New determination of double-β-decay properties in48Ca: High-precisionQββ-value measurement and improved nuclear matrix element calculations

We report a direct measurement of the Q-value of the neutrinoless double-beta-decay candidate 48Ca at the TITAN Penning-trap mass spectrometer, with the result that Q = 4267.98(32) keV. We measured the masses of both the mother and daughter nuclides, and in the latter case found a 1 keV deviation from the literature value. In addition to the Q-value, we also present results of a new calculation of the neutrinoless double-beta-decay nuclear matrix element of 48Ca. Using diagrammatic many-body perturbation theory to second order to account for physics outside the valence space, we constructed an effective shell-model double-beta-decay operator, which increased the nuclear matrix element by ab…

Quasi-free scattering with 6,8He beams

Abstract This paper presents the results of experimental investigations of ( p , p n ) , ( p , p α ) and ( p , p 6 He) reactions with relativistic 6 He and 8 He beams impinging on a hydrogen target. Information on the structure of extremely neutron-rich nuclei was obtained by using the unique characteristic of quasi-free scattering processes and inverse kinematics. For the first time, momentum distributions of complex clusters inside 6 He and 8 He were measured. Spectroscopic factors for valence neutrons, α - and 6 He clusters were deduced from the experimental data. The PHENIX experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider has performed systematic measurements of phi meson production in the K+K- decay channel at midrapidity in p + p, d + Au, Cu + Cu, and Au + Au collisions at root s(NN) = 200 GeV. Results are presented on the phi invariant yield and the nuclear modification factor R-AA for Au + Au and Cu + Cu, and R-dA for d + Au collisions, studied as a function of transverse momentum (1 < p(T) < 7 GeV/c) and centrality. Parity non-conservation at the peak of p-resonances in low-energy neutron-nucleus scattering

Abstract Parity-non-conserving effects at the top of ρ-wave resonances in low-energy neutron-nucleus scattering are revisited in view of recent measurements in 238 U and 232 Th. This is done in the framework of the valence model. A quite simple expression in terms of the strength of the neutron-nucleus parity-non-conserving force is derived for the P ( E p ) asymmetry. The result, which is independent on the nucleus, can usefully be considered as a benchmark for those effects. Maximally aligned states in $^{99}$Ag

Excited states of Ag-99 were populated via the Cr-50 + Ni-58 (261 MeV) reaction using the NORDBALL detector array equipped with charged-particle and neutron. detector systems for reaction channel separation. On the basis of the measured gammagamma-coincidence relations and angular distribution ratios a significantly extended level scheme has been constructed up to E-x similar to 7.8 MeV and I = 35/2. The experimental results were described within the framework of the shell model. Candidates for states fully aligned in the pig(9/2)(-3)nu(d(5/2),g(7/2))(2) valence configuration space were found at 4109 and 6265 keV.

Study of the low-lying collective states in 94–100Mo isotopes using the MAVA

Abstract A systematic investigation of reduced electric quadrupole decay strengths, B ( E 2 ) and level energies of even 94–100 Mo isotopes is performed using the microscopic anharmonic vibrator approach (MAVA). The MAVA is suited for dynamical microscopic description of two-phonon-like states and their energy splitting due to interaction with low-lying one-phonon states. The starting point for the model is a realistic single-particle valence space and a microscopic many-body Hamiltonian which is used to generate the one-phonon states by the use of the quasiparticle random-phase approximation (QRPA). The same Hamiltonian generates also the interaction between the one- and two-phonon states.…

Microscopic nuclear-structure calculations for the solar-neutrino detector and close-lying isobars

In the present solar-neutrino experiments, mainly observing the pp contribution of the solar-neutrino flux, an important role is played by 71Ga. The structure of this detector nucleus and three of its isobars have been calculated by using the microscopic quasiparticle–phonon model. Using a realistic effective two-body interaction in a realistic valence space, the method yielded energy spectra in good agreement with experiments. The calculated logft values for a number of spontaneous and neutrino-induced Gamow–Teller transitions, when compared with the experimental results, gave qualitatively correct but overestimated transition-strength values in most cases.

We derive stringent constraints on neutrino speed, weak equivalence principle violation, Lorentz invariance violation, and dual lensing from the first high-energy astrophysical neutrino source: TXS $0506+056$. Observation of neutrino (IceCube-170922A) and photons in a similar time frame and from the same direction is used to derive these limits. We describe ways in which these constraints can be further improved by orders of magnitude.
