Travelling Strings, Beams, Panels, Membranes and Plates

2013

In this chapter, we will introduce in a general manner some of the most common models for axially travelling materials, which will be used in the rest of the book. We will introduce the linear models of travelling strings, panels, and plates. It will be assumed that the material is thin, i.e. its planar dimensions are much larger than its thickness. We will work in the small displacement regime, that is, with linear models approximating the behaviour of the system near the trivial equilibrium. As is well known in the theory of elasticity, this approximation allows for a decoupling of the in-plane and out-of-plane components in the dynamics of the system. We will concentrate on small out-of-…

Feedback vibration control of a base-isolated building with delayed measurements using h<inf>∞</inf> techniques

2010

In this paper we address the problem of vibration reduction of buildings with delayed measurements, where the delays are time-varying and bounded. We focus on a convex optimization approach to the problem of state-feedback H ∞ control design. An appropriate Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional and some free weighting matrices are used to establish some delay-range-dependent sufficient conditions for the design of desired controllers in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). The controller, which guarantees asymptotic stability and an H ∞ performance, simultaneously, for the closed-loop system of the structure, is then developed. The performance of the controller is evaluated through the simu…

Analytic UHF-CCSD(T) second derivatives: implementation and application to the calculation of the vibration-rotation interaction constants of NCO and…

1998

An implementation of analytic open-shell UHF-CCSD(T) second derivatives is presented. To demonstrate applicability and test the accuracy of the UHF-CCSD(T) approach for the determination of spectroscopical parameters, vibration-rotation interaction constants were calculated for the ground (12Π) and first electronically excited (12Σ) states of the NCO and NCS radicals. In addition, harmonic vibrational frequencies for both states, the Renner-Teller parameter for the ground state, as well as the 12Π→12Σ excitation energy are reported. While the computed values are in good agreement with reliable experimental information for NCO, most of the data presented for NCS are predictions of quantities…

Asymptotic observer of the link states of flexible joint robots with motor-side sensing

2015

This paper proposes an approach for observing the link states, i.e. angular position and velocity, of the robotic joints with elasticities, when only the motor-side sensing is available. By separating the state-dependent nonlinearities of the rigid manipulator dynamics a linear sub-model of the elastic joint robot is obtained in an observable state-space form. The standard asymptotic Luenberger state observer is then designed for the given motor position signal which is measured by encoder and rectified from the nonlinear contribution. The configurable poles of observer allow shaping the estimated states dynamics to be fast enough in relation to the actual resonant joint behavior. Therefore…

Observation and Processing of Instantaneous Frequency Variations During Bearing Tests

2020

Laboratory experiments have been performed on medium sized roller bearings with two levels of artificial damage. Recordings of long time series from accelerometers at a wide range of different radial loads and rotation speeds has been performed. Probably due to non-perfect performance of the control systems for the rotational speed or frequency, significant fluctuations were observed at all rotation speeds. The highest relative variation was observed at the lowest rotational speeds. These variations were recorded using a rotary encoder, which allows order tracking of the vibration signal. In real life condition monitoring, tachometers or rotary encoders are not always present, this can be d…

Detection of Incipient Bearing Fault in a Slowly Rotating Machine Using Spline Wavelet Packets

2018

This chapter describes a successful application of spline-based wavelet packet transforms (WPTs) described in Chap. 4 to a complicated problem of detection of incipient defects in rolling element bearings by the analysis of recorded vibration signals. The methodology presented in this chapter is applied to the analysis of vibration data recorded from large bearings working in real unfavorable operation conditions in presence of strong noise and vibrations from multiple internal and external sources. It relies on properties of discrete spline-based wavelet packets such as orthogonality, near-rectangular spectra, transient oscillating shapes of testing waveforms and fast implementation of tra…

Direct evaluation of the equivalent linear damping for TLCD systems in random vibration for pre-design purposes

2014

Abstract Passive control of structural vibrations has received in recent years a great attention from researchers concerned with vibration control. Several types of devices have been proposed in order to reduce the dynamic responses of different kinds of structural systems. Among them, the Tuned Liquid Column Damper (TLCD) proved to be very effective in reducing vibration of structures. Since the increasing use of TLCDs in practical realizations, this paper aims at developing an approximate formulation, by means of a statistical linearization technique, able to estimate the parameters of a structure equipped with a TLCD subjected to random loads for pre-design purposes. Moreover, it is show…

A coupled cluster study of the 1 1A1g and 1 1B2u states of benzene

1998

A theoretical investigation of the equilibrium structures and harmonic frequencies of the 1 1A1g and 1 1B2u states of benzene is presented. The performance of coupled cluster singles (CCS), the recently proposed CC2 model, and coupled cluster singles and doubles (CCSD) is compared. The CC2 ground and excited states frequencies are a significant improvement of the CCS results and are relatively close to the CCSD results. A comparative analysis of the vibrations in the two electronic states of both C6H6 and C6D6 is presented. The reliability of predicted shifts in harmonic frequencies between the two states and isotopic shifts is estimated on the basis of the convergence in the CCS, CC2, and …

Resonance phenomena in a nonlinear neuronal circuit

2015

International audience; We characterizes a nonlinear circuit driven by a bichromatic excitation, that is the sum of two sinusoidal waves with different frequencies f1 and f2 suchthat f2 > f1. Our experiments are confirmed by a numerical analysis of the systemresponse obtained by solving numerically the differential equations which rule thecircuit voltages. Especially, we highlight that the response of the system at the lowfrequency can be optimized by the amplitude of the high frequency. By revisiting thiswell known vibrational resonance effect in the whole amplitude frequency parametricplane, we show experimentally and numerically that a much better resonance can beachieved when the two fre…
