A new control system prototype for the energy production maximization of a unequally irradiated PV system
2011
This paper deals with the mismatch effect due to a unequally irradiation on a PV (PhotoVoltaic) system. The mismatch effect due to the partial shading of a PV module can be limited thanks to the installation of both bypass and block diodes. Unfortunately, this solution cannot fully solve the disvantages related to the mismatch effect. The Authors, in previous papers [1, 2], have theoretically demonstrated that the mismatch effect can be solved by changing the parallel/series connections of the modules of a PV system, taking into account each module radiating condition. This paper represents a first step of the experimental development of the above mentioned theoretical result. Specifically,…
Photoelectrocatalysis of paracetamol on Pd–ZnO/ N-doped carbon nanofibers electrode
2021
Abstract The presence of pharmaceuticals in water bodies has become a major concern in recent years. An efficient and innovative way of eliminating these pollutants is through photoelectrocatalytic (PEC) degradation owing to its environmental sustainability and its ability to remove recalcitrant pollutants. In this study, palladium loaded zinc oxide/carbon nanofibers (CZnO–Pd) were employed as a novel photoanode for PEC degradation of paracetamol. The CZnO–Pd composite was prepared through electrospinning and atomic layer deposition (ALD). The obtained materials were characterized. Photoelectrochemical studies were carried out with linear sweep voltammetry and chronoamperometry. The removal…
Trilateral π-conjugation extensions of phenothiazine-based dyes enhance the photovoltaic performance of the dye-sensitized solar cells
2016
Abstract Two novel organic dyes TLEP-1 and TLEP-2 based on phenothiazine with trilateral π-conjugation extensions were designed and synthesized for dye-sensitized solar cells, where phenothiazine ring was linked with two phenyl moieties at 7- and 10-positions as the first and second π-conjugation extensions, and with furan or thiophene ring at 3-position as the third π-conjugation extension for TLEP-1 and TLEP-2, respectively. The influence of the π-conjugation extensions on the photovoltaic performance was evaluated. The cell based on TLEP-2 exhibits an impressive short-circuit photocurrent density of 14.87 mA cm−2, which is much higher than the cell based on the reference dye without π-co…
The effect of thickness on the composition of passive films on a Ti–50Zr at% alloy
2006
Abstract Anodic films were grown potentiodynamically in different electrolytes (pH = 1–14) on a Ti–50Zr at% cast alloy, obtained by fusion in a voltaic arc under argon atmosphere. The thickness of the films was varied by changing formation potential from the open circuit potential up to about 9 V; growth was followed by 30 min stabilization at the forming potential. Films having different thicknesses were characterized by photocurrent spectroscopy (PCS) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Moreover, film composition was analyzed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Regardless of the anodizing conditions, passive films on the Ti–50Zr at% alloy consist of a single layer mix…
High-sensitive switchable photodetector based on BiFeO3 film with in-plane polarization
2015
A high-sensitive and fast-response photodetector based on BiFeO3 (BFO) ferroelectric thin film is fabricated using coplanar electrode configuration. A large photocurrent/dark current ratio is found up to two orders of magnitude at 1 V bias. Enhanced photocurrent and rectification behavior of the photodetector are observed after applying high voltage pulses to the BFO film. The short-circuit current varies systematically with the poling process and increases linearly with the light density. On the contrary, the open-circuit voltage keeps as a constant during the measurements. We attribute these behaviors to the depolarization field and the interfacial fields at the film-electrode interfaces.…
Impact of π-conjugation configurations on the photovoltaic performance of the quinoxaline-based organic dyes
2017
Abstract Three novel quinoxaline-based donor-π-acceptor type organic dyes were synthesized and explored as sensitizers in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The impacts of various π-conjugation configurations which contain different quinoxaline derivatives on the absorption properties, electrochemical properties and photovoltaic performances, as well as theoretical calculations have been investigated systematically. The photovoltaic performances of these dyes were found to be highly relevant to the π-conjugated configurations. In particular, the DSSC based on the dye with 2,3-dioctylquinoxaline as the spacer exhibited the highest efficiency of 8.20% with a short-circuit photocurrent densit…
Direct measurement of optical losses in plasmon-enhanced thin silicon films (Conference Presentation)
2018
Plasmon-enhanced absorption, often considered as a promising solution for efficient light trapping in thin film silicon solar cells, suffers from pronounced optical losses i.e. parasitic absorption, which do not contribute to the obtainable photocurrent. Direct measurements of such losses are therefore essential to optimize the design of plasmonic nanostructures and supporting layers. Importantly, contributions of useful and parasitic absorption cannot be measured separately with commonly used optical spectrophotometry. In this study we apply a novel strategy consisting in a combination of photocurrent and photothermal spectroscopic techniques to experimentally quantify the trade-off betwee…
Polymer Halide Perovskites-Waveguides Integrated in Nanocellulose as a Wearable Amplifier-Photodetector System
2018
Semiconductor organometallic halide (CH 3 NH 3 PbX 3 , X=Cl, Br, I) perovskites (MHP) have emerged as a very high promising material for optoelectronics. Their large absorption coefficients, high electronic mobilities, excellent quantum yield of emission at room temperature and tunable band-gap with the composition resulted in a new generation of photovoltaics and electronic devices. In this work, HPVK materials are successfully incorporated on a nanocellulose (NC) substrate with the intention to exploit the interesting properties of HPVK materials to construct wearable devices. In particular, a bilayer Poly(methyl methacrylate) /HPVK deposited on NC resulted in a suitable waveguide to demo…
Impact of the position isomer of the linkage in the double D–A branch-based organic dyes on the photovoltaic performance
2014
Abstract Three organic dyes with double D–A system were synthesized and applied in the dye-sensitized solar cells. These dyes contain phenothiazine as an electron donor and cyanoacetic acid as an acceptor/anchor. Linkages were incorporated at the ortho-, meta- and para-positions and their impact on the performance of photovoltaic was observed. Among them, the dye with a para-position linkage exhibited the highest short-circuit photocurrent density (12.26 mA cm−2) and open-circuit photovoltage (756 mV), leading to the best overall efficiency (6.14%) due to better light harvesting capacity under standard global 1.5 AM conditions. Under similar measuring conditions the dyes with ortho and meta…
Electro- and photo-electrooxidation of 2,4,5-trichlorophenoxiacetic acid (2,4,5-T) in aqueous media with PbO2, Sb-doped SnO2, BDD and TiO2-NTs anodes…
2020
Abstract In this work, the 2,4,5-T degradation in aqueous media was studied by electro- (EC) and photoelectrochemical (PEC) oxidation methods, which are two of the most important advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) for wastewater treatment. Both EC and PEC experiments were carried out in a single compartment cell under galvanostatic conditions (30 mA cm−2) at 298 K by using 0.05 M Na2SO4 + 200 ppm 2,4,5-T at pH 3 and pH 9, as model solutions. EC oxidation was performed using Sb-doped SnO2, PbO2 and boron doped diamond (BDD) as anodic materials. Besides these anodes, TiO2 in a nanotubular structure (TiO2 NTs) with or without PbO2 dispersed nanoparticles (TiO2::PbO2) were also used for PEC ox…
