Concerted motions of the integrin-binding loop and the C-terminal tail of the non-RGD disintegrin obtustatin.
2003
Obtustatin is a potent and selective inhibitor of the alpha1beta1 integrin in vitro and of angiogenesis in vivo. It possesses an integrin recognition loop that harbors, in a lateral position, the inhibitory 21KTS23 motif. We report an analysis of the dynamics of the backbone and side-chain atoms of obtustatin by homonuclear NMR methods. Angular mobility has been calculated for 90 assigned cross-peaks from 22 off-resonance rotating frame nuclear Overhauser effect spectroscopy spectra recorded at three magnetic fields. Our results suggest that the integrin binding loop and the C-terminal tail display concerted motions, which can be interpreted by hinge effects. Among the integrin-binding moti…
NANC inhibitory neurotransmission in mouse isolated stomach: Involvement of nitric oxide, ATP and vasoactive intestinal polypeptide
2003
1. The neurotransmitters involved in NANC relaxation and their possible interactions were investigated in mouse isolated stomach, recording the motor responses as changes of endoluminal pressure from whole organ. 2. Field stimulation produced tetrodotoxin-sensitive, frequency-dependent, biphasic responses: rapid transient relaxation followed by a delayed inhibitory component. 3. The inhibitor of the synthesis of nitric oxide (NO), L-NAME, abolished the rapid relaxation and significantly reduced the slow relaxation. Apamin, blocker of Ca 2+-dependent K + channels, or ADPβS, which desensitises P 2y purinoceptors, reduced the slow relaxation to 2-8 Hz, without affecting that to 16-32 Hz or the…
Intraspecific Differences in Spectral Reflectance Curves as Indicators of Reduced Vitality in High-Arctic Plants
2017
Remote sensing is a suitable candidate for monitoring rapid changes in Polar regions, offering high-resolution spectral, spatial and radiometric data. This paper focuses on the spectral properties of dominant plant species acquired during the first week of August 2015. Twenty-eight plots were selected, which could easily be identified in the field as well as on RapidEye satellite imagery. Spectral measurements of individual species were acquired, and heavy metal contamination stress factors were measured contemporaneously. As a result, a unique spectral library of dominant plant species, heavy metal concentrations and damage ratios were achieved with an indication that species-specific chan…
Behavioral and Chemical Investigations of Contact Kairomones Released by the Mud Dauber Wasp Trypoxylon politum, a Host of the Parasitoid Melittobia …
2011
Contact kairomones from the host mud dauber wasp Trypoxylon politum Say (Hymenoptera: Crabronidae) that mediate behavioral responses of its ectoparasitoid Melittobia digitata Dahms (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae) were investigated. Chemical residues from host by-products, the cocoon, and the meconium, induced arrestment behavior of macropterous female parasitoids, while those from the host stage attacked, i.e., the prepupa, did not. Melittobia digitata response to polar and apolar extracts of host by-products indicated kairomone(s) solubility mainly in hexane. GC and GC/MS analysis of cocoon and meconium apolar extracts revealed a mixture of linear carboxylic acids from C(6) to C(18), and both ex…

Morphological adaptation in host races of Tephritis conura
2007
The present study investigates morphological differentiation among host races of the fruit fly Te phritis conura Loew (Diptera: Tephritidae) for two fitness-related traits and whether these traits are host induced or genetically determined. Flies were analyzed from independent sympatric regions, and from one syntopic site where parental host plants [ Cirsium heterophyllum (L.) Hill. and Cirsium oleraceum (L.) Scop. (Cardueae)] and hybrid plants ( C. heterophyllum × C. oleraceum ) co-occur. As both host races may oviposit on hybrid plants and hybrid plants provide an identical environment for larvae of both host races, flies emerging from C. heterophyllum × C. oleraceum hybrids were used to …
Progress in the characterization of insulin-like peptides in aphids: Immunohistochemical mapping of ILP4.
2021
Aphids were the first animals described as photoperiodic due to their seasonal switch from viviparous parthenogenesis to sexual reproduction (cyclical parthenogenesis) caused by the shortening of the photoperiod in autumn. This switch produces a single sexual generation of oviparous females and males that mate and lay diapausing cold-resistant eggs that can overcome the unfavourable environmental conditions typical of winter in temperate regions. Previous studies have hinted at a possible implication of two insulin-like peptides (ILP1 and ILP4) in the aphid seasonal response, changing their expression levels between different photoperiodic conditions. Moreover, in situ localization of their…
Separation by FPLC chromatofocusing of UDP-glucosyltransferases from three developmental stages of Drosophila melanogaster.
1997
Variation of UDP-glucosyltransferase activity, during Drosophila melanogaster development, was analyzed. The endogenous metabolite xanthurenic acid and the xenobiotic compounds 1-naphthol and 2-naphthol were used as substrates. Developmentally regulated differences were observed for the three substrates, suggesting the presence of UDP-glucosyltransferase isoenzymes. This was further confirmed by FPLC chromatofocusing on a Mono P column: seven peaks of UDP-glucosyltransferase activity (pHs: ≥6.3, 5.8, 5.5, 4.9, 4.5, 4.2, ≤4.0) with either single or overlapping substrate specificity were detected. A single xanthurenic acid:UDP-glucosyltransferase activity (pl 5.8) was found throughout develop…
Learning can be detrimental for a parasitic wasp
2021
Animals have evolved the capacity to learn, and the conventional view is that learning allows individuals to improve foraging decisions. The parasitoid Telenomus podisi has been shown to parasitize eggs of the exotic stink bug Halyomorpha halys at the same rate as eggs of its coevolved host, Podisus maculiventris, but the parasitoid cannot complete its development in the exotic species. We hypothesized that T. podisi learns to exploit cues from this non-coevolved species, thereby increasing unsuccessful parasitism rates. We conducted bioassays to compare the responses of naïve vs. experienced parasitoids on chemical footprints left by one of the two host species. Both naïve and experienced …
Toiminnanohjausjärjestelmä pilvessä vai yrityksen sisällä : ei-toiminnallisten ominaisuuksien vertailu
2018
