Toward Successfully Integrating Mini Learning Games into Social Virtual Reality Environments : Recommendations for Improving Open and Distance Learni…
2017
Social virtual reality environments, also known as 3D virtual immersive environments, are threedimensional computer-generated virtual spaces that are increasingly used in attendance-based and distance education. Thanks to their unique characteristics that separate them from two-dimensional virtual learning environments, social virtual reality environments can enhance distance education efficacy when used in combination with applying instructional methodologies such as situated learning, experiential learning and game-based learning. The authors of this paper describe the design and findings of a research study on game-based learning in social virtual immersive environments. The research met…
Surveying, Analysis and 3D Modeling in Archaeological Virtual Reconstruction. The inner colonnade of the naos of Temple G of Selinunte.
2012
This paper is focused on the virtual reconstruction of a portion of the naos of Temple G of Selinunte, as a case study for the definition of a method of virtual anastylosis and reconstruction of collapsed colonnades in archaeological contexts. Reconstruction is based on the combination of historical research, archaeological analysis, digital surveying, image-based modeling and laser scanning methods. The complexity of the ruins of the temple suggested a thorough archaeological analysis of the fragments of the inner colonnade of the naos. This analysis made it possible to identify reference surfaces and protective or sacrificial surfaces. The study of these surfaces, together with the dimens…
Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Gastroenterology: Time to Say Good-bye to All That Endoscopy?
2000
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been described as the most important development in medical diagnosis since the discovery of the roentgen ray more than 100 years ago. The effectiveness of MRI has been extended to make it applicable in a wide variety of gastrointestinal disorders. The attention of gastroenterologists is currently focusing on pancreaticobiliary and bowel diseases. Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) has become a competitive alternative to diagnostic endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography in a variety of hepatobiliary and pancreatic diseases. Magnetic resonance enteroscopy has the potential to become the preferable method for evaluating the entire s…
Supporting Mobile Virtual Team’s Coordination with SOA-Based Active Entities
2007
The use of IT solutions to support preparedness, response and recovery process has been envisioned as a possible way to improve the support for collaboration among the actors participating in mobile teams operating under constrained scenarios. Software applications supporting mobility have typically been conceived as functional extensions of centralized enterprise systems hosted on corporate servers. However, in this work, we focus on those mobile scenarios which go one step further in terms of interoperability requirements. This proposal aims to support the design, deployment and execution of ad-hoc collaborative business processes (workflows) in mobile networks, operating under constraine…
Entertainment virtual reality system for simulation of spaceflights over the surface of the planet Mars
2006
In recent years Virtual Reality technologies have enabled astronomers to recreate and explore three dimensional structures of the Universe for scientific purposes. Mars, due to its scientific interest, has been the focal point of numerous research projects using these technologies, however, none of these virtual reality tools have been developed specifically for entertainment purposes. The focus of this paper is to present MarsVR, as an entertainment research project that educates people on the topography and orography of the planet Mars from the perspective of popular science. Some projects have been designed MarsVR for entertainment purposes and include the latest advances in 3D real time a…
The New Era of Business Digitization through the Implementation of 5G Technology in Romania
2021
The main objective of the present research is to identify the advantages and benefits that the use and implementation of 5G technology has on the development and evolution of the Romanian business environment. The study is based on a theoretical documentation regarding existing information in the field and a descriptive analysis of the evolution of the technology in Romania and worldwide. The research method chosen is a survey based on an opinion poll (questionnaire) to find out the availability of economic entities regarding the implementation of 5G technologies, the foreseen expectations and those realized by the business environment regarding the effects of 5G technologies on the economi…

Mathematical modeling and parameters estimation of a car crash using data-based regressive model approach
2011
Author's version of an article in the journal: Applied Mathematical Modelling. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.apm.2011.04.024 n this paper we present the application of regressive models to simulation of car-to-pole impacts. Three models were investigated: RARMAX, ARMAX and AR. Their suitability to estimate physical system parameters as well as to reproduce car kinematics was examined. It was found out that they not only estimate the one quantity which was used for their creation (car acceleration) but also describe the car's acceleration, velocity and crush. A virtual experiment was performed to obtain another set of data for use in further research. An A…
CVS: Using VLANs to Counteract the Effect of Topology Changes in Quasi-Static Mesh Access Networks
2006
Mesh networks are candidate to play the role of switched Ethernet LANs over extended areas and with a sensibly higher flexibility. Actually, mesh networks can exploit both Ethernet and wireless technologies, e.g. Wi-Fi and/or free-space optical links, to provide a high degree of redundancy in an access network, and to provide users with powerful means to connect with each other. By using such technologies, the mesh topology remains stable for hours, so that the mesh topology can be considered quasi-static. However, large meshes require a heavy overhead in the network control plane as for the management of end-to-end paths, which can change due to mobility of users and due to occasional fail…
