Mobile agents, globus and resource discovery
2004
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses grid technology and some related problem. The overview of grids, in terms of application fields and needed protocols is given. The common feature of all grid architectures is a coordinated and controlled resource sharing between the members of a dynamic multi-institutional virtual community. The members of such a community agree on which resources will be shared and which members of the community will be enabled to access these resources, thus defining a set of sharing rules and permissions. The Globus project is discussed, which is nowadays the de facto standard for grid environments, with emphasis on its resource discovery components. Finally, the …

La comunicazione nel progetto di Architettura
2011
The effective communication of architectural design is one of the crucial steps required by the client public or private. Rendering as the starting point for the communication of architectural design, is the process of generating an image from a three-dimensional model interpreted by algorithms that define the color of each image point. From a smooth 3D model can be realized photorealistic images and real and virtual prototypes may also be obtained.
Musei e nuove tecnologie per allestire
2011
In recent years, the application of new technology has become more widespread in expanding areas. In the field of cultural heritage, this technology has brought important changes to traditional systems of protection, management and enhancement; there are new languages for communicating the different values of cultural heritage, contributing to a more extensive dissemination of culture assets. The application of new media in indoor museums is changing the way of presenting objects and communicating their meaning, and renders the visit more enjoyable, involving and exciting. However, the excessive use of these tools can become overwhelming when compared to the objects themselves, transforming t…
From the “Sacred Theatres” of Andrea Pozzo to the International Truncated Calotte: History and Representation of the Immacolatella Church’s Tribune i…
2022
The contribution, divided between history and representation, aims to analyse the design genesis and the sources used by the architect Giovanni Amico for the modernization of the Immacolatella church’s tribune in Trapani (since 1732). The church is devoid of studies and surveys with digital instrumentation but its unique compositional characteristics, which exploit the theme of the manipulation of space and light for scenographic and liturgical purposes, require in-depth analysis. The solution applied to the church tribune combines different compositional themes linked to the Roman design world and in particular by Andrea Pozzo in relation to the “sacred theatres” produced for the Jesuits a…
2009
This work is focused on procedures and methods for the production of photorealistic and geometrically correct 3D digital models. The investigation has been addressed to the wooden painted ceiling of the “Sala Magna” in the “Palazzo Steri” of Palermo. The building of the “Steri” starts in 1320 on behalf of Manfredi I Chiaramonte and continues with his heirs Manfredi II and Manfredi III, who built the second floor and provided the building with decorations. In 1601 the Holy Inquisition moved to the Steri and transformed it in a place of imprisonment and torture. The hall in the northern side of the first floor, named “Sala Magna”, was the main room of the building. The ceiling of the “Sala Ma…
