Toeplitz band matrices with small random perturbations
2021
We study the spectra of $N\times N$ Toeplitz band matrices perturbed by small complex Gaussian random matrices, in the regime $N\gg 1$. We prove a probabilistic Weyl law, which provides an precise asymptotic formula for the number of eigenvalues in certain domains, which may depend on $N$, with probability sub-exponentially (in $N$) close to $1$. We show that most eigenvalues of the perturbed Toeplitz matrix are at a distance of at most $\mathcal{O}(N^{-1+\varepsilon})$, for all $\varepsilon >0$, to the curve in the complex plane given by the symbol of the unperturbed Toeplitz matrix.
Functional renormalization group approach to the Kraichnan model.
2015
We study the anomalous scaling of the structure functions of a scalar field advected by a random Gaussian velocity field, the Kraichnan model, by means of Functional Renormalization Group techniques. We analyze the symmetries of the model and derive the leading correction to the structure functions considering the renormalization of composite operators and applying the operator product expansion.
Perturbed eigenvalue problems for the Robin p-Laplacian plus an indefinite potential
2020
AbstractWe consider a parametric nonlinear Robin problem driven by the negativep-Laplacian plus an indefinite potential. The equation can be thought as a perturbation of the usual eigenvalue problem. We consider the case where the perturbation$$f(z,\cdot )$$f(z,·)is$$(p-1)$$(p-1)-sublinear and then the case where it is$$(p-1)$$(p-1)-superlinear but without satisfying the Ambrosetti–Rabinowitz condition. We establish existence and uniqueness or multiplicity of positive solutions for certain admissible range for the parameter$$\lambda \in {\mathbb {R}}$$λ∈Rwhich we specify exactly in terms of principal eigenvalue of the differential operator.
Stabilization of the cohomology of thickenings
2016
For a local complete intersection subvariety $X=V({\mathcal I})$ in ${\mathbb P}^n$ over a field of characteristic zero, we show that, in cohomological degrees smaller than the codimension of the singular locus of $X$, the cohomology of vector bundles on the formal completion of ${\mathbb P}^n$ along $X$ can be effectively computed as the cohomology on any sufficiently high thickening $X_t=V({\mathcal I^t})$; the main ingredient here is a positivity result for the normal bundle of $X$. Furthermore, we show that the Kodaira vanishing theorem holds for all thickenings $X_t$ in the same range of cohomological degrees; this extends the known version of Kodaira vanishing on $X$, and the main new…
Multiple solutions for nonlinear nonhomogeneous resonant coercive problems
2018
We consider a nonlinear, nonhomogeneous Dirichlet problem driven by the sum of a \begin{document}$p$\end{document} -Laplacian ( \begin{document}$2 ) and a Laplacian. The reaction term is a Caratheodory function \begin{document}$f(z,x)$\end{document} which is resonant with respect to the principal eigenvalue of ( \begin{document}$-\Delta_p,\, W^{1,p}_0(\Omega)$\end{document} ). Using variational methods combined with truncation and comparison techniques and Morse theory (critical groups) we prove the existence of three nontrivial smooth solutions all with sign information and under three different conditions concerning the behavior of \begin{document}$f(z,\cdot)$\end{document} near zero. By …
A poincar-bendixson theorem for analytic families of vector fields
1995
We provide a characterization of the limit periodic sets for analytic families of vector fields under the hypothesis that the first jet is non-vanishing at any singular point. Also, applying the family desingularization method, we reduce the complexity of some of these sets.
Big Vector Bundles on Surfaces and Fourfolds
2019
The aim of this note is to exhibit explicit sufficient criteria ensuring bigness of globally generated, rank-$r$ vector bundles, $r \geqslant 2$, on smooth, projective varieties of even dimension $d \leqslant 4$. We also discuss connections of our general criteria to some recent results of other authors, as well as applications to tangent bundles of Fano varieties, to suitable Lazarsfeld-Mukai bundles on four-folds, etcetera.
Eigenvalues of non-hermitian matrices: a dynamical and an iterative approach. Application to a truncated Swanson model
2020
We propose two different strategies to find eigenvalues and eigenvectors of a given, not necessarily Hermitian, matrix (Formula presented.). Our methods apply also to the case of complex eigenvalues, making the strategies interesting for applications to physics and to pseudo-Hermitian quantum mechanics in particular. We first consider a dynamical approach, based on a pair of ordinary differential equations defined in terms of the matrix (Formula presented.) and of its adjoint (Formula presented.). Then, we consider an extension of the so-called power method, for which we prove a fixed point theorem for (Formula presented.) useful in the determination of the eigenvalues of (Formula presented…
A Note on States and Traces from Biorthogonal Sets
2019
In this paper, following Bagarello, Trapani, and myself, we generalize the Gibbs states and their related KMS-like conditions. We have assumed that H 0 , H are closed and, at least, densely defined, without giving information on the domain of these operators. The problem we address in this paper is therefore to find a dense domain D that allows us to generalize the states of Gibbs and take them in their natural environment i.e., defined in L &dagger
Optimal lower bounds for eigenvalues of linear and nonlinear Neumann problems
2013
In this paper we prove a sharp lower bound for the first non-trivial Neumann eigenvalue μ1(Ω) for the p-Laplace operator (p > 1) in a Lipschitz bounded domain Ω in ℝn. Our estimate does not require any convexity assumption on Ω and it involves the best isoperimetric constant relative to Ω. In a suitable class of convex planar domains, our bound turns out to be better than the one provided by the Payne—Weinberger inequality.
