Estimation of the Time-Variant Velocity of a Single Walking Person in Two-Dimensional Non-Stationary Indoor Environments Using Radio-Frequency Techni…
2020
Accurate estimation of the time-variant (TV) velocity of moving persons/objects in indoor spaces is of crucial importance for numerous wireless indoor applications. This article introduces a novel iterative procedure to estimate the TV velocity, i.e., TV speed and TV angle-of-motion (AOM), of a single moving person in 2D indoor environments by using radio-frequency (RF) techniques. The indoor area is equipped with a distributed 2 × 2 multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system. The proposed method is divided into two parts. In the first part, we estimate the path gains and the instantaneous Doppler frequencies by fitting the exact spectrograms of the complex channel gains of a 2D no…
Do childhood infections affect labour market outcomes in adulthood and, if so, how?
2020
A burgeoning body of literature suggests that poor childhood health leads to adverse health outcomes. lower educational attainment and weaker labour market outcomes in adulthood. We focus on an important but under-researched topic, which is the role played by infection-related hospitalization (IRH) in childhood and its links to labour market outcomes later in life. The participants aged 24-30 years in 2001 N =1706 were drawn from the Young Finns Study, which includes comprehensive registry data on IRHs in childhood at ages 0-18 years. These data are linked to longitudinal registry information on labour market outcomes (2001-2012) and parental background (1980). The estimations were performe…

Study of the neutral pion and direct photon production in Au+Au collisions at √sNN = 39-200 GeV
2013
This thesis focuses on the study of the neutral pion and eta production in the Au+Au “low-energy”collisions at √sNN = 39 and 62.4 GeV.The η/π0 ratio was reconstructed in Au+Au minimum bias collisions at √sNN = 62.4 GeV up to pT < 7 GeV/c. The direct photons were reconstructed via the subtraction method using two different PID cuts up to pT < 10 GeV/c in Au+Au minimum bias collisions at √sNN = 62.4 GeV.
Dynamics of a harmonic oscillator coupled with a Glauber amplifier
2020
A system of a quantum harmonic oscillator bi-linearly coupled with a Glauber amplifier is analysed considering a time-dependent Hamiltonian model. The Hilbert space of this system may be exactly subdivided into invariant finite dimensional subspaces. Resorting to the Jordan-Schwinger map, the dynamical problem within each invariant subspace may be traced back to an effective SU(2) Hamiltonian model expressed in terms of spin variables only. This circumstance allows to analytically solve the dynamical problem and thus to study the exact dynamics of the oscillator-amplifier system under specific time-dependent scenarios. Peculiar physical effects are brought to light by comparing the dynamics…
