Kernel image similarity criterion

This paper presents a family of metrics for assessing image similarity. The methods use the Hilbert-Schmidt Independence Criterion (HSIC) to estimate nonlinear statistical dependence between multidimensional images. The proposed methods have very good theoretical and practical properties. We illustrate the performance in evaluating the quality of natural photographic images, hyperspectral images under different noise levels, in synthetic multiresolution problems, and real pansharpening products.

Accurate estimation of physical quantities depends on the availability of High Resolution (HR) observations of the Earth surface. However, due to the unavoidable tradeoff between spatial and time resolution, the acquisition instants of HR data hardly coincides with those required by the estimation algorithms. Este estudio propone una evaluación de la calidad periodística utilizando indicadores interculturales y códigos deontológicos. Para ello se observa la cobertura televisiva internacional, ofrecida por las televisiones públicas europeas BBC, TF 2 France, RAI 1 y TVE 1 en el período del 19 al 22 de octubre de 2013, de la historia conocida mediáticamente como “el ángel rubio”: la aparición de una niña en un campamento gitano en Grecia, en un presunto caso de tráfico de menores o de un secuestro. Se constata que la información se aleja de los estándares de calidad y contribuye a la estigmatización de los gitanos y a la etnificación del delito.

In the run-up to the elections to the European Parliament in 2014, EU citizens had the unprecedented opportunity to watch televised debates between the candidates running for president of the European Commission. The most important debate was the so-called "Eurovision debate", which was broadcasted in almost all EU member states. In this study we explore the responses of a sample of 110 young German voters, who watched this debate, to the candidates' messages and whether exposure to the debate caused a shift in the respondents' attitudes towards the EU. The estimation of the fundamental matrix from a set of corresponding points is a relevant topic in epipolar stereo geometry [10]. Due to the high amount of outliers between the matches, RANSAC-based approaches [7, 13, 29] have been used to obtain the fundamental matrix. In this paper two new contributes are presented: a new normalized epipolar error measure which takes into account the shape of the features used as matches [17] and a new strategy to compare fundamental matrices.
