Between Private and Public : Corporate art collecting and collaboration with art museums in Finland
2021
In this chapter, I discuss corporate art collections as part of national cultural heritage and semi-public collections. Corporate art is seen through the lenses of collecting, various professions and corporate social responsibility (CSR). I highlight the motives and the meanings of visual art in the context of business and practices of collection development, with the similarities and differences to museums and the museum profession. The essence of corporate art collecting is connected with business objectives, and thus this field of collecting differs in many ways from the objectives of museum collections and ethics. The main motives for corporate art collecting are aesthetics, well-being,…

Does Luxury Indicate Sustainability? An Analysis of the Maldives
2011
The environment of small tourism islands, as climate and coastal resources, make them favourable locations for luxury resorts. However, tourism can cause a threat to these islands’ local environment. Thus, the Maldives government has developed regulations to ensure a balance between resource protection and use. This study examines, from the conceptual framework of sustainable tourism, whether luxury indicates sustainability in the Maldives, that is, if there is a link between luxury and sustainability. To perform this analysis we have studied 91 deluxe and non-deluxe resorts in the Maldives using content analysis methodology. Then we have applied a Principal Components Analysis to determine…
Social marketing : doing well by doing good? a look into organizations? marketing communication campaigns on social issues in Finland
2010
This study examined social marketing and related dimensions by looking at case campaigns of three Finnish organizations of the public, business and civic sector. Marketing on these sectors is about behavioral influence, but has diverse characteristics. The aims of the research were to clarify the multidimensional field of marketing applied to social issues, to find out the different dimensions, and to examine in which dimensions the case campaigns fit. Social marketing and related disciplines were studied as variants of marketing. A societal perspective and roles of mass media in creating social change were emphasized. The study could benefit the organizational communications and marketing …
The link between corporate environmental performance and corporate financial performance
2017
The question of whether companies can do good by doing good has aroused a lot of interest among academics and company managers. The link between corporate social or environmental performance (CSP/CEP) and corporate financial performance (CFP) has been studied a lot – and with several different methods, in both directions and in different industries. Majority of earlier studies have found a positive link between CSP/CEP and CFP but due to challenges in measuring social and environmental performance, there is a lot of inconsistency in the study results. However, earlier studies clearly indicate that companies are not punished for their social and environmental efforts. The aim of this study w…

Arvot ja yhteiskuntavastuullinen toiminta suurissa suomalaisissa perheyrityksissä : omistajan näkökulma
2007
This study focuses on values and corporate social performance (CSP) in the context of large Finnish family firms. My starting point for the study is the notion that values play a key role in CSP, especially in the family business context. The main research question is: How are the values of active family business owners reflected in their family firms’ corporate social performance? To be able to answer this question, firstly we have to find answers to the following questions: Which values do the active family business owners have and what kind of CSP is there in their family business firms? The theoretical framework is built on agency and stewardship theory (institutional level), stakeholde…
