Isolation, culture and plant regeneration from mesophyll protoplasts of Digitalis obscura
1987
High yields of protoplasts were obtained from mesophyll tissue of Digitalis obscura L. Osmotic potential of the isolation medium and Ca2+ were important in obtaining a high viability of the preparations. In different culture techniques employed, liquid-over-agar-solidified medium was superior to liquid medium alone. Agar plating technique was ineffective. On Murashige and Skoog modified medium with casein hydrolysate and several indoleacetic acid and benzyladenine combinations, isolated protoplasts underwent sustained mitotic division and produced calli. The calli formed shoots when transferred to regeneration media. Regenerated shoots could be easily rooted and developed into whole plants …

Fast Photomosaic
2005
Photomosaic is a technique which transforms an input image into a rectangular grid of thumbnail images preserving the overall appearance. The typical photomosaic algorithm searches from a large database of images one picture that approximates a block of pixels in the main image. Since the quality of the output depends on the size of the database, it turns out that the bottleneck in each photomosaic algorithm is the searching process. In this paper we present a technique to speed-up this critical phase using the Antipole Tree Data Structure. This improvement allows the use of larger databases without requiring much longer processing time.
An interactional ‘live eye tracking’ study in autism spectrum disorder : combining qualitative and quantitative approaches in the study of gaze
2017
Recent studies on gaze behaviours in individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) have utilised “live eye tracking.” Such research has focused on generating quantitative eye tracking measurements, which provide limited (if any) qualitative contextual details of the actual interactions in which gaze occurs. This article presents a novel methodological approach that combines live eye tracking with qualitative interaction analysis, multimodally informed conversation analysis. Drawing on eye tracking and wide-angle video recordings, this combination renders visible some of the functions, or what gaze “does,” in interactional situations. The participants include three children with ASD and th…
A Performance Evaluation of Fusion Techniques for Spatio-Temporal Saliency Detection in Dynamic Scenes
2013
International audience; Visual saliency is an important research topic in computer vision applications, which helps to focus on regions of interest instead of processing the whole image. Detecting visual saliency in still images has been widely addressed in literature. However, visual saliency detection in videos is more complicated due to additional temporal information. A spatio-temporal saliency map is usually obtained by the fusion of a static saliency map and a dynamic saliency map. The way both maps are fused plays a critical role in the accuracy of the spatio-temporal saliency map. In this paper, we evaluate the performances of different fusion techniques on a large and diverse datas…
Esplorazioni sul futuro prossimo del mondo reale
2020
New visions of the near future capable of questioning the dominant thought and its narration have emerged through different scenarios of utopias and apocalyptic visions that allow us to glimpse the real after the present. In the last decades, in particular, from the imagery of these scenarios emerges the need to address the effects of the impact of anthropic activity on climate change and the growth of the global population for the survival of society, highlighting these issues among the greatest challenges. criticality that humanity is facing. Utopia and dystopia are the main approaches to the material and immaterial narrative of present and future society. If utopia does not maintain link…
Modified total variation regularization using fuzzy complement for image denoising
2015
In this paper, we propose a denoising algorithm based on the Total Variation (TV) model. Specifically, we associate to the regularization term of the Rodin-Osher-Fatimi (ROF) functional a small weight whenever denoising is performed in edge and texture regions, which means less regularization and more details preservation. On the other hand, a large weight is associated if the region being filtered is smooth which means noise will be well suppressed. The weight computation is inspired from the fuzzy edge complement. Experiments on well-known images and comparison with state of the art denoising algorithms demonstrate that the proposed method not only presents good denoising performance but …
The three wives problem and Shapley value
2015
We examine the Talmudic three wives problem, which is a generalization of the Talmudic contested garment problem solved by Aumann and Maschler (1985) using coalitional procedure. This problem has many practical applications. In an attempt to unify all Talmudic methods, Guiasu (2010, 2011) asserts that it can be explained in terms of “run-to-the-bank”, that is, of Shapley value in a “cumulative game”. It can be challenged because the coalitional procedure yields the same result as the nucleolus, which corresponds to a “dual game”. As Guiasu's solution is paradoxical (it has all the appearances of truth), my contribution consists in explaining the concepts, particularly truncation, that play …
