a German population (n = 1,575) and 61 patients with the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (4th ed. [DSM-IV]; American Psychiatric Association, 1994) diagnosis of hypochondriasis. The Bodily Preoccupations (BP) subscale showed high sensitivity (.92) and specificity (.90) as well as demonstrating convergen…

The Role of Dysfunctional Cognitions in Patients With Chronic Tinnitus

2015

OBJECTIVES The present study investigates the role of dysfunctional cognitions in patients with chronic tinnitus. To explore different dimensions of tinnitus-related thoughts, a 22-item self-report measure, the "Tinnitus Cognitions Scale" (T-Cog), is presented. Furthermore, dysfunctional cognitions are examined as a possible mediator of the relation between tinnitus distress and depression. DESIGN The present study analyzes the cross-sectional data of 373 patients with chronic tinnitus. Parallel analysis and principal axis factoring are used to identify the factor structure of the T-Cog. Assumed mediating effects are tested using the asymptotic and resampling procedure. RESULTS Factor analy…

Confirmatory factor analysis and psychometric properties of the Yale–Brown–Cornell Eating Disorders Scale Self-Report version (SR-YBC-EDS) in Spanish…

2015

[EN] Objective: The aimof the study was to adapt and validate the Yale Brown Cornell Eating Disorder Scale (YBC-EDS) transformed into a self-report format in Spanish clinical and non-clinical samples. Method: Eighty-three eating disordered patients and 358 non-clinical participants completed the Self Report-YBCEDS version (SR-YBC-EDS), the Eating Attitudes Test (EAT), and the Penn State Worry Questionnaire (PSWQ). Results: Confirmatory factor analyses of a two-factor second-order model showed adequate values of goodness-of fit indices for non-clinical (normed ÷2=13.4578; df=18; NFI=0.980; GFI=1.00; RMSEA= 0.00) and clinical samples (normed ÷2 = 26.5913; df =18; NFI = 0.944; GFI = 0.981; RMS…

Cross-cultural adaptation of the orthognathic quality of life questionnaire (OQLQ) in a Brazilian sample of patients with dentofacial deformities

2010

Objectives: The aim of this study is to translate into Portuguese-Brazilian language and adapt cross-culturally to the Brazilian population the Orthognathic Quality of Life Questionnaire (OQLQ). Study Design: The cross-cultural adaptation process followed six stages which are; (I) initial translation, (II) synthesis of the translation, (III) back translation, (IV) expert committee and (V) test of the prefinal version. For validation process, the OQLQ results were compared with Oral Health Impact Profile Questionnaire (OHIP-49), with the generic SF-36 Quality of Life Questionnaire and a visual analogue scale. A convenience sample of 25 patients was selected in two Southern Brazilian states o…

Validity and Test-Retest Reliability of the TIVRE-Basket Test for the Determination of Aerobic Power in Elite Male Basketball Players

2016

The aims of this study were to (a) determine the relationship between performance on the court-based TIVRE-Basket test and peak aerobic power determined from a criterion laboratory-based incremental treadmill test and (b) to examine the test-retest reliability of the TIVRE-Basket test in elite male basketball players. To address aim 1, 36 elite male basketball players (age: 25.2 ± 4.7 years, weight: 94.1 ± 11.4 kg, height: 195.83 ± 9.6 cm) completed a graded treadmill exercise test and the TIVRE-Basket within 72 hours. The mean distance recorded during the TIVRE-Basket test was 4001.8 ± 176.4 m, and mean VO2 peak was 54.7 ± 2.8 ml · kg(-1) · min(-1), and the correlation between the 2 parame…

Clinical usefulness of the screen for cognitive impairment in psychiatry (SCIP-S) scale in patients with type I bipolar disorder

2009

Abstract Background The relevance of persistent cognitive deficits to the pathogenesis and prognosis of bipolar disorders (BD) is understudied, and its translation into clinical practice has been limited by the absence of brief methods assessing cognitive status in Psychiatry. This investigation assessed the psychometric properties of the Spanish version of the Screen for Cognitive Impairment in Psychiatry (SCIP-S) for the detection of cognitive impairment in BD. Methods After short training, psychiatrists at 40 outpatient clinics administered the SCIP three times over two weeks to a total of 76 consecutive type I BD admissions. Experienced psychologists also administered a comprehensive ba…

Screening for generalized anxiety disorder in Spanish primary care centers with the GAD-7.

2017

The aim of the study was to determine the criterion validity of a computerized version of the General Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) questionnaire to detect general anxiety disorder in Spanish primary care centers. A total of 178 patients completed the GAD-7 and were administered the Composite International Diagnostic Interview (CIDI) for DSM-IV Axis I Disorders, which was used as a reference standard. Sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values, and positive and negative likelihood ratios were calculated. A cut-off of 10 yielded a sensitivity of .87, a specificity of .78, a positive predictive value of .93, a negative predictive value of .64, a positive likelihood ratio o…

2010

Objectives: To develop and to evaluate a questionnaire of self-perception and self-care habits on oral health on a first level population. Methods: A descriptive observational studas perfored to validate a questionnaire on oral health self-perception (UISESS-B). After non-probabilistic sampling,94 users,30-59 years of age, with either diabetes mellitus 2,hypertension or obesity were included. Duration of disease was lesser than 10 years. Pearson's r, Cornbach's ?, factorial analysis,chi-square and Snedecor's F tests were employed. Results:A Pearson's r of 0.7and Cronbach's ? of 0.82was observed on the pre-post values of the global questionnaire. In the factorial analysis, the variance explai…

Spanish Version of the Knowledge and Attitudes Survey Regarding Pain.

2019

A variety of valid tools are available to assess staff knowledge and attitudes regarding pain, among which is the Knowledge and Attitudes Survey Regarding Pain. Although this instrument has been widely and successfully used, a valid and adapted Spanish version is yet to be developed. The purpose of this study was to validate the Spanish version of the Knowledge and Attitudes Survey Regarding Pain. After translating and back-translating this tool, we conducted a cross-cultural adaptation and construct validation with 102 participants, including nursing professionals (in palliative care, oncology, and intensive care) from five health centers and final-year nursing students. All participants w…

Validity and reliability of the Migraine-Treatment Optimization Questionnaire.

2009

Our aim was to establish the validity and reliability of a patient-rated Migraine Treatment Optimization Questionnaire (M-TOQ in primary care. Patients who met International Classification of Headache Disorders, 2nd edn criteria for migraine completed a 19-item questionnaire containing candidate items for the M-TOQ and three questionnaires designed to test convergent/construct validity [Migraine Disability Assessment Scale (MIDAS), Headache Impact Test (HIT)-6 and Migraine-Specific Quality of Life Scale (MSSQoL)]. A 15-item (M-TOQ15) and a five-item (M-TOQ-5) questionnaire were derived. Two hundred and fifty-three adult patients were recruited. Five treatment optimization domains were iden…
