Abstract A new and simple method is developed to efficiently quantify erosion and deposition rates based on stock unearthing measurements. This is applicable to spatial scales ranging from plot to hillslopes, and to time scales ranging from single hydrologic events to centennial scales. The method is applied to a plot area on vineyard hillslopes in Burgundy (Monthelie, France), with measurement of 4328 vine plants. A sediment budget established at the plot scale shows a mean soil lowering of 3.44 ± 1 cm over 20 years, involving a minimal erosion rate of 1.7 ± 0.5 mm yr − 1 . This chapter reviews the literature on semiochemical-parasitoid systems in perennial crops. The first part of the chapter analyses the possible effects of pheromone-based tactics on parasitoid efficacy. In both orchards and vineyards, the most successful application of synthetic sex pheromones has been their use as mating disruptants. It also discusses the possibility of using parasitoid pheromones to directly affect parasitoid behaviour. This contribution illustrates the history of the vineyard in Champagne in interaction with the invention of sparkling wines in an area of ancient viticulture. The socio-geographical configuration of this vineyard progressively changed, associating crises and expansions, at the end of which emerges in the twentieth century a vineyard very different from that existing in the early eighteenth century, when the sparkling wine was invented in the Champagne region. Two neighbouring natural populations of Drosophila melanogaster have been analysed, one from a cellar habitat and the other from a vineyard outside. An extensive study of inversion polymorphism in the two populations has been carried out. Furthermore, the relationship between inversion polymorphism and the viability of the second chromosome has been studied. The data regarding the total frequency of inversion-carrying chromosomes indicate a lower frequency in the cellar population than in the vineyard population. Evapotranspiration (ET) is a variable of the climatic system and hydrological cycle that plays an important role in biosphere–atmosphere–hydrosphere interactions. In this paper, remote sensing-based ET estimates with the simplified surface energy balance index (S-SEBI) model using Landsat 8 data were compared with in situ lysimeter measurements for different land covers (Grass, Wheat, Barley, and Vineyard) at the Barrax site, Spain, for the period 2014–2018. Daily estimates produced superior performance than hourly estimates in all the land covers, with an average difference of 12% and 15% for daily and hourly ET estimates, respectively.
