Psychological factors and defective colour vision

In this study, involving students between 14 and 16 years old, the psychological dimensions of cognition and personality affected by red-green colour vision deficiencies were investigated. From the results of a factorial analysis it appears that the influence of colour vision abnormality on the psychological factors that we tested is always minor. Colour vision defect is correlated with such cognitive variables as spatial aptitude and visual difference perception, and with such personality variables as praxemia and submission. There is more to accommodation of the eye than simply minimizing retinal blur

Eyes of children and young adults change their optical power to focus nearby objects at the retina. But does accommodation function by trial and error to minimize blur and maximize contrast as is generally accepted? Three experiments in monocular and monochromatic vision were performed under two conditions while aberrations were being corrected. In the first condition, feedback was available to the eye from both optical vergence and optical blur. In the second, feedback was only available from target blur. Accommodation was less precise for the second condition, suggesting that it is more than a trial-and-error function. Optical vergence itself seems to be an important cue for accommodation.

Light-dependent CK2-mediated phosphorylation of centrins regulates complex formation with visual G-protein.

AbstractCentrins are Ca2+-binding EF-hand proteins. All four known centrin isoforms are expressed in the ciliary apparatus of photoreceptor cells. Cen1p and Cen2p bind to the visual G-protein transducin in a strictly Ca2+-dependent way, which is thought to regulate light driven movements of transducin between photoreceptor cell compartments. Abstract Purpose To compare the incidence and severity of photic phenomena after the implantation of the Array® (Allergan) refractive multifocal intraocular lens (MIOL) and a monofocal IOL. Setting Multicenter study at Kiel, Mainz, Karlsruhe, and Bremerhaven, Germany. Methods The study comprised 231 randomly selected patients from 4 study centers. Classification of SD-OCT Volumes with LBP: Application to DME Detection

International audience; This paper addresses the problem of automatic classification of Spectral Domain OCT (SD-OCT) data for automatic identification of patients with Diabetic Macular Edema (DME) versus normal subjects. Our method is based on Local Binary Patterns (LBP) features to describe the texture of Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) images and we compare different LBP features extraction approaches to compute a single signature for the whole OCT volume.
