Some families of big and stable bundles on $K3$ surfaces and on their Hilbert schemes of points

Here we investigate meaningful families of vector bundles on a very general polarized $K3$ surface $(X,H)$ and on the corresponding Hyper--Kaehler variety given by the Hilbert scheme of points $X^{[k]}:= {\rm Hilb}^k(X)$, for any integer $k \geqslant 2$. In particular, we prove results concerning bigness and stability of such bundles. First, we give conditions on integers $n$ such that the twist of the tangent bundle of $X$ by the line bundle $nH$ is big and stable on~$X$; we then prove a similar result for a natural twist of the tangent bundle of $X^{[k]}$. Crohn’s disease (CD) is a chronic inflammatory condition of the gastrointestinal tract that can highly alter patient’s quality of life. Diagnostic imaging, such as Enterography Magnetic Resonance Imaging (E-MRI), provides crucial information for CD activity assessment. Automatic learning methods play a fundamental role in the classification of CD and allow to avoid the long and expensive manual classification process by radiologists. Efficacy of recombinant adenovirus as vector for allergen gene therapy in a mouse model of type I allergy

DNA-based immunization represents an attractive alternative approach to the current treatment of allergic diseases by specific immunotherapy with allergen extracts. In this study, we used a replication-deficient adenovirus vector (AdCMV), to examine the in vivo efficacy of preventive and therapeutic genetic immunization in a mouse model of type I allergy. Primary immunization with a recombinant adenovirus expressing the model antigen beta-galactosidase (AdCMV-(beta)gal) induced a Th1 immune response (predominance of IgG2a antibodies, high frequency of IFN-gamma producing T cells) and large numbers of cytotoxic T lymphocytes. Hyperspectral Texture Metrology Based on Joint Probability of Spectral and Spatial Distribution

A theorem of Łojasiewicz asserts that any relatively compact solution of a real analytic gradient vector field has finite length. We show here a generalization of this result for relatively compact solutions of an analytic vector field X with a smooth invariant hypersurface, transversally hyperbolic for X, where the restriction of the field is a gradient. This solves some instances of R. Thom's Gradient Conjecture. Furthermore, if the dimension of the ambient space is three, these solutions do not oscillate (in the sense that they cut an analytic set only finitely many times); this can also be applied to some gradient vector fields.

In order to consider the modified seismic response of framed structures in the presence of masonry infills, proper models have to be formulated. Because of the complexity of the problem, a careful definition of an equivalent diagonal pin-jointed strut, able to represent the horizontal force-interstorey displacement cyclic law of the actual infill, may be a solution. Mutilation of RNA phage Qβ virus-like particles: from icosahedrons to rods

Icosahedral virus-like particles (VLPs) of RNA phage Qbeta are stabilized by four disulfide bonds of cysteine residues 74 and 80 within the loop between beta-strands F and G (FG loop) of the monomeric subunits, which determine the five-fold and quasi-six-fold symmetry contacts of the VLPs. In order to reduce the stability of Qbeta VLPs, we mutationally converted the amino acid stretch 76-ANGSCD-81 within the FG loop into the 76-VGGVEL-81 sequence. It led to production in Escherichia coli cells of aberrant rod-like Qbeta VLPs, along with normal icosahedral capsids. The length of the rod-like particles exceeded 4-30 times the diameter of icosahedral Qbeta VLPs.

Fay's identity on Riemann surfaces is a powerful tool in the context of algebro-geometric solutions to integrable equations. This relation generalizes a well-known identity for the cross-ratio function in the complex plane. It allows to establish relations between theta functions and their derivatives. This offers a complementary approach to algebro-geometric solutions of integrable equations with certain advantages with respect to the use of Baker-Akhiezer functions. Learning the relevant image features with multiple kernels

This paper proposes to learn the relevant features of remote sensing images for automatic spatio-spectral classification with the automatic optimization of multiple kernels. The method consists of building dedicated kernels for different sets of bands, contextual or textural features. The optimal linear combination of kernels is optimized through gradient descent on the support vector machine (SVM) objective function.
