A secret sharing scheme for anonymous DNS queries
2013
Since its adoption in the early 90's, several privacy concerns have emerged about the Domain Name System (DNS). By collecting the DNS queries performed by each user, it is possible to characterize habits, interests and other sensitive data of the users. Usually, users resolve their {\em url} requests by querying the DSN server belonging to their Internet Service Provider (ISP) and therefore they assume they can trust it. However, different DNS servers can be used, by revealing sensitive data to a partially untrusted entity that can collect and sell this data for several purposes (target advertising, user profiling, etc.). In this paper we address the possibility to integrate tools in the cu…
Tuning of QoS Aware Load Balancing Algorithm (QoS–LB) for Highly Loaded Server Clusters
2001
This paper introduces a novel algorithm for content based switching. A content based scheduling algorithm (QoS Aware Load Balancing Algorithm, QoS-LB) which can be used at the front-end of the server cluster is presented. The front-end switch uses the content information of the requests and the load on the back servers to choose the server to handle each request. At the same time, different Quality of Service (QoS) classes of the customers can be considered as one parameter in the load balancing algorithm. This novel feature becomes more important when service providers begin to offer the same services for customers with different priorities.
Energy Efficiency Evaluation of Cellular Networks Based on Spatial Distributions of Traffic Load and Power Consumption
2013
Energy efficiency has gained its significance when service providers' operational costs burden with the rapidly growing data traffic demand in cellular networks. In this paper, we propose an energy efficiency model for Poisson-Voronoi tessellation (PVT) cellular networks considering spatial distributions of traffic load and power consumption. The spatial distributions of traffic load and power consumption are derived for a typical PVT cell, and can be directly extended to the whole PVT cellular network based on the Palm theory. Furthermore, the energy efficiency of PVT cellular networks is evaluated by taking into account traffic load characteristics, wireless channel effects and interferen…

Probabilistic Fuzzy Approach to Evaluation of Logistics Service Effectiveness
2014
Received: 9 September 2014 Abstract Accepted: 11 October 2014 Logistics service providers offer a whole or partial logistics business service over a certain time period. Between such companies, the effectiveness of specific logistics services can vary. Logistics service providers seek the effective performance of logistics service. The purpose of this paper is to present a new approach for the evaluation of logistics service effectiveness, along with a specific computer system implementing the proposed approach – a sophisticated inference system, an extension of the Mamdani probabilistic fuzzy system. The paper presents specific knowledge concerning the relationships between effectiveness i…
Carte di pagamento con funzione contactless, uso non autorizzato e responsabilità dei prestatori di servizi di pagamento
2021
The essay addresses the topic of technological evolution in the payment system, focusing on the figure of contactless payment cards and the issue of unauthorized use by the holder. Having defined the discipline of payment instruments and the liability regime of payment service providers under the PSD2, the contribution examines the decision of the ECJ in the Deniz Bank case. It makes some critical remarks with respect to the methodological approach of the Court, marked by an unjustified interpretative formalism and li le inclined to an exegesis based on the parameter of efficiency, according to the models offered by Economic Analysis of Law.
Mobile Banking and Payment System : A Conceptual Standpoint
2017
This study conceptualizes and proposes a well-regulated and designated mobile banking and payment system (MBPS) with the potential to strengthen the banking system, foster the regulatory framework, and to be integrated across various platforms and mobile devices. Unlike other mobile payment systems that lack convenience, scalability, and usability, the proposed MBPS contains several important functionalities and it has the potential to bring together hitherto unconnected industries—banking, Fintech and telecoms—to offer value-added services to their existing and potential customers. The ownership of the MBPS shall remain with the financial services sector including the banking and microfina…
A topological current divider
2020
We study the transport properties of a hybrid junction made of a ferromagnetic lead in electrical connection with the helical edge modes of a two-dimensional topological insulator. In this system, the time reversal symmetry, which characterizes the ballistic edge modes of the topological insulator, is explicitly broken inside the ferromagnetic region. This conflict situation generates unusual transport phenomena at the interface which are the manifestation of the interplay between the spin polarization of the injected current and the spin-momentum locking mechanism operating inside the topological insulator. We show that the spin polarized current originated in the ferromagnetic region is a…
A battery-based, low-noise voltage source.
2010
A highly stable, low-noise voltage source was designed to improve the stability of the electrode bias voltages of a Penning trap. To avoid excess noise and ground loops, the voltage source is completely independent of the public electric network and uses a 12 V car battery to generate output voltages of +/-15 and +/-5 V. First, the dc supply voltage is converted into ac-voltage and gets amplified. Afterwards, the signal is rectified, filtered, and regulated to the desired output value. Each channel can deliver up to 1.5 A. The current as well as the battery voltage and the output voltages can be read out via a universal serial bus (USB) connection for monitoring purposes. With the presented…
Calibration of the ISOLDE acceleration voltage using a high-precision voltage divider and applying collinear fast beam laser spectroscopy
2011
A high-voltage divider with accuracy at the ppm level and collinear laser spectroscopy were used to calibrate the highvoltage installation at the radioactive ion beam facility ISOLDE at CERN. The accurate knowledge of this voltage is particularly important for collinear laser spectroscopy measurements. Beam velocity measurements using frequencycomb based collinear laser spectroscopy agree with the new calibration. Applying this, one obtains consistent results for isotope shifts of stable magnesium isotopes measured using collinear spectroscopy and laser spectroscopy on laser-cooled ions in a trap. The long-term stability and the transient behavior during recovery from a voltage dropout were…
