Measurement of Time-DependentCP-Violating Asymmetries inB0→ϕKS0,K+K−KS0, andη′KS0Decays

2004

We present an improved measurement of $CP$-violation parameters in ${B}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\phi}{K}_{S}^{0}$, ${K}^{+}{K}^{\ensuremath{-}}{K}_{S}^{0}$, and ${\ensuremath{\eta}}^{\ensuremath{'}}{K}_{S}^{0}$ decays based on a $140\text{ }{\mathrm{f}\mathrm{b}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ data sample collected at the $\ensuremath{\Upsilon}(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB energy-asymmetric ${e}^{+}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ collider. One neutral $B$ meson is fully reconstructed in one of the specified decay channels, and the flavor of the accompanying $B$ meson is identified from its decay products. $CP$-violation parameters for each of the three modes are obtained from…

Improved Measurement ofCPAsymmetries inB0→(cc¯)K0(*)Decays

2005

We present results on time-dependent $CP$ asymmetries in neutral $B$ decays to several $CP$ eigenstates. The measurements use a data sample of about 227 million $\Upsilon$(4S) $\rightarrow B\overline{B}$ decays collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy $B$ Factory at SLAC. The amplitude of the CP asymmetry, sin2$\Beta$ in the Standard Model, is derived from decay-time distributions from events in which one neutral $B$ meson is fully reconstructed in a final state containing a charmonium meson and the other $B$ meson is determined to be either a $B^0$ or $\overline{B}^0$ from its decay products. We measure sin2$\Beta$ = 0.722 $\pm$ 0.040 (stat.) $\pm$ 0.23 (syst.) in ag…

Measurement ofcos2βinB0→D(*)h0Decays with a Time-Dependent Dalitz Plot Analysis ofD→Ks0π+π−

2007

We study the time-dependent Dalitz plot of D-->K_{S};{0}pi;{+}pi;{-} in B;{0}-->D;{(*)}h;{0} decays, where h;{0} is a pi;{0}, eta, eta;{'}, or omega meson and D;{*}-->Dpi;{0}, using a data sample of 383x10;{6} Upsilon(4S)-->BB[over ] decays collected with the BABAR detector. We determine cos2beta=0.42+/-0.49+/-0.09+/-0.13, sin2beta=0.29+/-0.34+/-0.03+/-0.05, and |lambda|=1.01+/-0.08+/-0.02, where the first error is statistical, the second is the experimental systematic uncertainty, and the third, where given, is the Dalitz model uncertainty. Assuming the world average value for sin2beta and |lambda|=1, cos2beta>0 is preferred over cos2beta<0 at 86% confidence level.

Rare CP-violated η and η′ meson decays and neutron EDM.

2018

The data for the upper limit on the electric dipole moment of the neutron (nEDM) can be explained by using different mechanisms beyond the Standard Model (SM). The nEDM can be generated by a CP-violating transition of η and η′ mesons into pion pairs. We derive the upper limits for the rates of the CP-violating decays η(η′) → 2π are by orders of magnitude more stringent than those from existing experiments so far.

Measurement of directCPviolation parameters inB±→J/ψK±andB±→J/ψπ±decays with10.4  fb−1of Tevatron data

2013

We present a measurement of the direct CP-violating charge asymmetry in B-+/- mesons decaying to J/psi K-+/- and J/psi pi(+/-) where J/psi decays to mu(+)mu(-), using the full run II data set of 10.4 fb(-1) of proton-antiproton collisions collected using the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. A difference in the yield of B- and B+ mesons in these decays is found by fitting to the difference between their reconstructed invariant mass distributions resulting in asymmetries of A(J/psi K) = [0.59 +/- 0.37]%, which is the most precise measurement to date, and A(J/psi pi) = [-4.2 +/- 4.5]%. Both measurements are consistent with standard model predictions.

First Observation ofCPViolation inB¯0→DCP(*)h0Decays by a Combined Time-Dependent Analysis ofBABARand Belle Data

2015

We report a measurement of the time-dependent CP asymmetry of B0->D(*)CP h0 decays, where the light neutral hadron h0 is a pi0, eta or omega meson, and the neutral D meson is reconstructed in the CP eigenstates K+ K-, K0S pi0 or K0S omega. The measurement is performed combining the final data samples collected at the Y(4S) resonance by the BaBar and Belle experiments at the asymmetric-energy B factories PEP-II at SLAC and KEKB at KEK, respectively. The data samples contain ( 471 +/- 3 ) x 10^6 BB pairs recorded by the BaBar detector and ( 772 +/- 11 ) x 10^6, BB pairs recorded by the Belle detector. We measure the CP asymmetry parameters -eta_f S = +0.66 +/- 0.10 (stat.) +/- 0.06 (syst.) an…

Measurement of the Difference of Time-IntegratedCPAsymmetries inD0→K−K+andD0→π−π+Decays

2016

A search for CP violation in $D^0 \rightarrow K^{-} K^{+} $ and $D^0 \rightarrow \pi^{-} \pi^{+} $ decays is performed using $pp$ collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $3~fb^{-1}$, collected using the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and $8~$TeV. The flavour of the charm meson is inferred from the charge of the pion in $D^{*+}\rightarrow D^0\pi^+$ and $D^{*-}\rightarrow \bar{D^0}\pi^{-}$ decays. The difference between the CP asymmetries in $D^0 \rightarrow K^{-} K^{+} $ and $D^0 \rightarrow \pi^{-} \pi^{+} $ decays, $\Delta A_{CP} \equiv A_{CP}(K^{-} K^{+}) - A_{CP}(\pi^{-} \pi^{+})$, is measured to be $\left( -0.10 \pm 0.08(stat) \pm 0.03(syst) \right) \…

Colloquium: Time-reversal violation with quantum-entangled B mesons

2014

Symmetry transformations have been proven a bedrock tool for understanding the nature of particle interactions, formulating and testing fundamental theories. Based on the up to now unbroken CPT symmetry, the violation of the CP symmetry between matter and antimatter by weak interactions, discovered in the decay of kaons in 1964 and observed more recently in 2001 in B mesons, strongly suggests that the behavior of these particles under weak interactions must also be asymmetric under time reversal T. However, until the recent years there has not been a direct detection of the expected time-reversal violation in the time evolution of any system. This Colloquium examines the field of time-rever…

Measurement of the SemileptonicCPAsymmetry inB0-B¯0Mixing

2015

The semileptonic $CP$ asymmetry in $B^0-\overline{B}{}^0$ mixing, $a_{\rm sl}^d$, is measured in proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb$^{-1}$, recorded by the LHCb experiment. Semileptonic $B^0$ decays are reconstructed in the inclusive final states $D^-\mu^+$ and $D^{*-}\mu^+$, where the $D^-$ meson decays into the $K^+\pi^-\pi^-$ final state, and the $D^{*-}$ meson into the $\overline{D}{}^0(\rightarrow K^+\pi^-)\pi^-$ final state. The asymmetry between the numbers of $D^{(*)-}\mu^+$ and $D^{(*)+}\mu^-$ decays is measured as a function of the decay time of the $B^0$ mesons. The $CP$ asymmetry is measured to be $a_{\rm sl}^d = (-0.02 \pm 0.19 \pm…
