Measuring the Spatial and Spectral Performance of WorldView-3
2015
The new WorldView-3 satellite provides a unique combination of very high spatial resolution and super-spectral capabilities. This presentation explores the practical and theoretical usefulness of this platform as compared against other hyperspectral and multispectral sensors.
Robustly correlated key‐medical image for DNA‐chaos based encryption
2021
Abstract Medical images include confidential and sensitive information about patients. Hence, ensuring the security of these images is a crucial requirement. This paper proposes an efficient and secure medical image encryption‐decryption scheme based on deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), one‐dimensional chaotic maps (tent and logistic maps), and hash functions (SHA‐256 and MD5). The first part of the proposed scheme is the key generation based on the hash functions of the image and its metadata. The key then is highly related and intensely sensitive to the original image. The second part is the rotation and permutation of the first two MSB bit‐plans of the medical image to reduce its black backgr…
D Sensor-Based Obstacle Detection Comparing Octrees and Point clouds Using CUDA
2012
This paper presents adaptable methods for achieving fast collision detection using the GPU and Nvidia CUDA together with Octrees. Earlier related work have focused on serial methods, while this paper presents a parallel solution which shows that there is a great increase in time if the number of operations is large. Two dierent models of the environment and the industrial robot are presented, the rst is Octrees at dierent resolutions, the second is a point cloud representation. The relative merits of the two dierent world model representations are shown. In particular, the experimental results show the potential of adapting the resolution of the robot and environment models to the task at h…
123D Catch: efficiency, accuracy, constraints and limitations in architectural heritage field
2013
Today, the accurate and detailed reconstruction of geometric models of real objects has become a common process. The diffusion of Image-based 3D modeling techniques, through image-based free, low cost and open source software, have increased drastically in the past few years, especially in the sector of Cultural Heritage (Architecture, Archeology, Urban planning). Nevertheless, web based software (ARC3D, 123D Catch, Hyp3D, my3Dscanner) offer another opportunity respect the desktop systems: they use the power of cloud computing to carry out a semi-automatic data processing. In this way is overcome the considerably slowing-down of the computer of hardware-heavy approaches. Our research inves…
Temporal Fairness Provisioning in Multi-Rate Contention-Based 802.11e WLANs
2005
The IEEE 802.11e extensions for QoS support in WLAN define the transmission opportunity (TXOP) concept, in order to limit the channel holding times of the contending stations in the presence of delay-sensitive traffic. We evaluate the use of TXOP for a different purpose: "temporal fairness" provisioning among stations employing different data rates. We show that the equalization of the channel access times allows each station to obtain its throughput basically (1) proportional to its transmission rate, and (2) independent of the transmitted frame length. This also improves the aggregate throughput of the overall WLAN. For a given TXOP limit, i.e., a granted channel access time, a station is…
Fast algorithm for detection of reference spheres in digital panoramic radiography.
2009
In this paper, an algorithm for detection of reference spheres from digital panoramic radiographic images is presented. The proposed algorithm was tested on a database of 107 digital panoramic radiographic images which were used for dental diagnostics. Results show that the proposed method exhibits for detection of reference spheres, a sensitivity of 97.33% and specificity of 93.85%. Performance time differed between 0.55 and 2.36s depending on image size. The aim of this work was to provide a fast ellipse detection algorithm to reduce measuring time on preoperative implant planning by lowering the computational cost.
Energy Efficient Optimization for Solar-Powered UAV Communications System
2021
In this work, we explore the energy efficiency optimization for a solar-powered unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) communications system. We consider a scenario where a number of ground users (GUs) connect with a solar-powered multi-antenna UAV over a wireless link. First, we are able to derive the relations between the uplink data rate and heading angle of UAV and transmission power of GUs. In addition, the harvested energy from solar light is also affected by UAV’s angle. Accordingly, with the objective to maximize the energy efficiency that is related to uplink data rate and energy consumption, we propose to dynamically adjust the UAV trajectory and gesture, by optimizing its velocity, accele…
Reconstruction Improvement in Integral Fourier Holography by Micro-Scanning Method
2015
Although integral holography has many promising advantages in the field of 3D imaging, the resolution of reconstructed holographic image is still limited by the insufficient information captured. To improve the reconstruction quality, an integral Fourier holographic imaging method based on micro-scanning of the micro-lens array is proposed in this paper. The micro-scanning of the micro-lens array can increase the sampling rate in spatial frequency domain and the information of the generated Fourier hologram, which will eventually eliminate the overlapping effect in the reconstructed 3D image. Experiments for different micro-scanning modes are carried out to verify the feasibility of the pro…
Polarization-based Robot Orientation and Navigation
2015
From insects in your garden to creatures in the sea, inspiration can be drawn from nature to design a whole new class of smart robotic devices. These smart machines may move like living creatures. They can be launched toward a specific target for a pre-defined task. Bio-inspiration is developing to meet the needs of many challenges particularly in machine vision. Some species in the animal kingdom like cephalopods, crustaceans and insects are distinguished with their visual capabilities which are strongly improved by means of polarization. This work surveys the most recent research in the area of bio-inspired polarization based robot orientation and navigation. Firstly, the authors will bri…
Methods for Modeling Ecosystem Services: A Review
2015
Abstract Modeling ecosystem services (ES) is an essential tool for the development of strategies that will ensure their future supply, provision and quantification. Given the rapid development in this area of research, a review of the different approaches used to model ES was performed, using an analytical framework based on five criteria for comparing the existing methodological approaches: the types of ES, availability of data sources, spatial scale, types of models used and the possible outcomes of the models. Regulating services were the most commonly modeled, followed by provisioning, cultural, and supporting services. The most frequently used data for modeling were secondary data (alr…
