Electrical characterization of low power CIGSSe photovoltaic modules

2015

This paper presents the electrical characterization of low power CIGSSe photovoltaic (PV) modules. Such investigation is achieved to perform a comparison of their performances with conventional silicon PV modules. For this purpose, a test bench, suitable for the characterization of both traditional and innovative low power modules, has been set-up and experimental results are accurately described and discussed.

On PD mechanisms at high temperature in voids included in an epoxy resin

2001

In this paper the effects of temperature on partial discharge (PD) activity taking place inside a spherical void in epoxy resin system are studied. Indeed, some experimental tests previously performed on specimens, having different void shapes, under multi-stress condition of temperature and voltage, have shown very different PD amplitude distributions at temperatures higher than ambient. However, this phenomenon cannot be explained only by taking into account the different thermobaric conditions of the enclosed gas. In consequence of the general physical inaccessibility of such voids, a study is here performed using a numerical model based on an evolutionary optimization algorithm. This is…

A novel approach for parameters determination in four lumped PV parametric model with operative range evaluations

2013

The paper presents a novel numerical approach for the parameters determination of crystalline silicon PV models four lumped parameters equivalent circuit. The novel approach basically deals with a new method, alternative to the iterative one known in literature, to calculate the series resistance. Particularly, it allows the evaluation of the lumped parameters on the basis of the manufacturer’s datasheet. The new approach has been validated both in the Maximum Power Point (MPP) and close to it by comparing values and curves obtained by means of the model implementation in Matlab/Simulink environment with those related to some five parameters models and manufacturer curves. Results show that…

Assessing the Economic Benefit due to BESS Management in a Renewable Energy Community of a Small Island

2022

The paper presents a study carried out on the island of Pantelleria regarding the interaction among distributed energy resource and energy storage systems in renewable energy communities. EU, in the Clean Energy Package, defines the 'Jointly acting renewables self-consumers' (JARSCs) and the 'Renewable Energy Communities' (RECs) as innovative models to share energy from renewables facilities. Nevertheless, the behaviour of JARSCs and RECs is designed to maximize the final users' self-consumption without considering the impacts on the power grid operation. A comparison of various operational strategies of BESS and an investigation of their effect on the distribution network are key elements …

Safety Concerns on Ground Fault Application Transfer Phenomenon in HV Installations

2007

When a fault to ground occurs in HV/MV substations supplied by a combined overhead-cable line, most of the fault current can be transferred and injected into the soil several kilometers far away from the fault location. This phenomenon is called "fault application transfer" and mostly concerns transition stations, where cables are connected to the overhead line. If the transition station is a dead-end steel pole structure, usually accessible to the general public, the local ground electrode could be inadequate to maintain ground potential rise within safety limits. Hence, dangerous touch and step voltages may appear at exposed locations. In the paper results of various computer simulations …

The evolution of the FIT mechanism in Italy for PV systems: a critical analysis

2013

The paper presents an analysis of the Feed'in Tariffs (FIT) mechanism development in Italy from 2005 to 2013 and named “Conto Energia”. In particular the work examines the five editions of the “Conto Energia”, highlighting both advantages and critical issues for the PV market development in Italy; this analysis is particular interesting due to the fact that the cap on FITs in Italy has been reached in June 2013.

Inseguitori solari: diverse tipologie e analisi tecnico-economica

2008
