Small-polaron transport inLa0.67Ca0.33MnO3thin films

1998

We present a detailed study of the activated resistivity of ${\mathrm{La}}_{0.67}{\mathrm{Ca}}_{0.33}{\mathrm{MnO}}_{3}$ films up to 600 K under the influence of high magnetic fields. Data in zero field can be explained by small polaron hopping as treated in the Friedman-Holstein theory. Based on the spin orientation of ferromagnetic clusters in a magnetic field, we develop a phenomenological model describing the temperature and field dependence of the resistivity with a minimum of free parameters. We find that the polarons have a magnetic contribution to their activation energy for hopping which depends on the variation of the spin order with increasing temperature and can be modified by a…

Control of field-free molecular alignment by phase-shaped laser pulses

2005

We report an experimental study of the control of molecular alignment of ${\mathrm{N}}_{2}$ by use of spectrally modulated pulses at an intensity regime below the intrinsic saturation of the alignment. By manipulating the relative timing of the alignment revival pattern arising from the even subset of the thermal ensemble as compared to the odd subset, we demonstrate that the angular distribution of the aligned molecule can be converted into planar delocalization at specific times. We also show that the angular focusing of the molecular axis can be switched off by applying a specific bipulse.

Enhanced detection techniques of orbital angular momentum states in the classical and quantum regimes

2021

Abstract The orbital angular momentum (OAM) of light has been at the center of several classical and quantum applications for imaging, information processing and communication. However, the complex structure inherent in OAM states makes their detection and classification nontrivial in many circumstances. Most of the current detection schemes are based on models of the OAM states built upon the use of Laguerre–Gauss (LG) modes. However, this may not in general be sufficient to capture full information on the generated states. In this paper, we go beyond the LG assumption, and employ hypergeometric-Gaussian (HyGG) modes as the basis states of a refined model that can be used—in certain scenar…

Parallel implementation of the MAGPACK package for the analysis of high-nuclearity spin clusters

2010

Abstract Molecular clusters are formed by a finite number of exchange-coupled paramagnetic centers and they are model systems between molecules and extended solids. In order to simulate their properties and extrapolate to solids, the size of the systems to be treated should be as large as possible. In this context, the use of efficient parallel codes is essential. We present the parallel programs ParAni and ParIso , for anisotropic and isotropic models, that enable the calculation of large energy matrices in parallel and the subsequent computation of the relevant spectral information. The evaluation of the matrix elements is based on the serial package Magpack that uses the irreducible tens…

Exact dark soliton solutions for a family ofNcoupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations in optical fiber media

2001

We consider a family of N coupled nonlinear Schr\"odinger equations which govern the simultaneous propagation of N fields in the normal dispersion regime of an optical fiber with various important physical effects. The linear eigenvalue problem associated with the integrable form of all the equations is constructed with the help of the Ablowitz-Kaup-Newell-Segur method. Using the Hirota bilinear method, exact dark soliton solutions are explicitly derived.

Search for the standard model Higgs boson in tau final states

2009

We present a search for the standard model Higgs boson using hadronically decaying tau leptons, in 1 inverse femtobarn of data collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron ppbar collider. We select two final states: tau plus missing transverse energy and b jets, and tau+ tau- plus jets. These final states are sensitive to a combination of associated W/Z boson plus Higgs boson, vector boson fusion and gluon-gluon fusion production processes. The observed ratio of the combined limit on the Higgs production cross section at the 95% C.L. to the standard model expectation is 29 for a Higgs boson mass of 115 GeV.

Measurement of the Angular and Lifetime Parameters of the DecaysBd0→J/ψK*0andBs0→J/ψϕ

2009

We present measurements of the linear polarization amplitudes and the strong relative phases that describe the flavor-untagged decays $B_{d}^{0}\to J/\psi K^{*0}$ and $B_{s}^{0}\to J/\psi\phi$ in the transversity basis. We also measure the mean lifetime $\bar{\tau}_{s}$ of the $B_{s}^{0}$ mass eigenstates and the lifetime ratio $\bar{\tau}_{s}/\tau_{d}$. The analyses are based on approximately 2.8 fb$^{-1}$ of data recorded with the D0 detector. From our measurements of the angular parameters we conclude that there is no evidence for a deviation from flavor SU(3) symmetry for these decays and that the factorization assumption is not valid for the $B_{d}^{0}\to J/\psi K^{*0}$ decay.

GW190521 as a Merger of Proca Stars: A Potential New Vector Boson of 8.7×10−13  eV

2021

Advanced LIGO-Virgo have reported a short gravitational-wave signal (GW190521) interpreted as a quasicircular merger of black holes, one at least populating the pair-instability supernova gap, that formed a remnant black hole of ${M}_{f}\ensuremath{\sim}142\text{ }\text{ }{M}_{\ensuremath{\bigodot}}$ at a luminosity distance of ${d}_{L}\ensuremath{\sim}5.3\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{Gpc}$. With barely visible pre-merger emission, however, GW190521 merits further investigation of the pre-merger dynamics and even of the very nature of the colliding objects. We show that GW190521 is consistent with numerically simulated signals from head-on collisions of two (equal mass and spin) horizonless vecto…

Impact parameter dependent JIMWLK evolution meets HERA data

2019

We calculate the small-$x$ evolution of protons with finite size by solving numerically the JIMWLK evolution equation. The initial condition is constrained by the HERA measurements of charm reduced cross section and of exclusive vector meson production. We compute the energy dependence of diffractive cross sections in order to access the energy evolution of the event-by-event fluctuating proton density profile. The fundamental problems arising from the regime sensitive to non-perturbatively large dipoles are also discussed.
