Essential oils from three Algerian medicinal plants (Artemisia campestris, Pulicaria arabica, and Saccocalyx satureioides) as new botanical insectici…

2020

Medicinal and aromatic plants represent an outstanding source of green active ingredients for a broad range of real-world applications. In the present study, we investigated the insecticidal potential of the essential oils obtained from three medicinal and aromatic plants of economic importance in Algeria, Artemisia campestris, Pulicaria arabica, and Saccocalyx satureioides. Gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC-MS) was used to study the essential oil chemical compositions. The three essential oils were tested against a mosquito vectoring filariasis and arboviruses, i.e., Culex quinquefasciatus, a fly pest acting also as pathogens vector, Musca domestica, and an agricultural…

Encapsulation of the Bacillus thuringiensis secretable toxins Vip3Aa and Cry1Ia in Pseudomonas fluorescens

2013

Vip3A and Cry1I toxins are secreted during the vegetative growth of Bacillus thuringiensis. Vip3A toxins do not share homology to the crystal (Cry) proteins and are active against a different spectrum of lepidopteran species. Cry1I toxins share similarity with the Cry1 protein group but do not accumulate in the parasporal crystal. Since Vip3A and Cry1I toxins are released from the cell, they are excluded from biological formulates based on spores and crystals of B. thuringiensis. As an approach to obtain novel sprayable insecticides containing Vip3 or Cry1I toxins, Vip3Aa and Cry1Ia proteins were expressed in Pseudomonas fluorescens. This bacterium, non-pathogenic to animals or plants, can …

Pilot study on the combination of an organophosphate-based insecticide paint and pyrethroid-treated long lasting nets against pyrethroid resistant ma…

2015

International audience; A pilot study to test the efficacy of combining an organophosphate-based insecticide paint and pyrethroid-treated Long Lasting Insecticide Treated Nets (LLINs) against pyrethroid-resistant malaria vector mosquitoes was performed in a real village setting in Burkina Faso. Paint Inesfly 5A IGR™, comprised of two organophosphates (OPs) and an Insect Growth Regulator (IGR), was tested in combination with pyrethroid-treated LLINs. Efficacy was assessed in terms of mortality for 12 months using Early Morning Collections of malaria vectors and 30-minute WHO bioassays. Resistance to pyrethroids and OPs was assessed by detecting the frequency of L1014F and L1014S kdr mutation…

LightSpMV: Faster CSR-based sparse matrix-vector multiplication on CUDA-enabled GPUs

2015

Compressed sparse row (CSR) is a frequently used format for sparse matrix storage. However, the state-of-the-art CSR-based sparse matrix-vector multiplication (SpMV) implementations on CUDA-enabled GPUs do not exhibit very high efficiency. This has motivated the development of some alternative storage formats for GPU computing. Unfortunately, these alternatives are incompatible with most CPU-centric programs and require dynamic conversion from CSR at runtime, thus incurring significant computational and storage overheads. We present LightSpMV, a novel CUDA-compatible SpMV algorithm using the standard CSR format, which achieves high speed by benefiting from the fine-grained dynamic distribut…

Bit-Parallel Approximate Pattern Matching on the Xeon Phi Coprocessor

2014

Bit-parallel pattern matching encodes calculated values in bit arrays. This approach gains its efficiency by performing multiple updates within a machine word. An important parameter is therefore the machine word size (e.g. 32 or 64 bits). With the increasing length of vector registers, the efficient mapping of bit-parallel pattern matching algorithms onto modern high performance computing architectures is becoming increasingly important. In this paper, we investigate an efficient implementation of the Wu-Manber approximate pattern matching algorithm on the Intel Xeon Phi coprocessor. This architecture features a 512-bit long vector processing unit (VPU) as well as a large number of process…

A family of complex potentials with real spectrum

1999

We consider a two-parameter non-Hermitian quantum mechanical Hamiltonian operator that is invariant under the combined effects of parity and time reversal transformations. Numerical investigation shows that for some values of the potential parameters the Hamiltonian operator supports real eigenvalues and localized eigenfunctions. In contrast with other parity times time reversal symmetric models which require special integration paths in the complex plane, our model is integrable along a line parallel to the real axis.

Rationally integrable vector fields and rational additive group actions

2016

International audience; We characterize rational actions of the additive group on algebraic varieties defined over a field of characteristic zero in terms of a suitable integrability property of their associated velocity vector fields. This extends the classical correspondence between regular actions of the additive group on affine algebraic varieties and the so-called locally nilpotent derivations of their coordinate rings. Our results lead in particular to a complete characterization of regular additive group actions on semi-affine varieties in terms of their associated vector fields. Among other applications, we review properties of the rational counterpart of the Makar-Limanov invariant…

Head Tracking Three-Dimensional Integral Imaging Display Using Smart Pseudoscopic-to-Orthoscopic Conversion

2016

A novel head tracking three-dimensional (3D) integral imaging display is presented. By means of proper application of the smart pseudoscopic-to-orthoscopic conversion (SPOC) method, our display allows an extended viewing angle accommodated to the viewer's position which is obtained by a head/eye tracking system. Using the SPOC, new sets of elemental images are calculated and adapted to any specific viewing position. Additionally, the crosstalk which is typical in conventional integral imaging, is eliminated for a large viewing angle. By performing the rotation transformation in the simulated display, viewing a 3D scene with head rotation can be realized for robust display. Experimental resu…

An Experimental Testbed and Methodology for Characterizing IEEE 802.11 Network Cards

2006

It has been observed that IEEE 802.11 commercial cards produced by different vendors show a different behavior in terms of perceived throughput or access delay. Performance differences are evident both when the cards contend alone to the channel, and when heterogeneous cards contend together. Since the performance misalignment does not disappear by averaging the environmental factors (such as propagation conditions, laptop models, traffic generators, etc), it is evident that the well known throughput-fairness property of the DCF protocol is not guaranteed in actual networks. In this paper we propose a methodological approach devised to experimentally characterize the IEEE 802.11 commercial …
