Visceral Adiposity Index: An Indicator of Adipose Tissue Dysfunction
2013
The Visceral Adiposity Index (VAI) has recently proven to be an indicator of adipose distribution and function that indirectly expresses cardiometabolic risk. In addition, VAI has been proposed as a useful tool for early detection of a condition of cardiometabolic risk before it develops into an overt metabolic syndrome. The application of the VAI in particular populations of patients (women with polycystic ovary syndrome, patients with acromegaly, patients with NAFLD/NASH, patients with HCV hepatitis, patients with type 2 diabetes, and general population) has produced interesting results, which have led to the hypothesis that the VAI could be considered a marker of adipose tissue dysfuncti…
Hsp60 in embryonic and adult submandibular salivary gland: quantitative distribution patterns in normal tissue and comparison with benign and maligna…
2019
Introduction: Heat Shock Protein 60 (Hsp60) is a member of the chaperoning system that assists protein folding inside mitochondria and plays other roles beyond these organelles. It is implicated in the carcinogenic processes in various types of cancer. In human salivary glands, Hsp60 has not yet been measured or mapped in detail and its role in gland development and functioning is virtually unknown. Consequently, its potential as biomarker for gland diseases, including malignancies cannot be assessed. The S-100 protein, a known marker for schwannomas, has been found also in myoepithelial-cell carcinomas of the salivary glands. Here, we present our initial findings on the anatomic-histologic…
Exposition continue aux xéno-hormones à faibles doses chez le rat : effets multi-générationnels de mélanges sur les préférences gustatives, le compor…
2012
During the last decade, the issue of health-related endocrine disruptors (ED) has been extended to the toxicity of mixtures. The objective of this study was to define the effects of lifelong exposure to ED mixtures, at low doses defined as "non-harmful" by the authorities. In this aim, the effects of mixtures combining genistein, vinclozolin and bisphenol A, have been investigated in the rat by using an integrative and multi-generational experimental approach which takes into account maternal behavior, feeding behavior and development. Our results show that these mixtures could: a) reduce maternal behavior, b) change taste preferences (sweet, salty), c) affect the development from the in ut…
317 Role of integrins in the metastatic spread of high-grade serous ovarian cancer
2021
Introduction/Background* In high-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) an early intraperitoneal metastatic spread is common which determines the therapeutical approach and prognosis. Integrins may be involved in metastatic spread of HGSOC. In this study, integrin expression was examined in primary tumour and metastases of HGSOC. Methodology The expression of integrin α2, α4, α5, α6, and β1 was assessed by immunostaining in tumour samples of the ovary, omentum, and peritoneum of each patient. Differences in integrin expression among tumour localisations and their association with clinicopathological parameters were examined by Fisher’s exact test. The impact of integrin expression on progressi…
Réseaux et stratégies pour la diffusion du cinéma roumain en France de 1950 à 1954
2015
International audience; Since communists came to power in Romania, cinema became an important propagandatool. The government invested largely, in addition to the production field, in the development ofdistribution and exploitation of movies. Whereas the rural area represented the major target, theforeign exportation was the last domain that concern the government. Nevertheless, in the bipolarcontext of cold war, the new Romanian cinema policy promoted by the communists created theconditions for a larger participation, through cinema, at the ideological fight between East and West. This article analyses the resources, the strategies, the networks and the policies ofRomanian political and cult…

Statistical analysis of pulse propagation driven by polarization-mode dispersion
2002
International audience; The linear propagation of pulses driven by random polarization-mode dispersion is considered. Analytical expressions are derived for the probability-density functions of the pulse width, timing displacement, and degree of polarization. The study is performed in Stokes space, and frequency correlation between modes is shown to play an important role in it.
Consequences of a high sugar/high fat maternal diet on protein expression in young rat salivary glands
2015
Introduction: Early nutrition through maternal diet during pregnancy and breastfeeding was shown to have an impact on obesity in childhood. Experiments on animal models have also indicated alterations regarding taste preferences. In addition, salivary physiology has a documented role in taste preferences and food intake in rodents. The objective of this study was therefore to study the impact of maternal diet on salivary glands’ protein profiles of the offspring.Materials and methods: Female rats received during gestation and lactation either a control (C) or a high fat / high sugar diet (WD for “Western Diet”). 18 offspring rats (9C/9WD) were sacrificed at 25 days of age, i.e. shortly afte…
Xenohormones and oral homeostasis : impact on taste preferences and salivary glands
2012
Oral homeostasis strongly influences taste perceptions. It depends on a healthy oral epithelium and salivary gland secretions, which are both regulated by sex hormones. The aim of this thesis was to identify the effect of an oral exposure to Bisphenol A, a food packaging and dental sealer component, and of a soy-diet containing phytoestrogens on oral homeostasisTwo experiments were conducted in adult rats: a dose-response study of BPA (5μg 12.5 mg / kj / day), and a study about the impact of a soy-diet on the BPA disrupting effects. By using gustation choice tests, and histological and qPCR-TR molecular approach, we identify for the first time an action of BPA on dry mouth. We found that BP…
