Understanding the microbiological and physicochemical influence of alperujo vermicompost on diuron behaviour and soil quality
2009
Vermicompost as soil organic amendment increase the yield crops because improve the soil structure, the water retention capacity, the microbial biodiversity and thereby its metabolic activity. Vermicompost is also thought to reduce the pesticide pollution. The vermicompost selected was composed of “alperujo” which is largest organic residue in olive oil production. Agricultural soil was 5% amended twice and incubated for 3 months. A 3µg g-1 agricultural dosage of Diuron was applied to amended and unamended soils. The effect of alperujo vermicompost on dehydrogenase activity, the biodiversity and estimated bacterial density, the density of protocathechuate-degrading bacterial community and d…
Review on Physiological Effects of Vermicomposts on Plants
2020
Vermicompost is a type of organic fertilizer produced by earthworms and their symbiotic microorganisms. In addition to nutrient-rich organic fraction, vermicomposts also contain plant-available soluble minerals as well as substances with plant growth-regulating activity. In order to promote understanding on beneficial effects of vermicompost in different farming systems, the aim of the present review is to analyze possible mechanisms of vermicompost action on plants. After overview of plant growth-affecting activity of vermicomposts at the level of seed germination and vegetative growth, detailed analysis is dedicated to physiological effects associated with mineral nutrition: changes in bo…
THE INFLUENCE OF RED WORMS (E. FOETIDA) ON COMPOST’S FERTILIZING PROPERTIES
2014
Composting is becoming a more and more common way of biodegradable waste disposal. Composts should be characterized by high content of nutrients and low amount of pollutants. Vermicompost is a compost produced by overpopulated culture of earthworm Eisenia foetida (Savigny 1826). World scientific literature states that vermicompost has a high fertilizing value which often exceeds such value of conventional composts. The results showed that vermicompost has a much higher fertilizing value than the compost produced by the traditional pile method. However, prism vermicompost created with the participation of a less concentrated population of earthworms has an intermediate value as a fertilizer …
