Freud "rivisto". Nuove interpretazioni femministe dello sguardo

2022

Michele Cometa

2021

This essay is about Michele Cometa, essayist, literary and aesthetic critic and one of the founders of Italian Visual Culture ,both as a cultural approach and as an academic discipline (or, rather, un-discipline). He is responsible for the reception of W.J.T. Mitchell in Italy, having edited the first translations of his works (see, Pictorial Turn. Essays on Visual Culture, 2008, new edition 2017). He also organized the first meeting entirely devoted to the discipline in 2007, hosting the encounter between Mitchell’s Pictorial turn and Belting’s Iconic Turn and the different approaches they gave origin to in Italy.

From Image/Text to Biopicture: Key Concepts in W. J. T. Mitchell's Image Theory

2017

One of the most influential American journals, October, in 1996 submitted to an authoritative array of art historians and visual art scholars the famous “Visual Culture Questionnaire”. Though the answers showed some scepticism about the term “visual culture”, this issue can be considered the point of no return in the evolution of a field that has since had, especially in the United States, but also in Europe, considerable and well-established institutional effects, an increasingly transparent and self-conscious disciplinary statute as well as an appropriate number of canonical texts that define the “visual turn” in the humanities.

Preface

2017

The volume is devoted to images in painting, photography and cinema invented by literature. At the same time it intends to question, through this perspective, the relationship between text and image, between verbal and visual in modern and contemporary literature. The authors investigate the mutual boundaries between literature and arts from the point of view of aesthetics, visual culture and literary theory, trying to build a map of the notional ékphrasis, a description which constitutes the work of art while telling it.

The Challenge of Cave Art. On the Future of Visual Culture

2016

Does it make sense to consider cave art—the art of an ancient past—a challenge for vi- sual culture as an academic discipline and as a research field? It might seem an oxymoron, or rather a boutade, a paradox. Yet there are many reasons to believe that this dive into the past in the age of new media, of digital literacy, can show us a way to the future of our discipline and that it can give us new energy for research. It certainly helps us to answer some fundamental questions that contemporary visual culture has faced in recent years—mostly in connection with its stepmother, traditional art history—if only because cave art studies inevitably shifts the research focus from the issue of Art t…

Premessa a: Cultura visuale in Italia : immagini, sguardi, dispositivi

2022

Education on Sexual Diversity through Cinema

2014

Abstract Our proposal raises the urgency to include the defense of sexual diversity in the curriculum of Art Education. We provide visibility mechanisms to sexual minorities in personal and social order, and propose an approach to the subject, especially in training teachers. From aesthetic reflection we must foster a new critical look at Media Education. We should encourage future teachers to address these issues in their classes, appropriating the use and content of images. A topical issue such as the promotion of respect for sexual diversity has on films perfect ally. Suggest ideas about educational processes through a series of examples. From cinema and visual art can introduce reflecti…

Nordic contemporary art education and the environment: Constructing an epistemological platform for Art Education for Sustainable Development (AESD)

2012

How can art educators address questions of environmental sustainability, accepting to be ethically normative but avoiding becoming dogmatic? How can the complex ‘pool’ of knowledge generated in and through art education research become useful in working with these questions, which many of us find overwhelmingly difficult? AESD – Art Education for Sustainable Development – is a concept coined for this article with the intention of bringing environmental problems onto the agenda. In an attempt to provoke the necessary discussion about environmental sustainability in art education, the article examines selected texts from recent Nordic research in order to build an ‘epistemological platform’ t…

Understand the visual culture in the classrooms through the postmodern curriculum. ICT as mediators in the production process

2020
