What do we learn from comparing hedonic scores and willingness to pay data? [O8.2]
2010
Hedonic measurements are generally conducted in a blind condition and thus evaluate consumer reactions to the sensory characteristics of the products whereas auctions are generally conducted to determine consumer valuation of extrinsic characteristics. In the last 10 years these two approaches were combined to reveal consumer preferences. Thus, tasting was introduced in the auction procedures. However, only two papers reported a comparison of these two approaches (Lange et al., 2002 with a between-subject design and Noussair et al., 2004 with a within-subject design). The aim of this paper is to present such a comparison on four data sets collected in our laboratory for different food produ…

Recruitments in Finnish universities: practicing strategic or pathetic HRM?
2016
Recruitment is a core instrument in the academic labour market. This article takes the perspective of the organisation − here, the university − on recruitment. Universities’ personnel policies and practises are shifting from legally oriented personnel administration to more strategic human resource management (HRM). In Nordic countries, this shift is partly driven by the changing status of higher education institutions from state-governed bureaus to more autonomous institutions. This article provides insight into this transition, using Finland as a case example of higher education systems that have undergone drastic reform, moving from a civil servant model to autonomous personnel policy. D…
Itsearviointi suomalaisissa yliopistoissa: arvoja, kehittämistä ja imagon rakentamista
2009
Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena on analysoida suomalaisten yliopistojen ja niihin kuuluvien laitosten itsearviointia. Tutkimuksessa tarkastellaan, miten yliopistoissa ja laitoksilla ymmärretään itsearvioinnin käsite, ”itse” toimijana sekä miten yliopistoissa ja laitoksilla rakennetaan imagoa ja identiteettiä itsearviointien avulla erilaisten yliopistoon kohdistuvien vaatimusten ristipaineessa. Tutkimuksen aineistona ovat suomalaisten yliopistojen vuosina 1993–2003 tuottamat yliopistotason itsearviointiraportit sekä laitostason toimijoille tehdyn kyselyn vastaukset. Aineistoja analysoidessa sovelletaan laadullista sisällönanalyysia, jonka toteutuksessa hyödynnetään fenomenografisen lähestymi…
Kestääkö ääni? : laulunopetuksen vaikutus opettajaksi valmistuvien äänen laatuun ja ilmaisuun
2017
The aim of this study was to investigate how regular singing lessons and deliberate practice impact future teachers’ voice quality and their expression in speech and singing. Previous research about teachers’ speaking voice has shown that kindergarten teachers and classroom teachers are at high risk of showing symptoms or developing disorders, which weaken their effectiveness of expression. The study is qualitative and experimental and it includes longitudinal vocal education, which lasted one academic year. This thesis was approached theoretically through existential phenomenology with a holistic conception of man. Data was gathered from eleven subjects and divided into three research grou…
Selection bias and incentives to firms in development programs: an ex-post evaluation of an aid scheme for Sicily
2014
This paper focuses on the evaluation of an aid scheme included in a larger local development program framework implemented in Italy during the 2000-2006 cycle of EU Structural Funds. It follows a previous analysis (Cusimano & Mazzola, 2014) on the ex-post evaluation of the effectiveness of the resources allocated to aid schemes included in the Italian territorial integrated projects (TIPs) and aims at identifying the possible presence of selection bias in measuring the effectiveness of the policy. Previous results showed a partial effectiveness of the program, at least with reference to employment and sales. The objective of this work is to investigate the role of the selection process in i…
Tools to monitor and to evaluate inclusion: an historical review
2021
The management of complexity in the social and educational field recalls the need for the entire teaching staff to make a constant critical reflection to interpret the changing changes that exist within micro and macro socio-cultural contexts, in order to grasp the positivity of creative and innovative stresses, but also the dangerous phenomenon of the expansion of new forms of discomfort and social disintegration, cultural and relational. Inclusive education is a complex activity to be carried out, monitored and promoted because it is characterized by exegetical multidimensionality, plurality of interpretation and difficulties of evaluation. At national and international level, various exp…
