Analytical solution for the solid angle subtended at any point by an ellipse via a point source radiation vector potential

2010

An axially symmetric radiation vector potential is derived for a spherically symmetric point source. This vector potential is used to derive a line integral for the solid angle subtended at a point source by a detector of arbitrary shape and location. An equivalent line integral given previously by Asvestas for optical applications is derived using this formulation. The line integral can be evaluated in closed form for important cases, and the analytical solution for the solid angle subtended by an ellipse at a general point is presented. The solution for the ellipse was obtained by considering sections of a right elliptic cone. The general solution for the ellipse requires the solution of …

Calculations for a disk source and a general detector using a radiation vector potential

2008

A closed form expression for a radiation vector potential is derived for a generalized disk radiation source. By applying Stokes's theorem the surface integral for the radiation flux into a general detector is converted into a much simpler line integral of the vector potential around the edge of the detector. This line integral can be easily evaluated for general detector geometry and general location and angular orientation relative to the disk source. For a number of cases the line integral reduces to integrals of Bessel functions which give various generalizations of Ruby's formula. Explicit formulas and numerical results for the geometric efficiency are given for circular and elliptical…

Search for narrow dibaryon resonances in neutral pion photoproduction from the deuteron

2000

The reaction γd↦π0 X has been measured with TAPS at MAMI in the energy range E γ = 140-300 MeV. Using the Glasgow tagging spectrometer a photon energy resolution of 0.8 MeV was achieved. The energy excitation functions of integral and differential total cross-sections show no structures of statistical significance > 2σ. Upper limits for the production of narrow isoscalar or isovector dibaryons with masses m? 2100 MeV/c2 were deduced. They are in the range 2-5 μb averaged over the 0.8 MeV energy resolution.

Maximum likelihood positioning for gamma-ray imaging detectors with depth of interaction measurement

2009

Abstract The center of gravity algorithm leads to strong artifacts for gamma-ray imaging detectors that are based on monolithic scintillation crystals and position sensitive photo-detectors. This is a consequence of using the centroids as position estimates. The fact that charge division circuits can also be used to compute the standard deviation of the scintillation light distribution opens a way out of this drawback. We studied the feasibility of maximum likelihood estimation for computing the true gamma-ray photo-conversion position from the centroids and the standard deviation of the light distribution. The method was evaluated on a test detector that consists of the position sensitive …

Limits on Anomalous Top Couplings from Z Pole Physics

1997

We obtain constraints on possible anomalous interactions of the top quark with the electroweak vector bosons arising from the precision measurements at the Z pole. In the framework of $SU(2)_L \otimes U(1)_Y$ chiral Lagrangians, we examine all effective CP-conserving operators of dimension five which induce fermionic currents involving the top quark. We constrain the magnitudes of these anomalous interactions by evaluating their one-loop contributions to the Z pole physics. Our analysis shows that the operators that contribute to the LEP observables get bounds close to the theoretical expectation for their anomalous couplings. We also show that those which break the $SU(2)_C$ custodial symm…

Strength ofJπ=1+Gamow-Teller and isovector spin monopole transitions in double-β-decay triplets

2014

In this work we study systematically the energetics and intensity distributions of Gamow-Teller (GT${}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}$) and isovector spin monopole (IVSM${}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}$) transitions from the ground states of the pairs ($^{76}\mathrm{Ge}$,$^{76}\mathrm{Se}$), ($^{82}\mathrm{Se}$,$^{82}\mathrm{Kr}$), ($^{100}\mathrm{Mo}$,$^{100}\mathrm{Ru}$), ($^{116}\mathrm{Cd}$,$^{116}\mathrm{Sn}$), ($^{128}\mathrm{Te}$,$^{128}\mathrm{Xe}$), ($^{130}\mathrm{Te}$,$^{130}\mathrm{Xe}$), and ($^{136}\mathrm{Xe}$,$^{136}\mathrm{Ba}$), of double-beta-decay initial and final nuclei, to the ${J}^{\ensuremath{\pi}}={1}^{+}$ excited states of the intermediate odd-odd nuclei $^{76}\…

On the hamiltonian approach to commutator anomalies in (3+1) dimensions

1990

Abstract The quantization of Weyl fermions in the presence of an external nonabelian vector potential is discussed in the case of spacetime dimension (3+1). The hamiltonian approach is used, in the temporal gauge A 0 = 0. In particular, it is explicitly shown how one can lift the action of (an extension of) the group of gauge transformations to the bundle of Fock spaces parametrized by smooth vector potentials.

A position sensitive β−γ coincidence technique for sample analysis with the upgraded PANDA device

2020

Abstract PANDA (Particles And Non-Destructive Analysis) is measuring system developed for non-destructive analysis of samples for safety, security and safeguards. The capabilities of the PANDA device were expanded by the addition of a thick silicon detector for β particle detection. The upgraded device can now be used for position-sensitive α − γ and β − γ coincidence measurements of various kinds of radioactive samples. The capability of the PANDA device in using the β − γ coincidence technique was tested using a mixed source of 134Cs and 226Ra. In addition, the ability of PANDA to locate nuclides emitting β particles from samples was tested using a combined sample containing a mixed 134Cs…

Schematic and realistic model calculations of the isovector spin monopole excitations in 116In

2012

The excitation of Gamow-Teller (GT) and isovector spin monopole (IVSM) Jπ=1+ modes in 116In by (p,n) and (n,p) charge-exchange reactions on 116Cd and on 116Sn, respectively, is studied within the framework of the quasiparticle random-phase approximation. The calculations have been performed both for schematic and realistic model situations. It appears that the calculated admixture of the IVSM and Gamow-Teller (GT) Jπ=1+ excitations is negligible and that the contribution to the strength above 20 MeV of excitation energy, in 116In, is due to the IVSM (σr2t ±) mode. This result is compared with the recent experimental work that reported a large amount of both (p,n) and (n,p) strength beyond 1…
