Contrast sensitivity after refractive lens exchange with a multifocal diffractive aspheric intraocular lens
2013
Purpose: To evaluate distance and near contrast sensitivity (CS) under photopic and mesopic conditions before and after refractive lens exchange (RLE) and implantation of the aspheric AcrySof ReSTOR (SN6AD3 model) intraocular lens (IOL) Methods: Sixty eyes of 30 consecutive patients after RLE underwent bilateral implantation with the aspheric AcrySof ReSTOR IOL. The patients sample was divided into myopic [n=15, mean spherical equivalent (SE) -6.87± 2.03 diopters (D)] and hyperopic (n=15, mean SE +4.52±1.14 D) groups. Monocular uncorrected visual acuity at distance and near (UCVA and UCNVA, respectively) and monocular best corrected visual acuity at distance and near (BCVA and BCNVA, respec…
Optic Nerve Decompression Improves Hemodynamic Parameters in Papilledema
1993
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine changes in color Doppler imaging parameters before and after optic nerve sheath decompression (ONSD) for chronic papilledema caused by pseudotumor cerebri (PTC). Methods: Color Doppler imaging was performed within 48 hours before surgery and within 48 hours after the procedure using a color Doppler unit with a 7.5-MHz phased linear transducer. Pulsed Doppler spectrum analyses were recorded digitally on videotape from the ophthalmic, central retinal, and short posterior ciliary arteries, using a 0.4 × 0.6-mm sample volume. Results: Blood flow velocities in the ophthalmic, short posterior ciliary, and central retinal arteries of 24 eyes were si…
Visual and optical performance with the ReZoom multifocal intraocular lens
2011
Purpose This study evaluated visual acuity, contrast sensitivity, and wavefront aberrations after refractive multifocal intraocular lens (IOL) implantation. Methods A prospective study comprising 174 eyes of 87 patients who had bilateral implantation of a multifocal IOL was carried out. A control group of 100 eyes of 50 age-matched patients with a monofocal IOL was used for comparison. Uncorrected and corrected distance and near visual acuity, contrast sensitivity (CS), and wavefront analysis (Hartmann-Shack) was performed 6 months after surgery. Contrast sensitivity was tested for distance and near under mesopic (2 cd/m2) and photopic conditions (90 cd/m2). Results Distance photopic CS was…
Prospective visual evaluation of apodized diffractive intraocular lenses
2006
To evaluate distance, intermediate, and near visual performance in patients who had multifocal apodized diffractive intraocular lens (IOL) implantation.Fernández-Vega Ophthalmological Institute, Oviedo, Spain. The best corrected distance visual acuity, best distance-corrected near visual acuity, intermediate visual acuity, distance contrast sensitivity under photopic and mesopic conditions, and patient satisfaction were measured in 325 patients and 335 patients who had bilateral implantation of the model SA60D3 IOL (AcrySof ReSTOR, Alcon) and model SN60D3 IOL (AcrySof Natural ReSTOR), respectively. At the 6-month postoperative visit, binocular best corrected distance acuity with the ReSTOR IO…
Refractive lens exchange with Acri.LISA bifocal intraocular lens implantation.
2011
PURPOSE To assess efficacy, safety, and predictability after refractive lens exchange (RLE) in patients who had bilateral implantation of an Acri.LISA 366D diffractive bifocal intraocular lens (IOL). METHODS Sixty-six eyes of 33 consecutive patients were examined after RLE who had bilateral implantation of an Acri.LISA bifocal 366D IOL. Eyes were divided into myopic and hyperopic groups. Monocular uncorrected distance visual acuity, best-corrected distance visual acuity (BCVA), uncorrected distance near visual acuity, and best distance-corrected near visual acuity (BCNVA) were recorded preoperatively and 6 months after surgery. RESULTS Efficacy indexes were 0.73 for myopic and 0.85 for hype…
Prospective study of the Acri.LISA bifocal intraocular lens
2007
To assess the visual results after bilateral implantation of the bifocal Acri.LISA 366D intraocular lens (IOL) (Acri.Tec AG).Fernández-Vega Ophthalmological Institute, Oviedo, Spain.Eighty-one patients had bilateral implantation of the distance-dominant bifocal Acri.LISA 366D IOL in a prospective study. Monocular and binocular best corrected distance visual acuity and best distance-corrected near visual acuity, binocular best distance-corrected intermediate visual acuity, and distance contrast sensitivity under photopic (85 cd/m(2)) and mesopic (5 cd/m(2)) conditions were determined. At the 3-month postoperative visit, the mean binocular best corrected distance acuity was 0.048 +/- 0.111 log…
Clear Lens Extraction with Multifocal Apodized Diffractive Intraocular Lens Implantation
2007
Purpose To assess efficacy, safety, predictability, and stability after clear lens extraction (CLE) with multifocal diffractive intraocular lens (IOL) implantation. Design Prospective, nonrandomized, masked observational case series (self-controlled). Participants Two hundred twenty-four eyes of 112 consecutive patients after CLE with bilateral AcrySof ReSTOR Natural IOL implantation. Eyes were divided into myopic (mean spherical equivalent [SE], −6.01±2.71 diopters [D]) and hyperopic (mean SE, +3.86±2.52 D) groups. Methods Monocular and binocular uncorrected distance visual acuity (VA), best-corrected distance VA, uncorrected distance near VA, and best distance-corrected near VA were recor…
Branch retinal vein occlusion associated with the 20210 G-to-A prothrombin variant.
2000
Purpose To describe a case of branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO) in a patient who tested positive for the 20210 A allele of the prothrombin (PT) gene. Methods A 48-year-old man had visual loss in the right eye secondary to BRVO confirmed by ophthalmoscopy and fluorescein angiography. His medical history was not remarkable for common risk factors for retinal occlusive diseases. Results Laboratory tests for hypercoagulability were positive for PT 20210 A variant. The patient's family tested negative for the PT variant. Conclusions Laboratory tests for coagulopathy, including the PT 20210 A variant, should be added to the examination of patients with central or BRVO, especially if most commo…
Retinal light sensitivity of the central visual field among 70- to 81-year-old men and women.
2009
Retinal light sensitivity of the central visual field (0-30 degrees), visual acuity, intraocular pressure and pupillary size were screened in 42 men and 42 women aged 70 to 81 years. The subjects were randomly selected from the population register. After excluding the diagnosed glaucoma cases, the men had better visual field light sensitivity values than the women. They also had lower intraocular pressure and a wider pupillary diameter than the women, whereas there were no differences in visual acuity between the sexes. When the effect of pupillary size was controlled the differences in visual field light sensitivity values between men and women became non-significant. Among these elderly p…
Sulcus implantation of a single-piece foldable acrylic intraocular lens after posterior capsular rupture in cataract surgery.
2012
Purpose. To evaluate the safety of a foldable acrylic single-piece intraocular lens (IOL) in cases of complicated cataract surgery and sulcus implantation. The setting was University and private anterior segment surgery practices. Methods. In this observational case series study, 13 eyes of 13 patients were included after complicated phacoemulsification with extensive posterior capsule rupture with or without vitreous loss. A foldable acrylic single-piece IOL (Rayner Superflex 620H; Rayner Intraocular Lenses Limited, Hove, East Sussex, UK) was implanted in the ciliary sulcus in each eye. Postoperative follow-up included best-corrected visual acuity, anterior segment biomicroscopy, IOL centr…
