New Similarity Rules for Mining Data
2006
Variability and noise in data-sets entries make hard the discover of important regularities among association rules in mining problems. The need exists for defining flexible and robust similarity measures between association rules. This paper introduces a new class of similarity functions, SF's, that can be used to discover properties in the feature space X and to perform their grouping with standard clustering techniques. Properties of the proposed SF's are investigated and experiments on simulated data-sets are also shown to evaluate the grouping performance.
The joint adverse effects of aged nanoscale plastic debris and their co-occurring benzo[α]pyrene in freshwater mussel (Anodonta anatina)
2021
Although the presence of small-scale plastics, including nanoscale plastic debris (NPD, size1 μm), is expected in the environment, our understanding of their potential uptake and biodistribution in organisms is still limited. This mostly is because of the limitations in analytical techniques to characterize NPD in organisms' bodies. Moreover, it is still debatable whether aged NPD can sorb and transfer chemicals into organisms. Here, we apply iron oxide-doped polystyrene nanoparticles (Fe-PS NPs) of 270 nm size to quantify the uptake and biodistribution of NPD in freshwater mussels (Anodonta anatina). The Fe-PS NPs were, first, oxidized using heat-activated potassium persulfate treatments t…
Geometric Singular Perturbation Theory Beyond Normal Hyperbolicity
2001
Geometric Singular Perturbation theory has traditionally dealt only with perturbation problems near normally hyperbolic manifolds of singularities. In this paper we want to show how blow up techniques can permit enlarging the applicability to non-normally hyperbolic points. We will present the method on well chosen examples in the plane and in 3-space.
Multiple Canard Cycles in Generalized Liénard Equations
2001
AbstractThe paper treats multiple limit cycle bifurcations in singular perturbation problems of planar vector fields. The results deal with any number of parameters. Proofs are based on the techniques introduced in “Canard Cycles and Center Manifolds” (F. Dumortier and R. Roussarie, 1996, Mem. Amer. Math. Soc., 121). The presentation is limited to generalized Liénard equations εx+α(x, c)x+β(x, c)=0.
Altered intracellular sorting signals do not influence the efficacy of genetic melanoma vaccines incorporating helper determinants in mice.
2004
Background A genetic melanoma vaccine consisting of cDNA encoding the model self-antigen tyrosinase-related protein 2 (TRP2) fused in-frame to the immunogenic enhanced green fluorescent protein (EGFP) was able to break immune tolerance and stimulate CD8+ T cells in vivo. In the present study we investigated whether alteration of the intracellular antigen localization as a result of the linkage with immune-enhancing helper proteins affects the resulting immune response. Methods Expression plasmids and recombinant adenoviruses were constructed encoding various fusion proteins with different intracellular sorting signals which direct the antigen to the cytosol, the endoplasmic reticulum or the…
Cyclicity of common slow–fast cycles
2011
Abstract We study the limit cycles of planar slow–fast vector fields, appearing near a given slow–fast cycle, formed by an arbitrary sequence of slow parts and fast parts, and where the slow parts can meet the fast parts in a nilpotent contact point of arbitrary order. Using the notion slow divergence integral, we delimit a large subclass of these slow–fast cycles out of which at most one limit cycle can perturb, and a smaller subclass out of which exactly one limit cycle will perturb. Though the focus lies on common slow–fast cycles, i.e. cycles with only attracting or only repelling slow parts, we present results that are valid for more general slow–fast cycles. We also provide examples o…
A beam finite element for magneto-electro-elastic multilayered composite structures
2012
Abstract A new finite element based upon an elastic equivalent single-layer model for shear deformable and straight magneto-electro-elastic generally laminated beam is presented. The element has six degrees of freedom represented by the displacement components and the cross-section rotation of its two nodes. The magneto-electric boundary conditions enter the discrete problem as work-equivalent forces and moments while the electro-magnetic state characterization constitutes a post-processing step. The element possesses the superconvergence property for the static problem of beams with uniform cross-section and homogenous material properties along the beam axis direction. Moreover, it is free…
Interactions related to non-host snails in the host-finding process of Euparyphium albuferensis and Echinostoma friedi (Trematoda: Echinostomatidae) …
2003
In order to determine whether the miracidia of Euparyphium albuferensis and Echinostoma friedi are sensitive to their host snail (HS) and capable of discriminating between HS and non-host snails (NHS), or whether these NHS can interfere and thus reduce the infection rates (decoy effect), a total of three experiments were conducted with HS, NHS and snail-conditioned water (SCW). Gyraulus chinensis is the HS for E. albuferensis miracidia, while Physa acuta, Radix peregra and Lymnaea fuscus are considered NHS. For E. friedi miracidia R. peregra, G. chinensis and L. fuscus are the HS, while P. acuta is the NHS. The NHS R. peregra produces the greatest decoy effect on Euparyphium albuferensis mi…
Isotropic stochastic flow of homeomorphisms on Sd for the critical Sobolev exponent
2006
Abstract In this work, we shall deal with the critical Sobolev isotropic Brownian flows on the sphere S d . Based on previous works by O. Raimond and LeJan and Raimond (see [O. Raimond, Ann. Inst. H. Poincare 35 (1999) 313–354] and [Y. LeJan, O. Raimond, Ann. of Prob. 30 (2002) 826–873], we prove that the associated flows are flows of homeomorphisms.

2014
We give an essentially sharp estimate in terms of generalized Hausdorff measures for images of porous sets under monotone Sobolev mappings, satisfying suitable Orlicz-Sobolev conditions.
