Texture Classification with Generalized Fourier Descriptors in Dimensionality Reduction Context: An Overview Exploration

In the context of texture classification, this article explores the capacity and the performance of some combinations of feature extraction, linear and nonlinear dimensionality reduction techniques and several kinds of classification methods. The performances are evaluated and compared in term of classification error. In order to test our texture classification protocol, the experiment carried out images from two different sources, the well known Brodatz database and our leaf texture images database.

Reduction of the number of spectral bands in Landsat images: a comparison of linear and nonlinear methods

We describe some applications of linear and nonlinear pro- jection methods in order to reduce the number of spectral bands in Land- sat multispectral images. The nonlinear method is curvilinear component analysis CCA, and we propose an adapted optimization of it for image processing, based on the use of principal-component analysis PCA, a linear method. The principle of CCA consists in reproducing the topol- ogy of the original space projection points in a reduced subspace, keep- ing the maximum of information. Objective This study investigates the effects of different positions of side-mounted rear-view cameras on distance estimation of drivers. Background Camera-monitor systems bring advantages as compared to conventional rear-view mirrors, such as improved aerodynamics and enlarged field-of-view. Calibration of a three-dimensional reconstruction system using a structured light source

We present a method for calibrating a range finder system composed of a camera and a structured light source. The system is used to reconstruct the three-dimensional (3-D) surface of an object. This is achieved by projecting a pattern, represented by a set of regularly spaced spots, on the surface of the object using the structured light source. An image of the illuminated object is next taken and by analyzing the distortion of the projected pattern, the 3-D surface of the object can be reconstructed. Maximizing reading: pattern analysis to describe points of gaze

As people read texts, their points of gaze can be described either as a sequence or as a pattern of dots. If reading fixations are visualized as a pattern and their duration is graphically attributed to the 3 rd dimension, image processing techniques can be employed to describe individual reading styles. Two reader groups of text editors and of University students were matching according to parametric tests. Yet they appeared to have marked inter-subject variability of fixation distribution when individual cases were considered.
