WHY DO OBJECTIVE WAGE LEVELS HAVE LESSER IMPACT THAN RELATIVE EARNINGS ON WORK SATISFACTION? COMPARISON OF OBJECTIVE AND SUBJECTIVE WORK EVALUATIONS …

2017

One of the main factors determining job selection decisions are wage levels. Yet a lot of studies show that wages have only a small, diminishing impact on job (and life) satisfaction (Easterlin, 2011; Diener and Biswas-Diener, 2002; Kahnemann and Keaton, 2010). Especially, the short term positive wage-increase effect, is moderated by attained level of income in relation to other’s people earnings (Clark, 2011). This allows for the hypothesis, that the individual evaluation of work compensation will have a stronger impact on work satisfaction than the direct effect of wages has. The presented study compares psychological and economical variable’s impact on job satisfaction. The results, in w…

Health care and societal costs of the management of children and adolescents with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder in Spain : a descriptive a…

2017

Background Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common neurodevelopmental condition in childhood (5.3% to 7.1% worldwide prevalence), with substantial overall financial burden to children/adolescents, their families, and society. The aims of this study were to describe the clinical characteristics of children and adolescents with ADHD in Spain, estimate the associated direct/indirect costs of the disorder, and assess whether the characteristics and financial costs differed between children/adolescents adequately responding to currently available pharmacotherapies compared with children/adolescents for whom pharmacotherapies failed. Methods This was a multicenter, cross-secti…

2018

Technical-economical evaluation for distributed storage applications. An Italian case study for a medium-scale public facility

2014

Time-of-use energy cost management involves the use of storage by customers to reduce their electricity bills. This can be accomplished by charging the storage during off-peak time periods, when electricity energy prices are low, and discharging it during times when on-peak energy prices are applied. This article addresses the question whether it is economically viable to install medium-scale distributed storage devices in the power system designed to lower the electricity cost for a customer-side application, assuming flexible electricity tariffs. The technical/economical evaluation is carried out referring to Lithium ion (Li-ion), Sodium Sulphur (NaS) and Vanadium Redox Battery (VRB) tech…

Quality Assurance and Support Measures for Solar Cooling on System Level

2016

Abstract Within the IEA SHC Task 48 “Quality assurance and support measures for Solar Cooling” the analysis and evaluation of the systems has been one of the four main focuses. Here the activities are including the lab- and field-based characterization of the systems, the definition and application of performance figures, a guideline for a reliable monitoring procedure including methods for automated error detection and an updated overview on worldwide installed DEC systems including hints and good practice examples. They are furthermore leading to three different easy-to-use tools for solar cooling systems: The LCA tool considers environmental and energetic values for the evaluation, the P…

Automatic research of the capitalization rate for the residential automated valuation: an experimental study in Cosenza (Italy).

2017

When a market oriented approach is not applicable because of the lack of comparable sales data (Ciuna et al. 2014a), International Valuation Standards suggest the use of the Income Approach, which has the task of simulating the market through an economic and financial scheme. The central question of this approach is due to the quantification of the capitalization rate, whereas it is generally extracted in a market segment different from that of the subject. This paper intends to propose an automated valuation model of the capitalization rate based on a real estate database built through a computerized geocoding automatic procedure, starting from the application of statistical models of mult…

A comparative evaluation of crashworthy composite sandwich structures

2007

Abstract This paper describes an experimental evaluation of the energy absorption properties of a series of novel designs for cost-effective crashworthy composite sandwich structures. All the designs are based on the concept of the “tied-core” sandwich, i.e. the use of additional core reinforcements that act to tie the opposing facings of a sandwich together, thus preventing catastrophic failure under edgewise loading. The design, manufacture and crush testing of hollow rectangular tubes fabricated from six different tied-core concepts is described. Factors that are shown to promote high energy absorption include large, continuous areas of contact between the facings and the ties, non-thin …

Integrating usability work into a large inter-organisational agile development project: Tactics developed by usability designers

2015

We examined how usability activities were integrated in a large inter-organisational agile development project. The collaboration between the usability designers and agile team members was affected by the size and nature of the project. Results showed integration was achieved through 5 tactics employed by the usability designers.Three propositions for organising usability activities in agile projects were derived. In this paper we examine the integration of usability activities into a large inter-organisational agile development project. Inter-organisational agile projects possess unique attributes. They involve multiple stakeholders from different organisational contexts and are thus charact…

The BAC factor method: Application to a real Italian not-residential building

2016

The paper focuses the evaluation of the impact of Building Automation Control (BAC) systems on not-residential buildings. In particular, this work shows how the control, monitoring and automation actions considered by the European Standard EN 15232 can influence the electric and thermal energy consumptions of the University of Palermo DEIM (Department of Energy, Information Engineering and Mathematical Models) building. After evaluating the building energy consumptions, by using the CEI Guide 205-18, the BAC systems are chosen and sized and an economic evaluation of their installation cost is also carried out.

Indoor Environmental Quality Survey: A Brief Comparison between Different Post Occupancy Evaluation Methods

2013

Building occupants are important factor in giving information on indoor conditions such as comfort, productivity, building performance and occupants ́ health. Even that, being their appraisal mainly based on subjective judgments, it is difficult to set up a standard and objective method for this purpose. The present work aimed to describe, analyze and compare the most common tests on this topic, in order to highlight critical, failings and strengths.
