Poor vision accompanied with other sensory impairments as a predictor of falls in older women

Objectives:we studied visual acuity (VA) and co-existing hearing impairment and poor standing balance as predictors of falls. Design: prospective study with 1-year follow-up. Setting: research laboratory and residential environment. Participants: 428 women aged 63‐76 years from the Finnish Twin Study on Aging. Measurements: participants were followed up for incidence of falls over 1 year. VA, hearing ability and standing balance were assessed at the baseline. Homodimeric murine interleukin-3 agonists indicate that ligand dimerization is important for high-affinity receptor complex formation.

Homodimeric murine interleukin 3 (mIL-3) agonists were generated by intermolecular cystine-bonding. Steady-state binding assays and association kinetics performed at 4 degrees C using these agonists revealed specific binding to both the high- and low-affinity receptor. DSS-mediated crosslinking studies performed at 4 degrees C with agonist concentrations compatible with high-affinity receptor complex formation allowed to detect protein complexes of the alpha chain, the beta chain(s) and the high-affinity receptor complex migrating with apparent molecular weights of 90 kDa, 140 kDa, and above 180 kDa, respectively. Let F be a field of characteristic 0, G a finite abelian group and A a G-graded algebra. We prove that A generates a variety of G-graded algebras of almost polynomial growth if and only if A has the same graded identities as one of the following algebras: (1) FCp, the group algebra of a cyclic group of order p, where p is a prime number and p||G|; (2) UT2G(F), the algebra of 2×2 upper triangular matrices over F endowed with an elementary G-grading; (3) E, the infinite dimensional Grassmann algebra with trivial G-grading; (4) in case 2||G|, EZ2, the Grassmann algebra with canonical Z2-grading.

Proving convexity preserving properties of interpolatory subdivision schemes through reconstruction operators

We introduce a new approach towards proving convexity preserving properties for interpolatory subdivision schemes. Our approach is based on the relation between subdivision schemes and prediction operators within Harten's framework for multiresolution, and hinges on certain convexity properties of the reconstruction operator associated to prediction. Our results allow us to recover certain known results [10,8,1,7]. In addition, we are able to determine the necessary conditions for convexity preservation of the family of subdivision schemes based on the Hermite interpolation considered in [4].

A normal Banach quasi -algebra (X;A_0) has a distinguished Banach - algebra X_b consisting of bounded elements of X. The latter -algebra is shown to coincide with the set of elements of X having fi nite spectral radius. If the family P(X) of bounded invariant positive sesquilinear forms on X contains suffi ciently many elements then the Banach -algebra of bounded elements can be characterized via a C -seminorm defi ned by the elements of P(X).

The new results on lattice deformation of current algebra

The topic “Quantum Integrable Models” was reviewed in the literature and presented to the conferences and schools many times. Only the reports of our own have been done on quite a few occasions (see, e.g., [1], [2]). So here we shall try to present a fresh approach to the description of the ingredients of construction of integrable models. It has gradually evolved in the process of our joint work. Whereas our goal was the Sugawara construction for the lattice affine algebra (known now as the St.Petersburg algebra), (see, e.g., [1]), some technical developments happen to be new and useful for the already developed subjects. Here we shall underline this development.
