Descriptive literature review of the added value of virtual realities in vocational education and training
2020
Tarkastelemme tässä katsaus artikkelissa virtuaalitodellisuusteknologian (VR) hyödyntämistä ammattikasvatuksen kentällä viimeisen kymmenen vuoden aikana. Tavoitteenamme on selvittää, minkälaista empiiristä tutkimusta aiheesta on tehty ja minkälaista lisäarvoa VR tuottaa ammattikasvatukselle 13 tutkimusartikkelin perusteella. Tulosten perusteella tutkimus VR:n hyödyntämisestä ammattikasvatuksessa on yhtäältä lisääntynyt, mutta toisaalta empiirisiä tuloksia on vielä suhteellisen vähän. Tutkimus on toistaiseksi keskittynyt käyttökokemuksiin erilaisia VR-sovelluksia hyödynnettäessä. Havaitsemamme lisäarvo liittyy erityisesti reaalimaailman rajoitusten ylittämiseen ja erilaisten oppimisprosessie…
APPROACHES TO IMPROVED INSTITUTIONAL MECHANISMS IN TRAINING LABOUR FORCE TO PROMOTE INNOVATION
2012
The paper deals with the approaches for satisfying the need for the training of modern labour force capable of implementing innovation. The focus of the research is the existing and potentially new institutional mechanisms for enhanced co-operation among the various key stakeholders. The authors’ assumption is that more co-operation between the higher education and research system on the one hand, and the vocational education system on the other hand, would have a beneficial influence on the overall labour force training at all levels to promote innovation. Therefore, the target group for the empirical study of the present research have been medium and high level public administrators in bo…

Establishing closer links between education, training and the world of work is a high level EU policy priority and increasing in the focus of academic research. Constant skills’ upgrading of the workforce to promote employability requires innovative approaches at national, regional and local level and demands new forms of strategic partnerships. The role of informal learning in adults' literacy proficiency

Education-related goal appraisals and self-esteem during the transition to secondary education: A longitudinal study
2010
This study investigated whether adolescents’ appraisals of their education-related goals change during the transition from comprehensive school to postcomprehensive secondary education (academic vs. vocational track) and how such appraisals contribute to their self-esteem. Six hundred and seven 16-year-old adolescents were surveyed three times: (1) at the beginning, (2) at the end of the final spring term of comprehensive school, and (3) one year after the transition to postcomprehensive secondary education. They were asked to appraise their education-related goal in terms of intrinsic and extrinsic reasons for goal striving, goal progress, effort, and stress. The results showed that, when …
Timing of parenthood in relation to other life transitions and adult social functioning
2009
The timing of having one's first child, in relation to the timing of other transitions into adulthood and to social functioning, was investigated based on the Finnish Jyväskylä Longitudinal Study of Personality and Social Development, conducted from age 8 (173 females and 196 males) to 42. Results showed that in women, relatively early (< 25 years) motherhood was associated with the early timing of all studied transitions (move from parental home, intimate relationship, education, full-time job); in men, early fatherhood was associated only with the early start of an intimate relationship. In women, but not in men, early parenthood was linked to a lower level of education, lower occupat…
European Action Programmes for Lifelong Learning
2009
Vocational education and training has been a part of the process of creating a European community since the 1950s. The European training programmes Erasmus and Comett were launched in the 1980s. After the Maastricht Treaty, agreed in 1992, such training programmes were expanded further at the same time as emphasizing their importance to the internationalization of education. With a view to promoting and intensifying educational co-operation, in 1995 the European Commission created two new educational programmes called Socrates and Leonardo da Vinci. Both are umbrella schemes that brought together previously separate action programmes in the field of education. Leonardo da Vinci has been a E…
