Re e lupi mannari: il Lai di Bisclavret e altri esempi dalla letteratura d’oïl
2021
Focusing on identities and conflicts in literature, this article proposes an analysis of the bifid, metamorphic and conflictual figure of the werewolf. Particularly, Marie de France’s Lay of Bisclavret is analyzed in the light of Giorgio Agamben’s philosophical-anthropological theory about the Homo sacer. Comparing the wolf-man to the “sacred man,” this theory not only does it allow us to understand the liminal juridical essence of the werewolf in medieval society, but it also explains the central role of sovereignty in the “recognition” of the wolf-man, in its reintroduction into the civil context of the court, and therefore in the resolution of “conflicts” and in the re-establishment of a…
Giacinta, Giustina e le altre: Luigi Capuana tra fotografia e nevrosi di fine secolo
2019
The paper intends to investigate the effects of a singular plot, which occurred in the century of Darwin, between photography, psychiatry and literary invention. In particular, the object of investigation is the narrative work of Luigi Capuana - from Profili di donne (1877) to the Marquis of Roccaverdina (1901) - in which the reflections of the application of photography can be seen both from the unknown sphere of human passions, women in particular, both to the occult world of the spirit that lives beyond death. In the decades in which the realist experience is consummated and the interest in the spirit is rediscovered, the female characters of Capuanian fiction reflect in an exemplary way…

I sistemi delle classi d’età. Il contributo teorico di Bernardo Bernardi e la loro riscoperta contemporanea in chiave identitaria e patrimoniale
2020
This chapter considers Bernardi’s contribution to two different processes of traditional institutions revival in East Africa. He was the main ethnographer of the Mugwe, a traditional dignitary of the Meru of Kenya, that ceased to exist soon after his field work. He used the attribution ‘failing prophet’ in the title of the first edition of his book, changed into ‘blessing prophet’ in the following edition, having in the meanwhile registered a growing symbolic consideration for the institution. The history of the gadaa generational class system of the Oromo is intertwined with the Oromo liberation struggle. The institution never disappeared entirely, having remained operative among the Oromo…
