Male violence against women: Integration between psychological and neuroscientific data and their use in forensic evaluation for the judgments
2020
Human growth and development, starting from conception, are characterized by a progressive increase in body and organ dimensions, as well as specific functional maturity, under the influence of genetic as well as environmental and epigenetic determinants. Beyond a possible normal familial trait, increased fetal growth resulting in a large for gestational age newborn, isolated macrosomia or that associated with congenital malformation, can be attributable to both maternal metabolic and genetic pathology. Overgrowth syndromes are a heterogeneous group of diseases characterized by excessive tissue development often concomitant to neurodevelopmental involvement. Recently, an increased risk of f…
Representations of war in francophone literary space : the cas of the Horn of Africa
2017
The war is an experience that, by its commotion, condemned to unspeakable. It forces writers to define the relationship they have with the language they practices when it does not metamorphose themselves. It is this sense that need dealing with the range of transgressions at work in the war story which, through formal and language disorders distortions that contribute to its development, inaugurates writing that escapes definitions categorizations. Instead of reporting on the disaster, the literary imagination is in an external object, searching the paradoxical experience aestheticisation a priori ineffable a way around the impotence of language to express the inexpressible. Nevertheless, h…

Significati, ruoli e simboli nella partecipazione attiva di giovani organizzati in bande, gang e gruppi violenti
2021
The youth gangs are groups of young people who find commonality in the same values and cultural models that oppose the norms of society. The acts of violence perpetrated against the community, most often gratuitously, by groups of more or less structured young people, are an expression of actions that push away the goal of peace, most often a not shared objective. The motivations behind the decision to join gangs are diverse. They can range from sharing a model based on the use of violence, to the assimilation of aggressive and oppositional attitudes towards the native society, to the adoption of illegal behaviour also typical of criminal organisations. Over time, the groups, called in diff…
Does country-level gender equality explain individual risk of intimate partner violence against women? A multilevel analysis of individual heterogene…
2019
Abstract Background Gender equality is widely accepted as an important explanatory factor for the occurrence of intimate partner violence (IPV) against women. However, the relationship is not straightforward, as high country-level gender equality is not always associated with lower IPV prevalence. We apply ‘multilevel analysis of individual heterogeneity and discriminatory accuracy’ (MAIHDA) to (i) quantify the extent to which the country of residence determines individual risk of IPV and (ii) investigate the association between country-level gender equality and individual experience of IPV, and to which extent this association explains the observed between-country differences. Methods Usin…
Framing Social Work Discourses of Violence Against Women. Insights From Finland and India
2021
Violence against women (VAW) is a global social problem. In India, its high prevalence is connected to gender inequality, whereas Finland suffers from the so-called Nordic Paradox—that is, the existence of both gender equality and a high prevalence of VAW. This qualitative study employed a critical constructioniist approach and frame analysis to analyze data from interviews with Finnish (n =20) and Mumbai (n =18) social workers. We asked how social workers frame their response to VAW and how ways of framing elucidate institutional practices that facilitate the interventions. Anti-oppressive, juridical, procedural, and collaborational frames revealed institutional practices mirroring how soc…

Gender violence in migration: Voices of migrant women in Sicily
2015
Migrant women constitute a growing reality in Italy, also with reference to violence among family members. In particular, violence endured by the foreign female takes on a character of ‘dual violence,’ the violence experienced within the relationship is supplemented by the violence from the social context, which often isolates her, or even expels her following her ‘coming out into the open.’ The article presents extensive reflections emerging from the results of research carried out in 2012 in Sicily, aiming to explore the experience and perception of family violence and the possible influence of the migratory experience on changes in the forms and implications of family violence. The refle…
