Numerical study of leptogenesis in a 5D split fermion model with bulk neutrinos

2010

We study numerically a 5D hybrid model which incorporates a split fermion scenario and bulk neutrinos. We perform a Monte Carlo analysis of the model in order to find the regions in the parameter space allowing for realization of the leptogenesis. We find that higher order Yukawa terms must be included in order the model to produce a CP violation and net baryon number sufficient for the creation of the observed baryon asymmetry of the Universe.

Medium effects for terrestrial and atmospheric neutrino oscillations

2001

Matter effects in neutrino propagation translate into effective parameters for the oscillation and fake CP- and CPT-odd quantities, even in a scenario, such as $\Delta_{12}=0$, where no genuine CP violation is present. This fact seems to impose severe restrictions on the determination of intrinsic parameters of the system from long-baseline experiments. We show, however, that the resonance in the effective mixing $\tilde{\theta}_{13}$ can be observed for a certain range of baselines. This provides a way to measure the vacuum mixing angle $\theta_{13}$ and the sign of $\Delta m_{23}^2$ from atmospheric neutrinos, using a detector with energy resolution and charge discrimination.

Neutrino mixing and CP-violation

2000

The prospects of measuring the leptonic angles and CP-odd phases at a neutrino factory are discussed in two scenarios: 1) three active neutrinos as indicated by the present ensemble of atmospheric plus solar data; 2) three active plus one sterile neutrino when the LSND signal is also taken into account. For the latter we develop one and two mass dominance approximations. The appearance of wrong sign muons in long baseline experiments and tau leptons in short baseline ones provides the best tests of CP-violation in scenarios 1) and 2), respectively.

ELECTROWEAK THEORY AND THE NEUTRINO-MASS AND NEUTRINO-OSCILLATION QUESTIONS

2007

It is shown that both conjectures of neutrino mass and neutrino oscillation can be made really well-grounded within the Standard Model provided that one adopts a recent new version of the electroweak scheme spontaneously giving also a fundamental explanation for the so-called "maximal parity-violation" effect. A crucial role is played by the prediction of two distinct, scalar and pseudoscalar, replicas of (electron, muon, and tau) lepton numbers that could fully account for an actual non-coincidence between neutrino mass-eigenstates and gauge-eigenstates.

Status of three-neutrino oscillations after the SNO-salt data

2003

We perform a global analysis of neutrino oscillation data in the framework of three neutrinos, including the recent improved measurement of the neutral current events at SNO. In addition to all current solar neutrino data we take into account the reactor neutrino data from KamLAND and CHOOZ, the atmospheric neutrino data from Super-Kamiokande and MACRO, as well as the first spectral data from the K2K long baseline accelerator experiment. The up-to-date best fit values and allowed ranges of the three-flavour oscillation parameters are determined from these data. Furthermore, we discuss in detail the status of the small parameters alpha = Delta_m^2_Sol / Delta_m^2_Atm and sin^2(theta_13), whi…

Towards a new measurement of the neutron electric dipole moment

2009

International audience; The effort towards a new measurement of the neutron electric dipole moment (nEDM) at the Paul Scherrer Institut's (PSI) new high intensity source of ultracold neutrons (UCN) is described. The experimental technique relies on Ramsey's method of separated oscillatory fields, using UCN in vacuum with the apparatus at ambient temperature. In the first phase, R&D towards the upgrade of the RAL/Sussex/ILL apparatus is being performed at the Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL). In the second phase the apparatus, moved from ILL to PSI, will allow an improvement in experimental sensitivity by a factor of 5. In the third phase, a new spectrometer should gain another order of magnitud…

Measurement of theCP-violating phaseβsJ/ψϕinBs0→J/ψϕdecays with the CDF II detector

2012

We present a measurement of the \CP-violating parameter \betas using approximately 6500 $$\BsJpsiPhi$$ decays reconstructed with the CDF\,II detector in a sample of $$p\bar p$$ collisions at $$\sqrt{s}=1.96$$ TeV corresponding to 5.2 fb$$^{-1}$$ integrated luminosity produced by the Tevatron Collider at Fermilab. We find the \CP-violating phase to be within the range $$\betas \in [0.02, 0.52] \cup [1.08, 1.55]$$ at 68% confidence level where the coverage property of the quoted interval is guaranteed using a frequentist statistical analysis. This result is in agreement with the standard model expectation at the level of about one Gaussian standard deviation. We consider the inclusion of a po…

Top quark decay in the Aligned two-Higgs-doublet Model

2015

AbstractWe compute the one loop right and left anomalous tensor couplings (gR and gL, respectively) for the top quark, in the aligned two-Higgs-doublet model. They are the magnetic-like couplings in the most general parameterization of the tbW vertex. We find that the aligned two-Higgs doublet model, that includes as particular cases some of the most studied extensions of the Higgs sector, as Type I and II 2HDM, introduces new electroweak contributions and provides theoretical predictions that are very sensitive to both new scalar masses and the neutral scalar mixing angle. The model can account for new CP violation effects via the introduction of complex alignment parameters that have impo…

A SIMULTANEOUS ANALYSIS FOR THE ΔI = 1/2 RULE, DIRECT CP VIOLATION, $K^0 -\bar K^0$ AND $B^0 -\bar B^0$ MIXINGS

1992

To have a consistent picture, a simultaneous analysis for the K → ππ isospin amplitudes A0 and A2, the ΔI = 1/2 rule, CP-violating ε′/ε, and [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] mixings within the standard model is made by employing the recent reanalyzed values of the parameters and relating the penguin matrix elements involved in the K → ππ decays to the known matrix elements of the ΔI = 1/2 operator (Q2 − Q1) and ΔI = 3/2 operator (Q2 + 2Q1). The allowed values for all the relevant quantities are calculated in detail. A general bound for top quark mass mt, CP phase δ and ε′/ε is found: for δ in the second quadrant, 84 GeV ≤ mt ≤ 250 GeV , δ ≤ 173° and 1 × 10−4 < ε′/ε ≤ 1 × 10−2…
