Vacuum Induced CP Violation Generating a Complex CKM Matrix with Controlled Scalar FCNC

We propose a viable minimal model with spontaneous CP violation in the framework of a two Higgs doublet model. The model is based on a generalised Branco–Grimus–Lavoura model with a flavoured Z2 symmetry, under which two of the quark families are even and the third one is odd. The lagrangian respects CP invariance, but the vacuum has a CP violating phase, which is able to generate a complex CKM matrix, with the rephasing invariant strength of CP violation compatible with experiment. The question of scalar mediated flavour changing neutral couplings is carefully studied. Direct CP violation in ${K^0\to\pi\pi}$ : Standard Model Status

In 1988 the NA31 experiment presented the first evidence of direct CP violation in the $K^0\to\pi\pi$ decay amplitudes. A clear signal with a $7.2\,\sigma$ statistical significance was later established with the full data samples from the NA31, E731, NA48 and KTeV experiments, confirming that CP violation is associated with a $\Delta S=1$ quark transition, as predicted by the Standard Model. However, the theoretical prediction for the measured ratio $\varepsilon'/\varepsilon$ has been a subject of strong controversy along the years. Two-loop gluino corrections to the inclusive decayB→Xsγin theCPviolating MSSM with largetanβ

We investigate two-loop gluino corrections to the effective Lagrangian for b{yields}s+{gamma}(g) in the minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model (MSSM) at large tan{beta}, including the contributions in which quark flavor change is mediated by charginos. Using the translation invariance of loop momenta and the Ward-Takahashi identities that are required by the SU(3){sub c}xU(1){sub em} gauge invariance, we simplify our expressions to concise forms. As an example, we discuss two-loop gluino corrections to the CP asymmetry of inclusive B{yields}X{sub s}{gamma} decay in CP violating MSSM.

Anticipating the higher generations of quarks from rephasing invariance of the mixing matrix

Abstract We show that the number of invariant CP violating parameters X CP jumps from the unique universal one in three generations to nine in the four-generation case, saturating the parameter space for generation numbers higher than three. This can lead to drastically different consequences in CP -violating phenomena. We give the quark mass matrices in the three-generation case and speculate for higher generations. We also give some invariant definitions of “maximal” CP violation.

Confronting hadronic tau decays with non-leptonic kaon decays

In the chiral limit, the $D=6$ contribution to the Operator Product Expansion (OPE) of the $\mathrm{VV-AA}$ correlator of quark currents only depends on two vacuum condensates, which can be related to hadronic matrix elements associated to CP violation in non-leptonic kaon decays. We use those relations to determine $\langle(\pi\pi)_{I=2}|\mathcal{Q}_{8}|K\rangle$, using the updated ALEPH spectral functions. Alternatively, we use those relations in the opposite direction. Taking the values of the matrix elements from the lattice to obtain the $D=6$ vacuum elements provides a new short-distance constraint which allows for an inclusive determination of $f_{\pi}$ and an updated value for the $…

D–D¯ mixing and new physics: General considerations and constraints on the MSSM

Abstract Combining the recent experimental evidence of D – D ¯ mixing, we extract model-independent information on the mixing amplitude and on its CP-violating phase. Using this information, we present new constraints on the flavour structure of up-type squark mass matrices in supersymmetric extensions of the Standard Model.

NO nu A plus T2K: The race for the neutrino mass hierarchy

The determination of the ordering of the neutrino masses (the hierarchy) is probably a crucial prerequisite to understand the origin of lepton masses and mixings and to establish their relationship to the analogous properties in the quark sector. Here, we follow an alternative strategy to the usual neutrino--antineutrino comparison in long baseline neutrino oscillation experiments: we exploit the combination of the neutrino-only data from the NOvA and the T2K experiments by performing these two off-axis experiments at different distances but at the same $/L$, where $$ is the mean neutrino energy and $L$ is the baseline. Standard Model CP-violation and Baryon asymmetry

Simply based on CP arguments, we argue against a Standard Model explanation of the baryon asymmetry of the universe in the presence of a first order phase transition. A CP-asymmetry is found in the reflection coefficients of quarks hitting the phase boundary created during the electroweak transition. The problem is analyzed both in an academic zero temperature case and in the realistic finite temperature one. The building blocks are similar in both cases: Kobayashi-Maskawa CP-violation, CP-even phases in the reflection coefficients of quarks, and physical transitions due to fermion self-energies. Weak Mixing, CP Violation and Rare Decays

This review summarizes experimental information on weak couplings of quark flavours from weak decays and weak production of heavy flavours and the relation of the observed direct CP violation to a non-trivial phase in the quark mixing matrix. The interest in this field is twofold: on the one side, we can measure precisely the parameters of the standard model in its own framework; on the other side, any inconsistency amongst these measurements or evidence for any process forbidden in the standard model will lead beyond that model.
