A MIDI sequencer that widens access to the compositional possibilities of novel tunings
2012
We present a new Dynamic Tonality MIDI sequencer, Hex, that aims to make sequencing music in and across a large variety of novel tunings as straightforward as sequencing in twelve-tone equal temperament. It replaces the piano roll used in conventional MIDI sequencers with a two-dimensional lattice roll in order to enable the intuitive visualization and dynamic manipulation of tuning.\ud \ud In conventional piano roll sequencers, a piano keyboard is displayed on the left side of the window, and white and black note lanes extend horizontally to the right, into which a user can draw a sequence of notes. Similarly, in Hex, a button lattice is displayed in its own pane on the left side of the wi…
Profiling movement behaviours in pre-school children: A self-organised map approach.
2019
Application of machine learning techniques has the potential to yield unseen insights into movement and permits visualisation of complex behaviours and tangible profiles. The aim of this study was to identify profiles of relative motor competence (MC) and movement behaviours in pre-school children using novel analytics. One-hundred and twenty-five children (4.3 ± 0.5y, 1.04 ± 0.05 m, 17.8 ± 3.2 kg, BMI: 16.2 ± 1.9 kg
Effectiveness of anti-vascular endothelial growth factors in neovascular age-related macular degeneration and variables associated with visual acuity…
2021
Objective To assess the overall effectiveness of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) therapy in treatment-naïve patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) in a clinical practice setting. Study design EAGLE was a retrospective, 2-year, cohort observational, multicenter study conducted in Italy that analyzed secondary data of treatment-naïve patients with nAMD. The primary endpoint evaluated the mean annualized number of anti-VEGF injections at Years 1 and 2. The main secondary endpoints analyzed the mean change in visual acuity (VA) from baseline and variables associated with visual outcomes at Years 1 and 2. Results Of the 752 patients enrolled, 745 (99.07…
Preliminary evaluation of near-infrared vein visualization technology in the screening of palatal blood vessels.
2018
Background Avoidance from palatal blood vessel rupture is a major concern during the palatal soft tissue graft surgery. There is no defined chair-side and case-specific palatal blood vessel detection approach to facilitate the harvesting process. The objective of this pilot study is to assess the feasibility of a near-infrared vein visualization system in the screening process of palatal blood vessels. Material and Methods An extraoral vein visualization device (AccuVein AV400) was applied to a total of 304 hemi-maxilla of 152 individuals by two blind examiners. The study groups were classified according to their maximum inter-incisal measurements. The distances between the coronal border o…
Linguistic and spatial skills predict early arithmetic development via counting sequence knowledge
2013
Utilizing a longitudinal sample of Finnish children (ages 6-10), two studies examined how early linguistic (spoken vs. written) and spatial skills predict later development of arithmetic, and whether counting sequence knowledge mediates these associations. In Study 1 (N = 1,880), letter knowledge and spatial visualization, measured in kindergarten, predicted the level of arithmetic in first grade, and later growth through third grade. Study 2 (n = 378) further showed that these associations were mediated by counting sequence knowledge measured in first grade. These studies add to the literature by demonstrating the importance of written language for arithmetic development. The findings are …
The incidences and risk factors related to early dysphagia after anterior cervical spine surgery: A prospective study
2016
Dysphagia is a common complication following anterior cervical spine surgery (ACSS). The incidences of dysphagia were variable and controversial. The purpose of this study was to determine the incidence of early dysphagia after ACSS with a new scoring system, and to identify the risk factors of it. A prospective study was carried out and patients who underwent ACSS from March 2014 to August 2014 in our hospital were included in this study. A self-designed dysphagia questionnaire was delivered to all of the patients from the first day to the fifth day after ACSS. Perioperative characteristics of patients were recorded, and incidences and risk factors of dysphagia were analyzed. A total of 10…
Head-Mounted Mixed-Reality Technology During Robotic-Assisted Transanal Total Mesorectal Excision
2019
INTRODUCTION Head-mounted mixed-reality technologies may enable advanced intraoperative visualization during visceral surgery. In this technical note, we describe an innovative use of real-time mixed reality during robotic-assisted transanal total mesorectal excision. TECHNIQUE Video signals from the robotic console and video endoscopic transanal approach were displayed on a virtual monitor using a head-up display. The surgeon, assistant, and a surgical trainee used this technique during abdominal and transanal robotic-assisted total mesorectal excision. We evaluated the feasibility and usability of this approach with the use of validated scales. RESULTS The technical feasibility of the rea…
Anatomy online: presentation of a detailed WWW atlas of human gross anatomy--reference for medical education.
2002
We present an online anatomy atlas based on the Visible Human Project (VHP) of the US National Library of Medicine. The objective is to provide original unlabeled as well as labeled sections of the human body of high quality and resolution on the Internet, for use in basic and continuing medical education. For a representative overview of the body, 370 axial sections were selected from the male and female data base of the VHP with special regard to regions of clinical interest. Each section is accompanied by its corresponding computer tomography (CT) image and, if available, magnetic resonance images (MRI) for quick and easy comparison of morphologic and radiologic structures. The sections …
ProstateAnalyzer: web-based medical application for the management of prostate cancer using multiparametric MR imaging
2016
Objectives: In this paper, we present ProstateAnalyzer, a new web-based medical tool for prostate cancer diagnosis. ProstateAnalyzer allows the visualization and analysis of magnetic resonance images (MRI) in a single framework. Methods: ProstateAnalyzer recovers the data from a PACS server and displays all the associated MRI images in the same framework, usually consisting of 3D T2-weighted imaging for anatomy, dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI for perfusion, diffusion-weighted imaging in the form of an apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) map and MR Spectroscopy. ProstateAnalyzer allows annotating regions of interest in a sequence and propagates them to the others. Results: From a representat…
Identification of Risk Factors Associated with Obesity and Overweight-A Machine Learning Overview.
2020
Social determining factors such as the adverse influence of globalization, supermarket growth, fast unplanned urbanization, sedentary lifestyle, economy, and social position slowly develop behavioral risk factors in humans. Behavioral risk factors such as unhealthy habits, improper diet, and physical inactivity lead to physiological risks, and &ldquo
