A New Technique for Vibration-Based Diagnostics of Fatigued Structures Based on Damage Pattern Recognition via Minimization of Misclassification Prob…
2017
Vibration-based diagnostics provide various methods to detect, locate, and characterize damage in structural and mechanical systems by examining changes in measured vibration response. Research in vibration-based damage recognition has been rapidly expanding over the last few years. The basic idea behind this technology is that modal parameters (notably frequencies, mode shapes, and modal damping) are functions of the physical properties of the structure (mass, damping, and stiffness). Therefore, changes in the physical properties will cause detectable changes in the modal properties. In investigations, many techniques were applied to recognize damage in structural and mechanical systems, b…
A Real-time Linux based controller for micro-vibration generating with voice coil actuator
2014
The micro-vibrations generated by mechanical systems onboard spacecraft can affect the performance of instruments with high pointing accuracy and stability. This paper provides a micro-vibration generating control system based on Real Time Application Interface (RTAI), a real time Linux extension, for ground tests purposes. The vibration generating control algorithm is filtered-X adaptive inverse control method. A voice coil actuator is used in the vibration generating experiments. The experiments show that the system can generate different frequency precision sine vibration whose error is less than 2 mg which is in environmental and electrical noise level.
Cutting Vibrations
2008
Chapter 8 provides comprehensive engineering knowledge regarding cutting vibrations, their typical sources in machining operations, and methods of their elimination to prevent negative influence on the surface finish (chatter marks). The classification of cutting vibrations including free, forced, and self-excited vibrations is discussed, and all possible sources and mechanisms of all types of cutting vibrations are specified and characterized. The regeneration of surface waviness, which is the predominant mechanism of chatter, is outlined for turning and milling operations. The stability of machining operations based on the stability lobe diagrams is highlighted and their practical applica…
Neural network-based models for a vibration suppression system equipped with MR brake
2012
This paper is devoted to the modeling and simulation of a full-scale commercially available magnetorheological (MR) brake installed in a semi-active suspension (SAS) system. The analysis of the Bouc-Wen and Dahl mathematical models of MR damper is presented. Influence of their parameters on the response is explored. Subsequently, by using the neural networks, the parameters characterizing each model are estimated. This makes it possible to perform the comparative analysis of the suggested damper models responses with the measured experimental results. The novelty of the presented methodology is the application of artificial intelligence methods to estimate model parameters of a MR brake uti…
Survey of the Working Condition of Used Tractors in Northern Italy
1995
The working condition of 96 used tractors of different ages and sizes was examined in Northern Italy and compared with those of new machines and the standards at present in force. The results show that from the safety point of view, performance levels do not worsen drastically with increase in vehicle age. Rusty roll-over protective structures with cracks and tears are the main danger. Controls which are difficult to operate, seats in very bad condition, high levels of noise and vibrations render the situation critical from the ergonomic point of view.
Fast Axial Scanning in 3D Imaging
2016
We establish the conditions for obtaining fast axial 3D microscopy with constant magnification, invariant resolution, and symmetrical displacement range. We demonstrate that liquid lenses permit the axial scanning free of mechanical movements and vibrations. This allows speeding-up the process and avoiding distortionsin the image of dynamic specimens. Article not available.
Non-Homogeneous Tension Profile
2013
In this chapter, we will look at the influence of a skewed tension profile on the divergence instability of a travelling, thin elastic plate. The travelling plate is subjected to axial tension at the supports, but the tension distribution along the supports is not uniform. For the nonuniformity, we will use a linear distribution. First, we will perform a dynamic analysis of small time-harmonic vibrations, after which we will concentrate on the divergence instability problem. We will see that a small inhomogeneity in the applied tension may have a large effect on the divergence modes, and that inhomogeneity in the tension profile may significantly decrease the critical velocity of the plate.
Vibrations and oscillations of tri-soliton molecules in a mode-locked fiber laser
2018
We present numerical simulations highlighting internal oscillations and vibrations within tri-soliton molecules generated by a mode-locked fiber laser. We highlight major qualitative differences as compared to two-soliton molecules.
On the 2485 keV γ-ray line in208Pb
1995
The 2485 keV γ-ray line, which in a GSI experiment originally was suggested to decay from the 6+ state of the double octupole vibration in 208Pb, was in a later experiment in Berlin proposed to belong to 207Pb, populated in one-neutron transfer. It has been searched for in the present experiment using Coulomb excitation.
