Violence and Proximity Violence: Links and Interpretative Developments

This first chapter aims to deciphering the unresolved ties that harken back to patriarchy, a category used to justify all kinds of abuse and maltreatment of women, even in recent years. The more representations legitimizing the centuries-old exercise of control by men over women’s bodies are shared socially, the more they relegate women to positions of segregation. This is a practice typical of patriarchal systems, which tend to place the weakest subject in a position of permanent subordination. In the case of migrant women, in extreme cases, patriarchy even arrives at the dehumanization, objectification, and reification of their bodies.

The cultural heritage of mythical tales connected to real places in Rome is the core inspiration for the fourth book of Propertian elegies. But which features or attitudes lay the ground for the construction of collective memory? In this paper I will try to focus on how Propertius works on selection and removal of Roman history’s events and characters as early as in the first three books of Elegies: in the Propertian sense of history, the “belonging to” and the “distance from” the social frameworks of memory are re-examined by concepts as betrayal and vulnerability of thick relations tying together citizens, soldiers, friends.

Este estudio tiene por objeto identificar la relación existente entre las trayectorias delictivas y los factores de vulnerabilidad y exclusión social en adolescentes en conflicto con la ley. Para ello se analizan 281 expedientes de adolescentes en conflicto con la ley de la ciudad de València y se generan 3 trayectorias delictivas: inicial, moderada y consolidada, que se asocian a indicadores de vulnerabilidad y exclusión social. This chapter offers a close reading of the young adult novel Miss by Synne Sun Loes (2017). The story is about 16-year-old Ea who is at the point of dropping out of school. The title carries a double reference—on the one hand, to Ea’s feeling of being a mis(s)fit and, on the other hand, to her critique of her best friend turning into a ‘Little Miss Perfect’. The analysis discusses two main questions: What has made this teenager from a well-off family so vulnerable? and How is her resistance expressed?
