Peri-Operative Liver Regeneration of the Remnant Liver Volume after Right Hepatectomy for Living Donation: A Multiple Regression Analysis

Early liver regeneration was studied in a series of 70 patients who underwent right hepatectomy for living donation from November 2004 to January 2010. Liver regeneration was evaluated by multidetector computed tomography at a mean time of 61.07 days after surgery. Pre-surgical variables such as age, weight, height, body mass index, liver function tests, creatinine, platelet count, international normalized ratio, glucose, and variables detected with preoperative multidetector computed tomography imaging, including diameter of main portal vein, steatosis, original liver volume and spleen volume, were investigated as potential predictors of liver regeneration. According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), in 2000 an estimated amount of at least 160 million people became ill as a result of occupational-related hazards or injuries. Use of physicochemical processing in treating urban waste waters

The principal objective of the present study was to compare two clearly defined purification processes in two stages: the periods 1985–1987 (conventional) and 1988–1990 (physico‐chemical). In general, the mean concentrations obtained were lower in the second period. A z‐test for comparing means was applied, but no significant correlation was observed (p ≤ 0.05). The mean concentrations obtained (with some exceptions) are lower in the second period. With the passing of time, the total volume of sewage flow has increased, and hence the load of contaminants has become diluted. The use of physico‐chemical treatment prior to biological processing may be the cause of the increase in cost.
On measuring speculative and hedging activities in futures markets from volume and open interest data

This paper provides a critical assessment of the line of research that measures speculative and hedging activities in futures markets from volume and open interest data. It makes several contributions. First, a detailed theoretical analysis of the measures proposed in the previous literature as proxies for speculative activity clarifies the circumstances in which they fail, as well as the assumptions that have to be made, when they are used as intended. Second, we propose a new way of combining the volume and the open interest figures, which provides additional information regarding the type of trading activity that takes place in the market on a given date. A World Full of Mergers: The Nordic Countries in a Global Context

In this introductory chapter to the volume, the editors present the findings from a literature review undertaken on the topic, and link classical organizational perspectives to the study of merger processes involving higher education institutions. The chapter provides a brief overview of developments across Nordic higher education by referring to Burton Clark’s famous ‘triangle of coordination’. The authors conclude by sketching out the rationale and aim of the comparative study, the ways in which the volume is organized and by providing a short summary of its individual contributions.

Estimating the two-particle $K$-matrix for multiple partial waves and decay channels from finite-volume energies

An implementation of estimating the two-to-two $K$-matrix from finite-volume energies based on the L\"uscher formalism and involving a Hermitian matrix known as the "box matrix" is described. The method includes higher partial waves and multiple decay channels. Two fitting procedures for estimating the $K$-matrix parameters, which properly incorporate all statistical covariances, are discussed. Formulas and software for handling total spins up to $S=2$ and orbital angular momenta up to $L=6$ are obtained for total momenta in several directions. In a recent empirical study by Glabadanidis ("Market Timing With Moving Averages" (2015), International Review of Finance, Volume 15, Number 13, Pages 387-425; the paper is also available on the SSRN and has been downloaded more than 7,500 times) the author reports striking evidence of extraordinary good performance of the moving average trading strategy. Segmentation and Navigation Support of Clinical Data Sets to Simulate the Bronchoscopy and Rhinoscopy

A training and simulation system for therapy planning is developed based on patient specific imaging data. A real endoscope is used for navigation through the virtual patient. For this purpose sensors were built in the endoscope in order to track the translation, rotation and the angle of the distal end. Pre-processing (segmentation, tissue characterization) speeds-up the volume rendering up to real-time. Collision detection enables a realistic fly through the virtual patient.
