PCP-DV: An End-to end Admission Control Mechanism for IP Telephony
2001
In this paper we describe a novel endpoint admission control mechanism for IP telephony:the PCP-DV which is characterized by two fundamental features. First, it does not rely on any additional procedure in internal network routers other than the capability to apply different service priority to probing and data packets. Second, the triggering mechanism for the connection admission decision is based on the analysis of the delay variation statistics over the probing flow. Numerical results for an IP telephony traffic scenario prove that 99th delay percentiles not greater than few ms per router are guaranteed even in overload conditions.
QoS Based Routing Protocol for Intra-Mesh Infrastructure Communications
2015
International audience; Mesh Networks (WMNs) have been considered as a promising alternative to conventional wired networks, thanks to its flexibility and easy deployment. Thus, to ensure a satisfying level of QoS guarantees for real-time and streaming applications such as Voice over IP (VoIP) and Video on Demand (VoD), we propose a novel QoS based routing protocol for wireless mesh environments, called Hybrid QoS Mesh Routing (HQMR), jointly with a clustering algorithm to enhance scalability issues within the mesh infrastructure. HQMR is composed of two routing sub-protocols: a reactive routing sub-protocol for intra-infrastructure communications and a proactive QoS based multi-tree routin…
this is how we artistically visualise it.
2017
[EN] This study forms part of the project titled: “Aesthetic Quality Research of Three Valencian Schools”. Through it, one may perceive how the architecture, visual culture and daily aesthetics constitute a network that encompasses the conditions for a quality teaching`learning process. Therefore, the aesthetic experience is presented in a way to explore the daily school routine from an interactive perspective between one’s body and their environment. This research took place during 2016 at three schools located in Alicante (Spain). Those schools were chosen as being representative of diverse situations: a multicultural urban school a gypsy`ethnic background urban school and a transient`pop…
Inter-provider AAA and Billing of VoIP Users with Token-based Method
2007
With the increasing popularity of wireless LAN technology, providers of real-time voice over IP (VoIP) services, known as voice service providers (VSP), are asking for roaming solutions and AAA (Authentication, Authorization and Accounting) methods that allow users to use their services from any available public Internet access network. In this paper we propose an AAA and billing architecture that allows users of VSPs to have access to the Internet from wired and wireless access networks provided by both traditional carriers, such as 3G providers, and wireless local access network (WLAN) providers. We propose a token-based AAA method that allows users of VoIP services to have their VSPs as …
Transport service for session initiation protocol in SIP-T scenarios
2005
The traditional telephone service has undergone deep changes in the years concerning the techniques of commutation and signaling. Today, public switched telecom networks (PSTNs) and private integrated services networks (PINSs) are strongly directed to adopt IP-based backbone. If it is possible to transfer the voice on packet switching network, in such reliable way, using voice over IP (VoIP) techniques, there is not still a valid alternative to the signaling systems, reliable and unfailing, like signaling system n.7 (SST). Session initiation protocol (SIP) seems to be the best candidate. SIP is an application layer signaling protocol and the problem remains still opened for what it concerns…
Embryo of a Quantum Vocal Theory of Sound
2019
Concepts and formalism from acoustics are often used to exemplify quantum mechanics. Conversely, quantum mechanics could be used to achieve a new perspective on acoustics, as shown by Gabor studies. Here, we focus in particular on the study of human voice, considered as a probe to investigate the world of sounds. We present a theoretical framework that is based on observables of vocal production, and on some measurement apparati that can be used both for analysis and synthesis. In analogy to the description of spin states of a particle, the quantum-mechanical formalism is used to describe the relations between the fundamental states associated with phonetic labels such as phonation, turbule…
Investigating Proactive Search Support in Conversations
2018
Conversations among people involve solving disputes, building common ground, and reinforce mutual beliefs and assumptions. Conversations often require external information that can support these human activities. In this paper, we study how a spoken conversation can be supported by a proactive search agent that listens to the conversation, detects entities mentioned in the conversation, and proactively retrieves and presents information related to the conversation. A total of 24 participants (12 pairs) were involved in informal conversations, using either the proactive search agent or a control condition that did not support conversational analysis or proactive information retrieval. Data c…
Embedded Knowledge-based Speech Detectors for Real-Time Recognition Tasks
2006
Speech recognition has become common in many application domains, from dictation systems for professional practices to vocal user interfaces for people with disabilities or hands-free system control. However, so far the performance of automatic speech recognition (ASR) systems are comparable to human speech recognition (HSR) only under very strict working conditions, and in general much lower. Incorporating acoustic-phonetic knowledge into ASR design has been proven a viable approach to raise ASR accuracy. Manner of articulation attributes such as vowel, stop, fricative, approximant, nasal, and silence are examples of such knowledge. Neural networks have already been used successfully as de…
Adaptive voice interaction for 3D representation of Cultural Heritage site
2010
In the area of cultural heritage preservation and fruition the development of electronics and information technologies has opened new scenarios of research in the field of survey, representation and communication of Cultural Heritage. The aim is thus to make the fruition of works of art available to as many users as possible by using survey techniques and multimodal interaction. In this paper we propose a multimodal fruition of a virtual representation of a medieval ceiling, built in the XIV century, which covers the “Sala Magna” in the Steri of Palermo. The research deals with the design of an intelligent relational agent which interacts with the user in a natural way. To address this very…
