Effects of drying temperatures on physico-chemical properties of dried and rehydrated chestnuts (Castanea sativa)

2004

This work evaluated the effects of two drying temperatures (40 and 60 degreesC) on some physical and chemical properties of chestnuts, both dried and after their rehydration using steam at 100 degreesC. The morphological characteristics of fresh starch granules were characterized by a round or oval shape, with diameter length ranging from 3.0. to 15.0 mum. After drying and rehydration, the granules appeared more shapeless and the surfaces were quite rough. The changes also caused more of the open pore volume fraction in samples dried at 60 degreesC, than in those dried at 40 degreesC and, much more, than the fresh samples. Also, calorimetric behaviour, starch and simple sugar changes after …

Refractive Indices and Deviations in Refractive Indices of Trifluoromethanesulfonate-Based Ionic Liquids in Water

2011

Refractive indices were determined for four different ionic liquid + water binary systems, from (288.15 to 338.15) K, and covering the entire composition range. The four ionic liquids used were 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium trifluoromethanesulfonate, 3-butyl-1-ethylimidazolium trifluoromethanesulfonate, 3-butyl-1-methylimidazolium trifluoromethanesulfonate, and 1-butyl-1-methylpyrrolidinium trifluoromethanesulfonate, all of them being completely miscible in water. From the experimental data, deviations in refractive indices, defined on a volume fraction basis, have been calculated and fitted to an extended version of the Redlich–Kister equation. The behavior of the deviations in refractive in…

Energetic analysis of succinic acid in water droplets: insight into the size-dependent solubility of atmospheric nanoparticles

2021

<p>Size-dependent solubility is prevalent in atmospheric nanoparticles, but a molecular level understanding is still insufficient, especially for organic compounds. Here, we performed molecular dynamics simulations to investigate the size dependence of succinic acid solvation on the scale of ~1-4 nm with the potential of mean forces method. Our analyses reveal that the surface preference of succinic acid is stronger for a droplet than the slab of the same size, and the surface propensity is enhanced due to the curvature effect as the droplet becomes smaller. Energetic analyses show that such surface preference is primarily an enthalpic effect in both systems, while the entropi…

Die Beschleunigung der Polymerisation durch Hydroperoxyd und Aminsalz

1964

The polymerisation rate of styrene and methylmethacrylate initiated by tetraline hydroperoxide is accelerated by di-n-butylamine hydrochloride. In the range of low concentrations up to 5 · 10−4 mole/l. of each, hydroperoxide and amine salt, the rate of polymerisation is proportional to the square roote of …

Ozone absorption in aqueous phenol solutions

1977

Abstract The rate of ozone absorption in aqueous solutions of phenol was measured in a wetted-wall laboratory absorber. The liquid and gas flow rates were fixed as well as the pH and temperature. The phenol concentration was varied in the range 2–300 ppm and the ozone partial pressure over an eight fold range. The gas phase resistance to mass transfer was determined by absorbing SO2 from an SO2N2 mixture in KOH aqueous solutions. The results have been interpreted by means of a simple kinetic assumption.

New developments in immunochemical water analysis down to 30 mul sample volume.

1999

Abstract The determination of trace levels of pesticides like atrazine in water samples of small, restricted volumes is one of the future demands of environmental analysis. In a brief review existing chromatographic and immunochemical methods for atrazine are critically discussed. Then a simple rapid enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) using the tip of an inoculation needle as a solid surface is presented. The sample volume could be reduced to 30 μl. The assay had a centre of the test IC50 of 0.12 μg l−1 and permitted the characterisation of atrazine at levels of 0.022–2.90 μg l−1. A first outlook for automatisation is given. The new method was compared with an ELISA using 96 well mic…

Density, Speed of Sound, Viscosity, and Excess Properties of Binary Mixtures Formed by Ethanol and Bis(trifluorosulfonyl)imide-Based Ionic Liquids

2015

In this work, viscosities, densities, and speeds of sound of three binary mixtures containing the ionic liquids 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide, [emim][NTf2], 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide, [bmim][NTf2], and 1-hexyl-3-methylimidazo-lium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide, [hmim][NTf2], mixed with ethanol were measured at atmospheric pressure in the range of (278.15 to 338.15) K, covering the entire range of compositions. From these experimental data, the excess isentropic compressibility and molar isentropic compressibility of pure components and mixtures have been calculated. Additionally, excess properties, such as viscosity dev…

Effect of 99mTc elution in vivo from red cells on red cell volumes measured using autologous 99mTc-labeled red cells: comparison with 51Cr method

2020

The purpose of this work was to compare the measured red-cell volume (RCV) using sodium pertechnetate [RCV-99mTc] compared to the reference technique using sodium radiochromate [RCV-51Cr] and to assess the influence of technetium-99 elution on the RCV-99mTc value. Ten patients had simultaneous measurements of RCV-99mTc and RCV-51Cr. Elution of Tc-99m from red blood cells was 2.9% and led to an average overestimation of RCV-99mTc of 3.7%. The introduction of individual tracer elution rates in the RCV-99mTc calculation corrects this overestimation.

The partial specific volume of m.m′-ditolyl in toluene was determined by means of density measurement over the entire range of concentrations at 25°C. The molar excess volume computed hereof turns out t…
