Assessment of Oxygen Expansion during Internal Bleaching with Enamel and Dentin: A Comparative In Vitro Study.

Internal bleaching is a conservative, non-invasive, and simple treatment that is frequently performed in daily clinical practice. The present in vitro study analyzes the oxygen expansion of different bleaching agents resulting from the oxidation reaction when interacting with enamel and dentin. Enamel and dentin were crushed separately until obtaining a fine powder with particles of an approximate size between 0.06 and 0.2 mm. Differential expression of collagen types I, III, and IV by fat-storing (Ito) cells in vitro

It has been observed that Ito cells in vitro undergo phenotypical changes ("activation") similar to those noted in vivo during the development of liver fibrosis. Because conflicting data have been published on the amount and different types of collagens synthesized by Ito cells in vitro, collagen biosynthesis was studied at different "activation" stages on both the protein and RNA levels. Immunoprecipitation of endogenously labeled collagen showed that freshly isolated ("resting") Ito cells synthesize mainly collagen type IV. Recruitment of HIF-1α and HIF-2α to common target genes is differentially regulated in neuroblastoma: HIF-2α promotes an aggressive phenotype

In neuroblastoma specimens, HIF-2alpha but not HIF-1alpha is strongly expressed in well-vascularized areas. In vitro, HIF-2alpha protein was stabilized at 5% O2 (resembling end capillary oxygen conditions) and, in contrast to the low HIF-1alpha activity at this oxygen level, actively transcribed genes like VEGF. Under hypoxia (1% O2), HIF-1alpha was transiently stabilized and primarily mediated acute responses, whereas HIF-2alpha protein gradually accumulated and governed prolonged hypoxic gene activation. In a search for retinoic acid (RA) receptor ligands endowed with potent apoptotic activity, a series of novel arotinoids were prepared. Because the stereochemistry of the C9-alkenyl portion of natural 9-cis-RA and the olefinic moiety of the previously synthesized isoxazole retinoid 4 seems to have particular importance for their apoptotic activity, novel retinoid analogues with a restricted or, vice versa, a larger flexibility in this region were designed and prepared. The new compounds were evaluated in vitro for their ability to activate natural retinoid receptors and for their differentiation-inducing activity. Abstract Protection against Leishmania major in resistant C57BL/6 mice is mediated by Th1 cells, whereas susceptibility in BALB/c mice is the result of Th2 development. IL-12 release by L. major-infected dendritic cells (DC) is critically involved in differentiation of Th1 cells. Previously, we reported that strain differences in the production of DC-derived factors, e.g., IL-1αβ, are in part responsible for disparate disease outcome. Infection with the gastric bacterial pathogen Helicobacter pylori is typically contracted in early childhood and often persists for decades.
