New type of indices, the mean molecular connectivity indices (MMCI), based on nine different concepts of mean are proposed to model, together with molecular connectivity indices (MCI), experimental parameters and random variables, eleven properties of organic solvents. Two model methodologies are used to test the different descriptors: the multilinear least-squares (MLS) methodology and the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) methodology. Do categorical representations modulate early automatic visual processing? A visual mismatch-negativity study.

Perceptual categorization is an important cognitive function. In the auditory domain, categorization already occurs within the first 200 ms of information processing, as indexed by the mismatch negativity. Here, we assessed the characteristics of the visual mismatch negativity (vMMN) elicited during the categorization of previously unknown visual stimuli. To examine this, we used five-dot patterns with characteristics that allow for the formation of categories through rotation and reflection but not through other physical properties. Obesity has complex links to respiratory health. Mendelian randomization (MR) enables assessment of causality of body mass index (BMI) effects on airflow obstruction and mid-expiratory flow. In many cities, sectorization projects of the drinking water distribution network have been implemented. This study provides a methodology to evaluate the efficiency of the sectors of a water distribution network by applying a data envelopment analysis weighted Russell directional distance (DEA-WRDD) model. This non-radial DEA model gives the overall efficiency of each unit of analysis, as well as each input, output, and undesirable output considered in the evaluation. A posteriori error estimates for Webster's equation in wave propagation

We consider a generalised Webster’s equation for describing wave propagation in curved tubular structures such as variable diameter acoustic wave guides. Webster’s equation in generalised form has been rigorously derived in a previous article starting from the wave equation, and it approximates cross-sectional averages of the propagating wave. AbstractWe investigate the action of pseudodifferential operators of Beurling type on the wave front sets. More precisely, we show that these operators are microlocal, that is, preserve or reduce wave front sets. Some consequences on micro-hypoellipticity are derived.

Well-posedness of Prandtl equations with non-compatible data

In this paper we shall be concerned with Prandtl's equations with incompatible data, i.e. with initial data that, in general, do not fulfil the boundary conditions imposed on the solution. Under the hypothesis of analyticity in the streamwise variable, we shall prove that Prandtl's equations, on the half-plane or on the half-space, are well posed for a short time.

Optimization of conducting structures by using the homogenization method

Approximation and numerical realization of a class of optimization problems with control variables represented by coefficients of linear elliptic state equations is considered. Convergence analysis of well-posed problems is performed by using one- and two-level approximation strategies. The latter is utilized in an optimization layout problem for two conductive constituents, for which the necessary steps to transfer the well-posed problem into a computational form are described and some numerical experiments are given.

Double point curves for corank 2 map germs from C2 to C3

AbstractWe characterize finite determinacy of map germs f:(C2,0)→(C3,0) in terms of the Milnor number μ(D(f)) of the double point curve D(f) in (C2,0) and we provide an explicit description of the double point scheme in terms of elementary symmetric functions. Also we prove that the Whitney equisingularity of 1-parameter families of map germs ft:(C2,0)→(C3,0) is equivalent to the constancy of both μ(D(ft)) and μ(ft(C2)∩H) with respect to t, where H⊂C3 is a generic plane.
