Discrete Time Signal Processing Framework with Support Vector Machines

2007

Digital signal processing (DSP) of time series using SVM has been addressed in the literature with a straightforward application of the SVM kernel regression, but the assumption of independently distributed samples in regression models is not fulfilled by a time-series problem. Therefore, a new branch of SVM algorithms has to be developed for the advantageous application of SVM concepts when we process data with underlying time-series structure. In this chapter, we summarize our past, present, and future proposal for the SVM-DSP frame-work, which consists of several principles for creating linear and nonlinear SVM algorithms devoted to DSP problems. First, the statement of linear signal mod…

A novel soft-stall power control for a small wind turbine

2017

In this paper, the problem of Soft-stall power control design for a small wind turbine is considered. Passive stalling and furling methods are widely used to limit the output power of small wind turbines at above-rated wind speed conditions. However, these methods have substantial limitations, for instance, related to tracking the maximum power at some wind speed levels, limited variable speed operation and introducing unbalanced forces on wind turbine blades. Soft-stall power control is a promising technique to overcome above limitations and improve the performance of small wind turbines. Small wind turbines have a comparatively low moment of inertia value, and it is possible to make fast …

Lentiviral transduction of face and limb flaps: implications for immunomodulation of vascularized composite allografts.

2012

Background Ex vivo introduction of an immunomodulatory transgene into a face or hand allograft may improve the risk-to-benefit ratio of vascularized composite allografts. Abrogation of the immunogenicity of the skin component of a face or hand allograft may decrease alloreactivity and permit the induction of immunologic tolerance. Proof-of-principle demonstrations of transduction of composite tissue have been established using adenoviral vectors, producing transient gene expression. The authors hypothesized that transduction, integration, and long-term expression of transgenes in a vascularized composite allograft could be achieved using lentiviral vectors. Methods Ex vivo transduction of h…

Improving baculovirus transduction of mammalian cells by surface display of a RGD-motif

2006

An RGD-containing peptide, comprising 23 amino acids from the foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) VP1 protein was engineered into the envelope of Autographa californica nuclear polyhedrosis virus surface (AcNPV) using two different display strategies. The RGD-motif is a well-described tripeptide, that by binding to cell surface integrins facilitates virus entry into cells. This epitope was displayed, either by directly modifying the native major envelope protein gp64 of AcNPV, or by incorporating a second, modified version of gp64 onto the virus surface. Transduction efficiencies of four mammalian cell lines were compared by detecting the expression of the reporter gene green fluorescent pr…

Adiabatic evolution for systems with infinitely many eigenvalue crossings

1998

International audience; We formulate an adiabatic theorem adapted to models that present an instantaneous eigenvalue experiencing an infinite number of crossings with the rest of the spectrum. We give an upper bound on the leading correction terms with respect to the adiabatic limit. The result requires only differentiability of the considered projector, and some geometric hypothesis on the local behavior of the eigenvalues at the crossings.

Malaria resurgence risk in southern Europe: climate assessment in an historically endemic area of rice fields at the Mediterranean shore of Spain

2010

Abstract Background International travel and immigration have been related with an increase of imported malaria cases. This fact and climate change, prolonging the period favouring vector development, require an analysis of the malaria transmission resurgence risk in areas of southern Europe. Such a study is made for the first time in Spain. The Ebro Delta historically endemic area was selected due to its rice field landscape, the presence of only one vector, Anopheles atroparvus, with densities similar to those it presented when malaria was present, in a situation which pronouncedly differs from already assessed potential resurgence areas in other Mediterranean countries, such as France an…

Rapid, reproducible transduction of select forebrain regions by targeted recombinant virus injection into the neonatal mouse brain

2009

Viral vectors can mediate long-term gene expression in different regions of the brain. Recombinant adeno-associated virus (rAAV) and Lenti virus (LV) have both gained prominence due to their ability to achieve specific transduction of various neuronal populations. Whilst widespread gene delivery has been obtained by targeted injection of rAAV in various brain structures, LV has also been utilized for infection of stem cell populations for cell lineage tracing. Both viral vector systems are most commonly used for gene delivery in mature brains, but the great potential of somatic gene delivery into the neonate brain has not been systematically exploited. Here we provide a systematic guideline…

Rotavirus-Specific Cytotoxic T Lymphocytes Recognize Overlapping Epitopes in the Amino-Terminal Region of the VP7 Glycoprotein

1999

Abstract Rotavirus-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTL) play an important role in the resolution of rotavirus infection. The outer capsid glycoprotein, VP7, elicits a class I MHC-restricted CTL response. Vaccinia virus recombinants expressing the VP7 genes from simian rotavirus SA11 (serotype G3) and from the RF strain of bovine rotavirus (serotype G6) were used to analyze the CTL activity to this antigen in BALB/c (H-2 d ) and C57BL/6 (H-2 b ) mice neonatally infected with homologous and heterologous rotaviruses. A vaccinia virus recombinant expressing the first amino-terminal 88 amino acids of VP7 was constructed and used to search for cross-reactive CTL against this region of the prote…

Digital demodulation for fast set-up of sensorless PMSM electrical drives based on magnetic anisotropy

2009

This paper presents a demodulation algorithm applied to the sensorless control of permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM). The sensorless control technique reported in this paper is based on the injection of high frequency voltages to the stator so that the motor currents contain information on the rotor position. This information is then extracted by an appropriate demodulation technique. The presented demodulation algorithm is based on spectral analysis of the signal produced by the sensorless control technique because this is fully characterized and presents not ambiguous correlation between current harmonic content and rotor position. The most important feature of the demodulation al…

Securing AODV routing protocol against black hole attack in MANET using outlier detection scheme

2017

Imposing security in MANET is very challenging and hot topic of research science last two decades because of its wide applicability in applications like defense. Number of efforts has been made in this direction. But available security algorithms, methods, models and framework may not completely solve this problem. Motivated from various existing security methods and outlier detection, in this paper novel simple but efficient outlier detection scheme based security algorithm is proposed to protect the Ad hoc on demand distance vector (AODV) reactive routing protocol from Black hole attack in mobile ad hoc environment. Simulation results obtained from network simulator tool evident the simpl…
