Metaverse beyond the hype: Multidisciplinary perspectives on emerging challenges, opportunities, and agenda for research, practice and policy
2022
FNEGE 3, HCERES A, ABS 2; International audience; The metaverse has the potential to extend the physical world using augmented and virtual reality technologies allowing users to seamlessly interact within real and simulated environments using avatars and holograms. Virtual environments and immersive games (such as, Second Life, Fortnite, Roblox and VRChat) have been described as antecedents of the metaverse and offer some insight to the potential socio-economic impact of a fully functional persistent cross platform metaverse. Separating the hype and “meta…” rebranding from current reality is difficult, as “big tech” paints a picture of the transformative nature of the metaverse and how it w…
Chromostereopsis in "virtual reality" adapters with electrically tuneable liquid lens oculars
2016
Chromostereopsis can be sight and feel in “Virtual Reality” adapters, that induces the appearance of color dependant depth sense and, finally, combines this sense with the source conceived depth scenario. Present studies are devoted to investigation the induced chromastereopsis when using adapted “Virtual Reality” frame together with mobile devices as smartphones. We did observation of composite visual stimuli presented on the high spatial resolution screen of the mobile phone placed inside a portable “Virtual Reality” adapter. Separated for the left and right eyes stimuli consisted of two areas: a) identical for both eyes color chromostereopsis part, and b) additional conventional color ne…

Definition of a Workflow for Web Browsing of 3D Models in Archaeology
2016
The Cultural Heritage (CH) is a fundamental element of promotion of territories and of tourism development. Publishing 3D models of archaeological sites and their three-dimensional reconstruction on the Web is one of the best ways to spread their knowledge. However, many recent scientific researches in this field have highlighted the limitations and difficulties related to the networking of interactive 3D models. The main difficulties are related to the complexity and the size of models, which influence the access speed, and the cost of software and hardware needed for the publication on the WEB. In light of this background, this article describes the further advances of research activities…
Virtual reality as a recovering environment - Implications for design principles
2020
In this study, a simulated, VR-based environment was built and analyzed to explore if a VR environment can possess recovering effects. 61 university students tested a VR application depicting a forest and answered survey questions about the experience. The results showed that VR-environment can indeed have recovering effects. Moreover, when comparing to previous studies in real forests, the recovery effects were at similar levels. The study results suggest that as the VR-based environments can possess recovery effects, they can work as recovery environments at schools or similar environments. The study results offer implications for the designers and propose design principles to build recov…
Interaction peripheral device capable of controlling an element for touching and grasping multidimensional virtual objects
2015
An interaction peripheral device capable of controlling an element for touching and grasping multidimensional virtual objects, including at least two interaction modules, each interaction module being intended to be actuated by a finger of an operator and including a control sensor allowing control of displacement, according to a predetermined number of degrees of freedom, of a portion of the element for touching and grasping virtual objects by bending/extending and/or adduction/abduction displacement of the finger of the operator, and a vibrator able to emit a vibration upon touching and/or letting go of a virtual object by a portion of said element for touching and grasping virtual object…
Enhancing the National Identity through Historic Buildings Conservation using VR Technology
2011
The event organized by TOTAL, Indonesian Embassy in France, etc.; International audience; Indonesia comprises the most extraordinary collections of cultural heritage within various historical places. Those heritage sites in all over Indonesia longingly present its own spirit of place, genius loci, as perform on its unique artifacts, and the community's cultural resources. The legacy of Indonesian collective past such as the built environment, artifacts, shrines and temples, buildings and monuments, sites and districts from the village to the center city are some significant heritages that very important for our national identity. Unfortunately, many heritage objects have been neglected towa…
Comparison of immersive room and virtual reality, through the consumption episode "Eating a sandwich in a park"
2020
International audience; Conventional approaches for consumers’ tests, CLT and HUT, lead respectively to a high either internal or external validity. In recent years, several immersive approaches have been developed to achieve both internal and external validity at the same time, i.e. environments close to actual consumption context while keeping parameters under control. Virtual reality (VR) is one of the most promising one.In this study, we assess two immersive strategies in terms of internal and external validity for a consumption episode “having a sandwich for lunch in a park”. The two experimental conditions were an immersive room (N = 57, Fig. 1) and a VR environment (N = 55, Fig. 2). …
Comparison of sensory visual properties of food products in real and virtual conditions
2018
International audience; As Virtual Reality usages expand, as professional tools in one hand and as gaming devices in another hand, the use of these technologies for consumer science and sensory science is more and more interesting to be investigated. Before using Virtual Reality to evaluate new products, it seems necessary to check the similarities and differences of the visual attributes of products in real and in virtual. All the experiments were conducted with Unity software and HTC Vive Helmet. First, we designed virtual sensory booths, similar to the booths of AgroParisTech sensory Lab. Then, we choose a set of real products (cookies from the market) and digitalize them. At last, virtu…
