Cleaning mums and brave policemen: gender representation and gender-inclusive language in EFL teaching materials in Lithuania
2019
Socialinės lyties kalbinės raiškos ir įvaizdžio kūrimo aspektai anglų kalbos (kaip svetimosios ar antrosios) vadovėliuose yra sulaukę nemažai tyrėjų dėmesio, tačiau lyties raiška Lietuvoje leistuose anglų kalbos vadovėliuose iki šiol analizuota sporadiškai (Brusokaitė, Verikaitė-Gaigalienė 2015), o tyrimų, skirtų ne vadovėliams, bet kitoms mokymo priemonėms, iki šiol beveik neatlikta. Šiame straipsnyje kiekybiniu (pasitelkiant tekstynų analizės įrankius) ir kokybiniu (remiantis turinio analize) būdu analizuojamos socialinės lyties vaizdavimo tendencijos keturiose – dviejose pratybų ir dviejose testų – anglų kalbos (kaip svetimosios) mokymo priemonėse, išleistose 2005–2017 m. Lietuvoje. Remi…
On Descriptive Characterizations of an Integral Recovering a Function from Its $$L^r$$-Derivative
2022
The notion of Lr-variational measure generated by a function F ∈ Lr[a, b] is introduced and, in terms of absolute continuity of this measure, a descriptive characterization of the HKr -integral recovering a function from its Lr-derivative is given. It is shown that the class of functions generating absolutely continuous Lr-variational measure coincides with the class of ACGr -functions which was introduced earlier, and that both classes coincide with the class of the indefinite HKr-integrals under the assumption of Lr-differentiability almost everywhere of the functions consisting these classes
Vector Well-posedness of Optimization Problems and Variational Inequalities
2008
In this paper, a new sufficient condition is given in order a vector variational inequality is well-posed. This condition uses generalized convexity assumptions and can be also used in order to prove the well-posedness of a vector optimization problem.
Adaptation to a seasonally varying environment: a strong latitudinal cline in reproductive diapause combined with high gene flow in Drosophila montan…
2011
Adaptation to seasonal changes in the northern hemisphere includes an ability to predict the forthcoming cold season from gradual changes in environmental cues early enough to prepare for the harsh winter conditions. The magnitude and speed of changes in these cues vary between the latitudes, which induces strong selection pressures for local adaptation. We studied adaptation to seasonal changes in Drosophila montana, a northern maltfly, by defining the photoperiodic conditions leading to adult reproductive diapause along a latitudinal cline in Finland and by measuring genetic differentiation and the amount of gene flow between the sampling sites with microsatellites. Our data revealed a cl…
Evolution in Space and Time: The Second Synthesis between Ecology, Evolutionary Biology, and the Philosophy of Biology
2023
The Palaeomagnetism of the Permian Rocks of the Black Forest, Germany
1972
Summary Palaeomagnetic measurements made upon Permian samples from the Black Forest, Odenwald and Pfalzerwald (excluding those measurements on samples from the Schopfheim basin) are consistent with those from north-western Europe. The virtual pole based upon 18 sites is 174.9°E. 48.4N. The measurements made on the fine-grained shales and mudstones from the Schopfheim basin are significantly different from the preceding. Since incorrect age assignment, sampling, components of secondary magnetic and tectonic effects can be excluded, the difference is attributed to incomplete removal of the effects of secular variation. The Scharfenstein massif previously regarded as Permian, was found to have…
Correlation of welded ignimbrites on Pantelleria (Strait of Sicily) using paleomagnetism
2011
Although the oldest volcanic rocks exposed at Pantelleria (Strait of Sicily) are older than 300 ka, most of the island is covered by the 45–50 ka Green Tuff ignimbrite, thought to be related to the Cinque Denti caldera, and younger lavas and scoria cones. Pre-50 ka rocks (predominantly rheomorphic ignimbrites) are exposed at isolated sea cliffs, and their stratigraphy and chronology are not completely resolved. Based on volcanic stratigraphy and K/Ar dating, it has been proposed that the older La Vecchia caldera is related to ignimbrite Q (114 ka), and that ignimbrites F, D, and Z (106, 94, and 79 ka, respectively) were erupted after caldera formation. We report here the paleomagnetic direc…
Multi-component gas emission measurements of the active lava lake of Nyiragongo, DR Congo
2017
Between 2007 and 2011 four measurement campaigns (June 2007, July 2010, June 2011, and December 2011) were carried out at the crater rim of Nyiragongo volcano, DR Congo. Nyiragongo is one of the most active volcanoes in Africa. The ground-based remote sensing technique Multi-Axis Differential Optical Absorption Spectroscopy (MAX-DOAS), which uses scattered sunlight, the in-situ Multi-Component Gas Analyzer System (Multi-GAS) and alkaline impregnated filter were simultaneously applied during all field trips. The bromine monoxide to sulfur dioxide (BrO/SO2) and carbon dioxide to sulfur dioxide (CO2/SO2) molar ratios were determined, among other ratios. During the different field trips variati…
Recent Change—Terrestrial Cryosphere
2015
This chapter compiles and assesses information on recent and current change within the terrestrial cryosphere of the Baltic Sea drainage basin. Findings are based on long-term observations. Snow cover extent (SCE), duration and amount have shown a widespread decrease although there is large interannual and regional variation. Few data are available on changes in snow structural properties. There is no evidence for a recent change in the frequency or severity of snow-related extreme events. There has been a decrease in glacier coverage in Sweden and glacier ice thickness in inland Scandinavia. The European permafrost is warming, and there has been a northward retreat of the southern boundary…
Microbial succession of nitrate-reducing bacteria in the rhizosphere of Poa alpina across a glacier foreland in the Central Alps
2006
International audience; Changes in community structure and activity of the dissimilatory nitrate-reducing community were investigated across a glacier foreland in the Central Alps to gain insight into the successional pattern of this functional group and the driving environmental factors. Bulk soil and rhizosphere soil of Poa alpina was sampled in five replicates in August during the flowering stage and in September after the first snowfalls along a gradient from 25 to 129 years after deglaciation and at a reference site outside the glacier foreland (> 2000 years deglaciated). In a laboratory-based assay, nitrate reductase activity was determined colorimetrically after 24 h of anaerobic inc…
