Aquest treball ofereix una descripció de conjunt dels fenòmens de versificació que presenten tres textos de Ramon Llull: Pecat d’Adam, l’opuscle D’oració (cinquena part de la Medicina de pecat) i l’Aplicació de l’Art general. La tria respon a un doble criteri: tots tres textos són escrits en el mateix esquema de versificació (noves rimades) i de tots tres se’n conserven còpies manuscrites fetes per un mateix copista, Guillem Pagès. Aquest treball analitza les descripcions de la llengua catalana que feren els viatgers que van recórrer els Països Catalans i, especialment, el País Valencià al llarg del primer terç del segle XIX. En aquest treball, analitzem la subclasse de verbs incoatius del català, pertanyent a la tercera conjugació, aplicant el concepte d’exaptació (Lass 1990), que serveix per a explicar canvis que consisteixen en la reutilització de material morfològic no funcional: en els verbs incoatius, el procés d’exaptació consisteix en el reciclatge d’un afix lèxic com a increment del radical quan perd el valor semàntic inicial de ‘canvi d’estat’ i queda relegat a certs verbs de la tercera conjugació. Aquesta reutilització funcional comporta l’aparició d’una subclasse de verbs dins de la tercera conjugació que, a causa de la seua estabilitat, ha esdevingut el model flexiu majoritari d’aquesta conjugació. …

In the last decades, full inversion constructions in which the subject follows the entire verb phrase in a declarative clause, as in"Beside him was a table full of well-known books", have been the subject of extensive research from a functional perspective. This paper is a further contribution to this line of research and offers a corpus-based analysis of a particular type of full inversion, namely verb phrase inversion (for example,"Standing grim and alone was the hulking eyesore of the territorial prison"), in written English texts. Lexical classes and constructions: an analysis of the constructional realization of entity-specific change-of-state English verbs

This study analyzes a so far neglected part of the constructional behavior of Levin's (1993) entity-specific change-of-state verbs. More specifically, we discuss the integration of verbs from this lexical class into the intransitive-resultative construction. We base our analysis on the Lexical Constructional Model or LCM (Ruiz de Mendoza and Mairal 2008, 2011; Mairal and Ruiz de Mendoza 2009; Ruiz de Mendoza 2013). It will be shown that the internal and external constraints postulated by the LCM constitute useful explanatory and analytical tools for the fusion processes between these verbs and the intransitive-resultative construction. This seven-year longitudinal study examined how children’s spontaneous focusing on numerosity (SFON), subitizing based enumeration, and counting skills assessed at five or six years predict their school mathematics achievement at 12 years. The participants were 36 Finnish children without diagnosed neurological disorders. The results, based on partial least squares modeling, demonstrate that SFON and verbal counting skills before school age predict mathematical performance on a standardized test for typical school mathematics in Grade 5. This study examined whether counting and rapid automatized naming (RAN) could operate as significant predictors of both later arithmetic calculation and reading fluency. The authors also took an important step to clarify the cognitive mechanisms underlying these predictive relationships by controlling for the effect of phonological awareness and verbal short-term memory. Due to rather strong covariance between verbal short-term memory and phonological awareness, short-term memory could be controlled only partially. Abstract Brain-predicted age difference scores are calculated by subtracting chronological age from ‘brain’ age. Positive scores reflect accelerated ageing and are associated with increased mortality risk and poorer physical function. To date, however, the relationship between brain-predicted age difference scores and specific cognitive functions has not been systematically examined.
