Photo-transmutation of leptons

2001

By photo-transmutation of leptons we mean photon-lepton reactions of the following type: $\gamma l_\alpha \longrightarrow \gamma l_\beta$ with $l_\alpha \neq l_\beta$, occurring as a consequence of the lepton mass matrix changing its orientation (rotating) under changing scales. In this paper, we first discuss these reactions in general terms, then proceed to the calculation of their cross sections in two specific schemes, one within the framework of the conventional Standard Model, the other being the so-called Dualized Standard Model we ourselves advocate. Although the cross section obtained is generally small the calculation reveals certain special circumstances where these reactions may…

SU(6) Extension of the Weinberg-Tomozawa Meson-Baryon Lagrangian

2005

A consistent SU(6) extension of the Weinberg-Tomozawa meson-baryon chiral Lagrangian is constructed which incorporates vector meson and baryon decuplet degrees of freedom. The corresponding Bethe-Salpeter approximation predicts the existence of an isoscalar spin-parity ${3/2}^-$ $K^*N$ bound state (strangeness +1) with a mass around 1.7--1.8$ $GeV. It is the highest hypercharge state of an antidecuplet SU(3) representation and it is unstable through $K^*$ decay. The estimated width of this state (neglecting d-wave $KN$ decay) turns out to be small ($\Gamma \le 15 $MeV). Clear signals of this resonance would be found in reactions like $\gamma p \to {\bar K}^0 p K^+ \pi^-$ by looking at the t…

The role of electromagnetic form factors in meson exchange currents

1988

The question of electromagnetic form factors, i.e. F1V versus GEV, to be used in isovector meson exchange currents in nonrelativistic calculations is critically reviewed. None of the various arguments given earlier in favour of F1V have been found valid. Furthermore, model dependence of theoretical calculations on deuteron threshold disintegration due to e.m. form factor fits and potential models is found to be substantial. In view of these results, relativistic effects have to be included for a clear understanding of this process in the high momentum transfer region.

Chiral symmetry amplitudes in the s-wave isoscalar and isovector channels and the $\sigma, f_0(980), a_0 (980)$ scalar mesons

1996

We use a nonpertubative approach which combines coupled channel Lippmann Schwinger equations with meson-meson potentials provided by the lowest order chiral Lagrangian. By means of one parameter, a cut off in the momentum of the loop integrals, which results of the order of 1 GeV, we obtain singularities in the S-wave amplitudes corresponding to the $\sigma$, f_0 and a_0 resonances. The $\pi \pi \to \pi \pi, \pi \pi \to K \bar{K}$ phase shifts and inelasticities in the T = 0 scalar channel are well reproduced as well as the $\pi^0 \eta$ and $K \bar{K}$ mass distributions in the T = 1 channel. Furthermore, the total and partial decay widths of the f_0 and a_0 resonances are properly reproduc…

Search for invisible Higgs boson decays in vector boson fusion at s=13TeV with the ATLAS detector

2019

We report a search for Higgs bosons that are produced via vector boson fusion and subsequently decay into invisible particles. The experimental signature is an energetic jet pair with invariant mass of O(1)TeV and O(100)GeV missing transverse momentum. The analysis uses 36.1 fb −1 of pp collision data at s=13TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. In the signal region the 2252 observed events are consistent with the background estimation. Assuming a 125GeV scalar particle with Standard Model cross sections, the upper limit on the branching fraction of the Higgs boson decay into invisible particles is 0.37 at 95% confidence level where 0.28 was expected. This limit is interpreted in H…

Probing Higgs-portal dark matter with vector-boson fusion

2020

We constrain the Higgs-portal model employing the vector-boson fusion channel at the LHC. In particular, we include the phenomenologically interesting parameter region near the Higgs resonance, where the Higgs-boson mass is close to the threshold for dark-matter production and a running-width prescription has to be employed for the Higgs-boson propagator. Limits for the Higgs-portal coupling as a function of the dark-matter mass are derived from the CMS search for invisible Higgs-boson decays in vector-boson fusion at 13 TeV. Furthermore, we perform projections for the 14 TeV HL-LHC and the 27 TeV HE-LHC taking into account a realistic estimate of the systematic uncertainties. The respectiv…

Measurement of the integrated luminosities of the data taken by BESIII at √ s = 3.650 and 3.773 GeV

2013

Data sets were collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPC II collider at the center-of-mass energy of root s=3.650 GeV during May 2009 and at root s=3.773 GeV from January 2010 to May 2011. By analyzing the large angle Bhabha scattering events, the integrated luminosities of the two data sets are measured to be (44.49 +/- 0.02 +/- 0.44) pb(-1) and (2916.94 +/- 0.18 +/- 29.17) pb(-1), respectively, where the first error is statistical and the second error is systematic.

ρρinteraction in the hidden gauge formalism and thef0(1370)andf2(1270)resonances

2008

We have studied the interaction of vector mesons within the hidden gauge formalism and applied it to the particular case of the $\ensuremath{\rho}\ensuremath{\rho}$ interaction. We find a strong attraction in the isospin, spin channels $I$, $S=0$, 0 and 0, 2, which is enough to bind the $\ensuremath{\rho}\ensuremath{\rho}$ system. We also find that the attraction in the $I$, $S=0$, 2 channel is much stronger than in the 0, 0 case. The states develop a width when the $\ensuremath{\rho}$ mass distribution is considered, and particularly when the $\ensuremath{\pi}\ensuremath{\pi}$ decay channel is turned on. Using a regularization scheme with cutoffs of natural size, we obtain results in fair …

Observation of the Dalitz decayη′→γe+e−

2015

We report the first observation of the Dalitz decay eta' -> gamma e(+)e(-), based on a data sample of 1.31 billion J/psi events collected with the BESIII detector. The eta' mesons are produced via the J/psi -> gamma eta' decay process. The ratio (eta' -> gamma e(+)e(-))/Gamma (eta' -> gamma gamma) is measured to be (2.13 +/- 0.09(stat) +/- 0.07(sys)) x 10(-2). This corresponds to a branching fraction B(eta' -> gamma e(+)e(-)) = (4.69 +/- 0.20(stat) +/- 0.23(sys)) x 10(-4). The transition form factor is extracted and different expressions are compared to the measured dependence on the e(+)e(-) invariant mass. The results are consistent with the prediction of the vector meson dominance model.
